  1. I've notice that it's now possible to tie your SL account to your Facebook account (which I haven't done yet, but may eventually). I'm going on the assumption that the feed on my profile will then be posted to my feed on Facebook. When I post directly on Facebook, though, I have the option to either post under my account, or post as the owner of a page I've created. That way it posts to the feed of people who have "liked" my page. The question is, is there anyway to have my SL profile feed post from a page rather than from my regular Facebook account? This way, if I have a shop or venue of some sort that my avatar is running, and create a page for that venue on Facebook, I'd like my feed to post for that page rather than for me personally. Does this make sense? Does anyone know if that's possible.

    Mesh Vs Sculptie

Actually, although we do not have access to all the sliders, many of the sliders that have to do with changing body part lengths, in the viewer, will also affect a rigged mesh. Now, imagine if SL supported all of the body shaping morphs in the viewer on a mesh avatar. You'd basically have as much variety as you can have with the default SL avatar but for mesh also. That is pretty dang impressive for any game engine. Let's hope LL works on that.:smileywink: yes, I hadn't thought of that, and I'm hoping that works as well. What I was referring to though, for example, I don't like the feet that come with the kani avi, so I detached them. I didn't like the default eyes, so made my own, etc etc. A mesh avatar will be one piece. Granted, this avatar was well designed from the start, and I'm just going to assume that there will be smart and talented mesh designers out there as well :matte-motes-big-grin:

    Mesh Vs Sculptie

Moo Spyker wrote: I agree with that but LL seems to have other things to say. In a test I linked a mesh with a sculpted linkset and the sculpties were then treated as if they were mesh in terms of PE counts and increased the prim count significiantly... *very* useful bit of information to have, thank you.

    Mesh Vs Sculptie

I really don't think mesh will make sculpties obsolete, any more than sculpties made prims obsolete. each has strengths and weaknesses. It's down to prims vs detail vs skill, and using the strengths of each. I still use the kani avatar, which is made entirely of prims, and still looks better than most of the avatars made from sculpties. In fact that's one of the strengths of the kani avi; the individual parts can be modded. This won't be the case with mesh avatars.
  5. The more I mess around with the new profile, the more I like it. You can shut off the feed in the settings panel so people don't see it, and, more importantly, can't post to it. Like any new system it has a few quirks that need worked out, but I hope LL keeps this feature in. *ducks behind a prim to hide from the thrown vegetables*
  6. I had to have a look at the new profiles to see what it was all about. I like the new layout, although I agree the feed should not be the first thing you see. I'm wondering, though, why I get an "Add Friend" button for someone who is already in my friends list.
  7. I agree it would be nice to have some way to keep up with certain designers. Currently I just hope they have an update group and join that. But it would also be nice to have a better way to find those "hidden gems". Some of my favorite designers I stumbled on by complete accident in some odd corner of SL, and found that they've been there for years.

  9. as others have said, do tutorials......lots of tutorials. Also keep in mind that your first two dozen or so outfits are going to suck. It's just a fact, make them and get them out of the way. Don't start with full outfits, start with something simple, like t-shirts. Make lots of t-shirts, then move on to pants or what ever, get some experience under your belt that you can draw on later. Learn your tools. whether you're using photoshop or gimp, learn how the tool works. Do some tutorials that aren't specifically SL related. Learn to be self critical. When you create an outfit, ask yourself if you would buy this if you saw it in a shop. If the answer is no, make it better. Check out the top designers in SL. Look at what they've done. Try to see how they solved the problems you'll likely face. Don't try to copy their style, but try to copy their techniques. Stick with it. Don't give up after a failure. Some of my best products are the result of a string of failures. Good luck, I look forward to see your future creations :matte-motes-big-grin:
  10. this may be a dumb question, but how do I get to the mesh sandboxes? I did the tutorial and have pay info and everything looks ok there, but I still can't get into the sandboxes. Is there anything else I have to do?
  11. You can do pretty much the same work in GIMP that you can in Photoshop....in the same way that you can tighten screws with a butter knife. Photoshop is the better choice, and, as you have noted, the more expensive. But GIMP is a pretty advanced program itself. Also consider that the majority of professionals use Photoshop, so if you have questions you're not going to get a lot of professionals helping you if you're using GIMP. The best advice I could give though, is simply pick one, learn it, and live with that decision. You'll produce a lot higher quality work with just GIMP, than you would trying to learn both.
  12. well this turned into a lively conversation, and an interesting read :matte-motes-big-grin: Thank you, everyone, for your input. I went ahead and added the animations this morning, and I'll just be ready to yank the bed out if there are any problems.
  13. I've been to a lot of furniture stores on moderate land that have sex beds out on display. A couple of these are even featured in the showcase. I was wondering if anyone knows the official policy on this. I have a bed I made that I would like to include sex animations in, but my shop is on moderate land, so I currently only have a few cuddle animations in it and made it modable, but I know people are looking for beds with a full set of animations in them. I'm not really interested in what shop owners are getting away with, I'd like to know what the official policy is. If anyone knows, or could point me in the right direction to find out, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
