  1. This and another related topic have raised a question or two in my head that I can't find answered in the wiki. I suspect I already know it, or at least I've always assumed it: Does a user-defined function execute fully (to the return) before an event which has occurred after the function execution began? I have always assumed it does. I assume (again that fallacy) that if a change of state occurs within a user-defined function the remainder of the function is scrapped, and when the new state returns to the state in which that user function was being called, it resumes at state_entry and does not pick up in the user function?
  2. Is it a nod to the Sims, to try and persuade gullible males to look at it through a telescope?
  3. Might even have a noob on it with a rampant instrument asking "U 4 xxx?"
  4. If it's Gor, you might need three moons. The only way to tell them apart might be by getting the rotations of them.
  5. Before pressing the nuke button to wipe out cache, have you used the area search to see if it went to 0,0,0 or up to 4000 metres for some reason? Also, have you tried turning ALM off?
  6. Have you tried lowering the network bandwidth and seeing if that makes any changes?
  7. So as well as ghosting, we've now got Cheshire-catting.
  8. I've seen this, often if you right-click on where you know parts of them are they'll pop back into view. I've also had success by TP-ing away and then back again, or logging out and back in again. Additionally, if the region is running a bit slow, just-rezzed items can take quite a while to appear (posted on this in another thread before Christmas) the workaround is to turn off Advanced Lighting mode and then they'll be there. Try one, some or all of the above
  9. ( deleted, this silly old duffer was confusing server restarts with region restarts) It would help a great deal if there was a definite set of figures to associate with a good, struggling or dead-as-a-parrot region when shifting to a different platform. It would also help if there was more up-to-date information about some of the newer metrics available in the statistics pane, for example the pinned and low LOD measurements, or what the relationship between some of the times means.
  10. It took me a few minutes to work out who said bug-splatter was At least we now know they push their own button
  11. Communication? Yes, except when there's party-goers with multi-line chat gestures However, because we haven't signed Non-disclosure-agreements (and a few other reasons), there is a definite limit to what answers can be given, which can be a bit frustrating at times.
  12. Snap. It's making me wonder if there's actually any point in complaining at the server user group meetings, if they're on a course that can't be altered.
  13. I went there to see if there was anything happening. Still loads of Christmas Tree and decorative stuff. Interesting thing is that it's lag monitor showed it was restarted 13 days ago. The other thing is, complaining loudly might not be the best strategy. It's done there enough times, and somewhere in amongst the din of gestures last meeting I saw some people trying to complain about sim crossings, but I don't know whether it was possible for their complaint to be dealt with there. I had to flee before the fans blew up in my PC. Complaining is only really effective when there is either an SLA to which the other party can be held to, or a viable alternative to which the aggrieved parties can walk away to if they don't get serious consideration. I'm not sure what we, as users, are actually entitled to.
  14. try amending the line to "if( perm & PERMISSION_TRIGGER_ANIMATION)" secondly, what is this script inside? A worn attachment? Or a prim external to your avatar?
  15. Just heard from a friend who's mainland place was down for nearly a day, it struck me that I've only heard of mainland regions failing, were any homesteads or private islands also affected?
  16. We could go there anyway and sort out a Bandobast.
  17. Yes, and I want to be able to turn it up to 11 sometimes
  18. Although I have a pair of balls, neither of them are crystal enough to validate that prediction:) It might be better perhaps to remind them that many of the creations rely on scripts to actually make them operate? Seriously though, looking at the S-word, that's taken years to get to where it is, Hi-Fidelity has just scaled down their ambition, any new act is going to have to spend years getting it right, and even then, they might get it wrong, it has happened.
  19. Yes, and we want photos of the scalpels slicing flesh, not tales of meeroos making squelching noises. But, as users, we're lower down the food chain than the creators, so are we really going to get taken seriously? I quite agree (though I thought BoM was done by the bake server not by the region server?) It might be, however, that some of these problems will be easier to fix when on the cloud, on better hardware, and so there could be a plan to defer some of the problems until such time as the hardware change cures them?
  20. Actually... you can (have two animations playing at the same time). You can have one animation making the arms and head perform some actions, and then you can start a second animation playing that works on the legs. Providing the two animations don't try and change positions of the same bones there won't be any contention. If you are using Qavimator, just make sure that the parts of the skeleton that are to be worked by the second animation are not assigned any rotations or translations from the default. ETA just read Rolig's post more carefully and I'm just re-iterating what she said after saying "you won't" Must read before posting in future.
  21. This is always the weak point in black-box testing, unpredictable results tend to promote wild or exaggerated theories amongst the testers and can even lead to them going out on a limb in trying to further research these hypotheses.. Strangely though, the parcels I keep an eye on have never been better or steadier these past two weeks. I feel guilty now after reading what other people have been suffering. If there is a server user group meeting tomorrow (and not a New Year's Eve party) we might get some information.
  22. Yes, a bit messy, I do far prefer the Singularity object area search though, you can at least beacon individual things. There is also a scripts info window on the about land parcel info that does give the vector to individual scripted object that is handy. From my recollection, it was Radegast first introduced the area search.
  23. Muy Bhad, I've been using it to track down things that got away from me when editing, I wondered why it was selective about what it located
