The consequences of unfriending?
JohnMiddlefield replied to chrisbreitling's topic in Second Life Viewer
chrisbreitling wrote: Thanks for the clarification, coming from the software development area I would say that is a flaw in the implementation. There must be consistency across the system. I agree. If one mutes/derenders another avi, that avi so muted/derendered should not be able to view anything about the avi who muted/derendered them. -
The consequences of unfriending?
JohnMiddlefield replied to chrisbreitling's topic in Second Life Viewer
chrisbreitling wrote: I am not quick at accepting friend requests in SL but since SL is what it is you never know who is behind that avatar. So, if I have accepted a friend request and later on I decide (as in RL) that that friendship is over -yes it happens-, I can "unfriend" the avatar in the SL viewer. My question is... once you unfriend somebody, can they still see stuff from you such as your profile details (which?), online status, etc.? Would be nice if the SL system offered a finer control of which parts of your profile you want to make public, private or only visible to your friends only. I think users have the right to some privacy in their SL as well. If you want your profile details to be viewed by the public in general, then when you unfriend someone, they will still be able to see your profile details. An unfriended avi can also view your online status, but just not as easily as before when they were on your friendship list. As for Linden Lab creating a more sophisticated system for privacy settings, which I am sure many would want, it seems more concerned about giving SL residents things like pathfinding so people can create objects given to artificial intelligence of which I am not too sure many want, but it will be the griefers' delight for sure. -
Catherine Deerhunter wrote: What is the best height and width to make walls and floors? That question is hard to answer, since we know not the context. But if you are referring to building a house, the overall predetermined dimensions of the house determines the width of the walls. As for the height of walls for a house, for camera viewing purposes, anything over 5 metres is good. If you mean thickness of walls and floors, I find 0.2 metres is good for houses.

Aiden Rives wrote: Most people on SL are just odd. They don't talk like people irl and have very erratic behaviour. It just seem like a lot of people on SL have personality problems, rage issues or are depressed. Generally mentally unstable people you know. Do you notice it? I think people who don't notice it are one of those mental people themselves, birds of a feather flock together huh? I've seen and met some good, logical people on SL but the majority just seem mentally unstable. What do you think? Oh yes, most definitely. They usually post topics like this just to avoid suspicion they they are totally bonkers.

Amethyst Jetaime wrote: After sending tickets, talking to live chat and contacting land owners, there really isn't anything that I can think of for you to do. It is not up to LL to remove items from private property there, as there is no covenant on most of the mainland, and if a parcel is privately owned the owner can choose to do as they please with their property. LL has no way of knowing what the landowner chooses to tolerate. I am afraid your 'stuck' with these objects. Mute and derender is my advice. This is one of the main reasons so many people, including myself, choose to live on or own private estates where a covenant protects you from this sort of thing and estate owners can return nuisances like this. No covenant land has its place, but LL would do well, in my opinion, to have a broadly liberal convenant on most mainland that would allow them to respond to situations like this, as it would increase the desirability of mainland and perhaps there would not be so much abandoned land there.. I think they don't mainly because it would be up to LL to deal with violation issues and they just don't have the staff for it. I agree, and Linden Lab does have a very strict covenant governing mainland continents hosting Linden Homes.

She's dicovered loneliness after years of spendid couple and friends relationships. Wait, no drama queen here, just wondering: how long has it been too long? How do you know it's about time to end a SL life? Please share if you can because I am at loss. Really don't know what to do. Delete button is so tempting sometimes. Cancel the main account, and promote the alt to main. It is the right thing to do, and know it in your heart.

Why can some people teleport and others can't?
JohnMiddlefield replied to Jo Yardley's topic in General Discussion Forum
Jo Yardley wrote: Thanks, I'll look into that. In our sim it is pretty important that people arrive at the entrance so they understand the rules and don't get banned for using an old LM they found somewhere and find themselves in the middle of our sim without knowing where they are and what is expected of them. Yes, I see your problem with the old LMs if things have changed. There would be no resolution for this problem with my suggestions. However, I guess one has to ask themselves, how often this would occur in that someone uses an old LM. BTW, I think I remember visiting your sim a while ago. It was very nicely done. -

Jo Yardley wrote: But won't that allow anyone to teleport anywhere? Make landmarks and teleport right there? I don't want every visitor to be able to do that, just the people who live here. You can configure the Land Menu also that only those in the groups can make LMs on the land, but others can not. Thus, those in the groups will have the flexibility to LM anywhere. If that is what you want. I have found that when you hardcore the entry point LM for the sim in the Land Menu, you run upon more problems than benefits. -

I'm STILL receiving notifications at the top right when someone posts a message in group chat. Am I doing something wrong? How do I get rid of group chat without leaving a group? You are doing nothing wrong. What you would like, has been requested time and time again FOR YEARS! It is something either LL can not do, or LL doesn't care to do. It matters little what the reason is, it is simply a no go, and something one has to live with, and being annoyed by.

Region down for the 14th Time in 10 days

LL rarely reads these forums. Unfortunately, my experience has been that LL seldom pays attention to responses to their own questionnaires either. I gave up my premium account some time ago, and expressed my frustration at the time. Since then, I've observed absolutely zero evidence that LL even read my words. Shrugging my shoulders now, I guess it doesn't matter. If they don't care, then I don't either. It is what it is, and all we can do is watch the flames grow higher, and consume all that once was. (Edited to correct spelling.) Yes, I doubt very much LL takes into account anything anyone would put onto the questionnaire. I am sure Mr. Humble is wondering why there is a declining concurrency, declining estate regions, and windswept Mainland continents; but Mr. Humble is not able to open his eyes, as he listens to the programmers, who are really running the show, as they put more bells here, and more whistles there, but everything keeps declining regardless. Why listen to those who are leaving? They are leaving, are they not, so they don't matter anyone more? -

LL, I do not know what all your doing to try and fix this but I have all but made my decision to close my premium account and move to another virtual world. This has gone beyond ridiculous. This is not a viewer issue, Its not my operating system and it not my cache or cookies. . Its your system/ data base/ server!! I am not the only one with region issues I know. I have seen, heard and read about others. There are people who can not even log into SL now. Please tell us how what your doing is supposed to be better? I'm would like to find a nice suburban community to live in. For now I would be moving in by myself but im looking for a place that has a lot of families because that is something I would like to do someday. One of the biggest things I am looking for is a busy and active community of neighbors and a real suburban neighborhood feeling. If anyone has any suggestions for me where to look I would really be thankful! If you do a search for Giano Estates, you will find more or less what you are looking for. There is another one that was rather good too, but I am having problems finding it right now. I will get back later and let you know, providing I can find the other one.

They think that the product has the right permissions, but it doesn't because the seller does not know any better. I have come across several sellers like this - just not knowing how to set the permissions correctly. When I approached these sellters after buying their product, they were usuallly quite congenial and we worked together trying to sort the problem. However, the last time I did this, even though the seller worked hard at trying to get the permissions right, they just couldn't do it. So we left it at that. Sometimes setting permissions on a product that is made out of multiple prims, can be complicated. However, in your case, the problem is not complicated. If this seller you have dealt with begins to receive similar complaints from other purchasers, they just might clue into the fact that they need to revisit the permissions setting. I doubt very much they understand that is it is their fault. I wish that was the case. I wrote her and explained to her that no transfer sculpt cant be applied to prim, but only recieved a nasty reply from and her and her alt. She knows the permissions are set to NO MODIFY/NO TRANSFER and even used her alt to belittle me in the review discussion. The whole thing stinks and it's partly why im a littlle worked up about it. The fact that i didnt get what i paid for then was rudely shrugged off when i asked for full perm sculpt maps. I'm suspecting the maps are not what is pictured. As far as i know the maps are of the default apple. Well, that is so unfortunate. I know that false advertising is actually a serious offence in my country, but I guess it is not in the US, otherwise LL would have to do something about it. For surely they would not want to be an accomplice to a serious offence.

sunshine Juneberry wrote: I bought a boot builders kit on Marketplace. The Perms were shown to be FULL PERM. The seller clearly stated the sculpt maps were full perm and not to be given out or sold. However when i received the sculpt maps, they were NO TRANSFER/NO MODIFY. I dont mind being no modify, but as NO TRANSFER i cannot even apply them to a sculpt prim. It will not allow me to drop the sculpt map into the sculpt window. The seller insists she did nothing nothing wrong listing the item as full perm and that the sculpt maps can be used as NO TRANSFER. but they cant!!! What really gets me though is LL's response is that this is between me and the seller. They said i can write a review of the product, but all the seller has to do is remove the listing and then relist it and there wont be any bad review. The seller can go on scamming and i'm out 1000 L$. I've reopened my case like 3 times and i get the same response, LL does not get involved in L$ disputes between sellers and buyers and that i have to continue to try to contact seller. All the seller has to do is mute me and its problem solved...and i;m out 1000 L$ and not a thing I can do about it. It's ridiculous!! Someone can blatantly scam on MP. They dont need any real product, dont need to use their real name, they can scam away anonymously with no overhead, no oversight, no real product, and no consequences. This could be the case that the seller does not know how to set the permissions correctly, and did not bother to test the permissions themselves with an alt account before putting it up for sale. Unable to connect to grid after multiple attempts
JohnMiddlefield replied to Iryce's topic in Second Life Server
Iryce wrote: Thank you Wendi and John. the funny thing is it started at home first and now Im at work and still same problem. Im on a laptop does that make a difference with the modem and router? If you have tried it at two different locations, and you are getting the same result, that probably narrows it down to either your computer or your account. So try the last two items I suggested: - log into a different region, eg., Smith - if that doesn't work, then create another account and see how that goes. -

Iryce wrote: I have restarted, updated and configured everything so many times and still get the same error message that it cannot connect to grid. I was able to log in on Wednesday with no issues but for the past two days have the same error occuring even after switching viewers. Can anyone help? or is my second life journey come to an end? Thanks in advance! Make sure your Internet connection is working - but I assume you have done this already. Although, rebooting your router and/or modem might be a good thing to try anyway. Try to log into a different region than where you left off - Smith is a good region to try. If these do not work, try creating a new account as a last resort. -

No, but this does not preclude creativity on the part of the offended. What amazes me in the scenario you gave, though, is that the land owner even bothered to look to see if its renters were going to renew or not. Usually this kind of data is ignored by land owners. oh gosh...with one sweeping statement you tar ALL landowners with that? Most responsible landowners / landlords..regulary check their rental boxes to see whats happening...whos renewing..who is in arears (YES arrears...some of us dreadful landlords give a grace period) Gee whiz, I qualified my statement with "usually". That has been my experience. When I was a landowner, I checked things out very carefully, and sometimes gave people a week's grace period. Now I am not a landowner - i wonder why.

I think I know the one you bought too, and you paid about 526 USD for it. You can not have estate ownership rights, you can not raise or lower the land by more than 4 metres when you terraform, and you own only the land. When you sell off a parcel, your mainland holdings in land is reduced and the new owner really owns the parcel - not you any more. Welcome to the Mainland - now you know why tier is cheaper there than on the estate sims, because you get what you pay for.
-
Malestorm wrote: Hi - I just bought a mainland full estate. After the purchase, the parcel for the full region shows me as the owner. But.. when I look at the Region / Estate informatoin, it show the estate owner as noone. How do I transfer this into my name so that I can get estate powers? Many thanks With mainland regions, you can not get estate powers. Linden Lab is the estate owner for all mainland regions, and they will not give their estate ownership up. You should have checked this out before buying the region, and checked out the difference between mainland land and estate land. Sorry that this comes as a surprise to you.
