1. I don't see any parameter in the LSL documentation under prim_point_light, to assign the light as a spotlight, nor the ability to set its spotlight texture. Am I missing something? Never noticed until now that I would like to use some scripting to change these features. Or can this only be set on the prim/mesh on rez and use inworld? Thanks.
 2. How about the neighbour who puts up a 100m wall with a palm tree texture on it? That's always nice to look at instead of a blue sky.

Less then a few minutes they gave me $L? I didn't do anything I was just chatting with them. I couldn't clicked accept, it just went straight into my SL account. Is this normal? Is it safe? Thanks Stacy 1) Don't worry about it 2) Say thanks.

So, do you think it is worth pursuing? Did I blow it? Does she think I'm ugly? What should I do next? All advice welcomed (PS- I know its not strictly SL-related but thought everyone could do with a break from ban lines threads? ) (PPS- if you want to mock me that's fine, I expect it. I am hopeless with this) It's most likely her. She's either shy or the conversation went a bit too personal too fast, and she is self-conscious, or it's a man who let the joke go a bit too far. Maybe she thinks you're ugly.. who knows. Who cares. Maybe she's ugly. Most participants in SL present an avatar of themselves that they probably are not in RL, so who knows. I find most people in SL 1) antisocial 2) awkward if not antisocial 3) flakey 4) full-blown liars In other words, don't sweat one person, go meet others if you are inclined.

JohnyGlide wrote:

Frist since SL is 90% male. you sure this is a girl? and all I can think of is, be confident and go talk to her!

Citation needed. I only need to look at the Marketplace and what sells more than anything else - and the more accurate conclusion is to say the majority of customers (and therefore SL participants) are very female.

 5. Kate Amdahl wrote: In another discussion, Vanilla Sunsets said this: "Back when SL started the residents wanted their world to be as different for RL as it could be. Remember we all had fantastic pink and purple prim hair...? We created things that were literally out of this world (all we had were basic prims). The possibilities were endless! Today we want SL to be a very realistic world, as much as RL as it can be." What do you think about that? Have we gotten more realistic? If so, why? Were the early days of Second Life populated more by cutitng-edge experimental people? Or did we always want as much realism as possible and are just grabbing it as technologies like Windlight and mesh and so on made it more possible? The Lindens always seem to have imagined that Second Life was for wild experimentation with reality, but most resis I meet -- including me! -- seem more interested in mostly-realistic experiences: houses and beaches, surfing, sailing, vehicles, dance clubs, beautiful clothes, flirting, socializing, sex, conversation, and all the rest. Many of our houses have bathrooms and kitchens, for instance, which are not really useful in Second Life except for role play and to provide a little variety in our environments. Yes, the majority of remaining residents seem to want to replicate RL in real life, from the furniture and houses and clothes and decor they purchase, along with all the annoying taxes, fees, levies, cover charges, and mostly rules from RL as well. I would suspect that it is is just easier for mesh creators to model from RL reference, and upload it into SL, because it's what people want - and their sales reflect that. So instead of coming up with innovative designs, from concept to uploading, they play it safe and just stick to that. It's always been that way though, popular art sells to the masses - 'popular' being quite subjective, because what people like and what people 'own' (that gains them status in their peer's eyes), are largely crammed down their throat and their brains washed by aggressive marketing. For myself, I may model items from real life for practice, and to learn and hone skills from completing the challenges, but the process is very boring to me. I'm more excited about sketching or concepting an original piece, modeling and texturing and scripting it, then basically 3D-tracing an existing RL item. Sometimes I'm not up to the task, since originality requires a higher set of skills in things from handpainting, texturing and advanced modeling, lighting and materials but I'll get there. Each to their own though, but yes, the focus on realism and importing RL attitudes into SL are certainly more popular than they were 10 years ago. I also find SL much more antisocial than 10 years ago to, with the frequency of bans and kicks quite high. I guess people don't like a tiny Meerkat in a tophat and tie sitting down on their patio furniture and smoking a cigar - that's just too much griefing to take. Let's report him and cry to LL for changes to keep such atrocious behaviour out of SL. VanillaSunsets wrote: I am also very curious as I toyed with the idea of the parallels between SL and RL, human behaviour and what ppl do when they can build a "reality". What do ppl do when there are no limits. Looking at SL I am starting to think that ppl need those limits, if not provided by others, authorities or for some ppl a God... we create our own limits and are back where we started. trying to escape all these limits. This all sounds very heavy and deep but it also goes for how we look, what we want to look at, how we create our environment, houses and nature in SL. I believe many just want to replicate in SL what they don't own or attain in RL, long before fantasy comes to play. For myself I am not a materialistic person, so I'm not much of a customer for chairs, couches, houses and suits.
 6. Remember with arch shapes (like doorways) you have to set their physics type to prim so you can go through them properly. At least thats my guess.
 7. Amchai wrote: That is a pessimistic assessment. I'm still fascinated by the medium and probably spend far too much time online.I hope SL will always be available. Not pessimistic, just realistic. I see the potential of SL but see it failing in many areas, so I'm more skeptical. As far as Sansar being a non-open private 'experience' kind of thing, that's fine but not my interest, and I won't be buying VR things for quite a while until they actually make something great for them, the price comes down, and they become less of a gimmick product. Yes I am very critical and seemingly pessimistic of things, but there's more than enough bull**bleep**ting and praise going around in the world and unicorn positivity - sometimes someone needs to step up and call a spade a spade. We need to get the other 19 of the 20 people in my network back. That means an overhaul, a new strategy, incentives, tutorials and new opportunities.
 8. If you have a lot of creativity and imagination, you're going to be a bit strange sometimes.
 9. Sansar will widen the gap between the professional 3D designers/elite and the rest of us plebes. SL will degrade into IMVU environment, catering to the lowest-denominator, with junk items and junk people, and full of trolls and griefers. With that pessimistic outlook, I think SL could still have a long and great future, but since there is no time being invested into revamping it, making it new-user friendly, and cleaning up how merchants design, market and sell their products, along with other issues - it seems doomed for failure. At least in my part of the world, for the most part 19 of 20 participants are no longer in SL - and when SL is mentioned to the average person they either 1) Don't understand what it is 2) Think its for losers SL is on its way out, and its not because of its usefulness, but rather it's image and presentation.
 10. Sometimes it's not about being daft at all. Sometimes that person is found to be quite narcissistic - he/she literally believes he is attractive, successful and 'the shyte", and so acts in accordance with that. Their self-esteem is so falsely high, they don't see themselves in any other way - even if in reality they are a fat, lazy greasy slob with nothing to show or any real success at anything to prove it. If he is rejected, its the other person's fault, never his own.
 11. My products mainly sell Monday to Friday. I thought the weekends would be big (assuming that's when people are most likely to buy things) but for me it's not the case. I'm better off spending the weekend and releasing something for Sunday night, rather than Friday night.
 12. Thanks for the info and reminders. I will go over your replies in depth more when I get the chance. I do prefer manual decimation over automated, because it is easy if I keep my meshes clean from the beginning - decimation is clean from that. Sometimes I'm not in the mood to work on hi-poly to low its the boring part of design, but I get there eventually Yes, the 3 names including Drongle, Arton and the other were very helpful in this department, we dont hear enough from them really. I wish they'd have a blog because then my skills might develop faster with some oversight and easier reference than digging out old replies on a forum.
 13. SoundCloud is an audio platform that lets you listen to what you love and share the sounds you create. You can even upload some of your original music like some of us do. Have fun.
 14. Any shortcoming in this part will be due to lack of documentation and support (and tips from LL) to meet these LOD expectations. Drongle is the only guy so far I have seen to explain this in detail very well. My beef mainly is the degradation between the High model (which I optimize from a high poly) to the Medium level, which wants almost 66% decimation, and the switch over inworld is almost instantaneous... if my avatar isn't standing 1m away from the item, it shifts to Medium. So many times, I optimize my High to look the best it can, then use the same model for the Medium, then work on optimizing the Low. The lowest is the most formidable, and almost pointless, as if you even use more than 3 vertices, it can make a 3 Li item into 8 Li just on the Lowest model alone - so many times I just make the 3 LODS high, medium and low, and give up on the lowest setting, because it doesnt give me enough vertices to work with to even make a billboard... or the model itself doesn't allow for it. I'm all for learning about how to optimize and upload my meshes for SL. Some of us are NOT lazy, we just don't know how. I do pretty good, though some of my older items blink out too early. Parts Of My Mesh Keep Disappearing! Good info in the replies in that post about LODs, etc. We need this in documentation.

I would like to fuind people with businesses, that would be willing to put one of my pictures in thier place of business, I would do a custom painting that features the business, and the painting would be available to your customers priced at 0L, I would also put the painting in my marketplace store priced at 100L with a note that is is available for free inworld at your location. I would include a notecard with the painting that tells about my art, and asks for a donation, but no one is required to give me anything. Also for those who are willing to show several paintings I would include a tip jar, with half of the preceeds going to you. If any ofthis sounds intersting either IM me or send a notecard, I am not on much on th eweekends but I am her a while most days Monday to Friday. How would you feature my business in a painting? Some examples certainly would be great to understand what you are offering. Also, how do I benefit from this deal, since the painting is only $0L at my inworld store, but $100L on your own. Would I get more visitors maybe? What's in it for me to host your advertisement of your art and store at mine? Why not just ask someone to host your art like a gallery, and sell it right from there, with some proceeds from each sale going to your host? For example, I may have 50 prims spare for you to use, or help offset the cost of land by sharing prims with another creator on the same land... Incoming reply appreciated.
 16. It's hard to understand exactly what your goal is, but I'll try to help; Hassel85 wrote: I want to change the name of my items on my marketplace. Can i change them easily? or do i have to upload them again? they have their names, but i want to change them to improve the search of those articles on marketplace webside. Prerequisite Reading: --------- Selling In The Marketplace --------- Using the Viewer-Managed Marketplace Yes you can change the name of a product advertisement listing on the Marketplace. Hassel85 wrote: i tried to do that, i managed to change the name and when i did a delivery test i can see the names are the new ones i wrote them, but in my marketplace the old name is still the same, it didn't change. The product delivered will be the name of the associated item that you uploaded to your Viewer Managed Marketplace. It will be the name of the item included in the original folder. [My Default Cube] ----[ My Default Cube ] ----------- [ My Default Cube Version 2 ] You will need to read "Changing An Item Associated With A Listing" and see if that solves your problem. You will be basically uploading the same product but with a different name, and it will be a new 'version'. Hope that helps, if not, you will have to clarify your goals a bit better
 17. Also, I notice some meshes degrade too quickly in order to get low Li ratings. I know I went through that phase before returning to a post I made long ago in which you helped immensely, but I didn't fully understand and grasp the concepts you presented. I'm much better at making the individual LODs now, though I'm not sure how to make the final billboards that represent anything anyway, so in the short term give up on the Lowest LOD looking like anything - though simpler box shapes are easier to flatten. I notice the LOD popping when trying to photograph things, and pull the camera back, and the mesh drops LOD right away. in the short term, I increase my Advanced Properties?->Object visibility? up to Highest, and that solves the problem. For example, a full size windmill on a sim listed in the log in screen drops to a lower LOD quite quickly and it was hard to get a good photo of it and the surrounding landscape because of this... I've also found that bounding boxes play a larger part in LOD display than LOD meshes, as some smaller things I've made degrade wayyyy too fast. For example, I'll will need to make some vacuum tubes that are like 4" long tops in-game, but they disappear at 3m+ even if I have clever LODs involved... if I'm making a custom guitar head for example, its really disappointing when your cool design breaks because the tubes disappear almost immediately just because your avatar's face isn't 1m away... bad for photography, where the cam might be 10m away. Anyway, we don't hear enough of your expertise on this matter, do you have a blog? I've always appreciated your comments on optimizing mesh and LODs (as well as the expertise you display in your own which I strive for) thanks

I really am tired of gachas on the Marketplace. I scrolled through 40 pages under the refined search of Apparel > Women's... Newest first, 96 posts per page 40 pages of gachas for Blueberry Mykonos outfits. WOW, this is overkill. I really don't want to use MP anymore. PLEASE Linden Labs give us filters to filter out keywords! Gacha is a blight and scourge on the Marketplace, and adds to the bloat by adding multiple listings of the same item, from multiple sellers, uses the same image to represent up to 30 different products, and on a default search spams the listings by hundreds of item listings. Using 'NOT Gacha' is fine in the short term, add that to "NOT demo NOT promo NOT rental" and all the rest of the NOTs just to have a decent search result. I appreciate the talent put into the Gacha products, their quality seems excellent, but they need their own category, so that people specifically looking for them can participate in it - or make it a search option like mod/copy/transfer/gachascam to leave the rest of us out of it. Right now I have to use "NOT Gacha NOT demo NOT promo NOT sale NOT rental" just to get a clean search result, and that is not acceptable from a user standpoint.
 19. RE: Loopback Yes, according to the manual for your audio interface, you need to enable it for it to broadcast what you hear on your computer to the internet. Loopback is a convenient function for broadcasting over the Internet. It mixes the input audio signals (such as microphone and guitar) with the audio signals playing back in the software in the computer into two channels in the UR22mkII, and sends them back to the computer. Read more on Page 7 - Steinberg UR22 mkII Operation Manual.pdf There are streaming tests on the internet, but you'll have to google those. I know several sites like Twitch, Justin.TV, Ustream, etc all have tests to see if you can stream effectively. OpenBroadcaster and XSplit (which stream directly from your computer) also have tests and tweaks. See what you can find on this matter. Most streaming services you mainly need to tell the software the 'device' you are using to broadcast, installation is not the hardest part, its making sure you have the proper devices. Sorry I can't reply with more specifics on ICecast/shoutcast streaming, I just wanted to give you some info on the other issues. Maybe some helpful resources: Streaming Your Own Music Into Second Life
 20. Freya Mokusei wrote: This has been a good chat. Thanks for understanding my perspective. We agree on all your points, these are the points I wanted to make anyway - much like you, I don't have much experience explaining these things to people, especially if they are discouraged when things change and they have unexpected results. And people wonder why I rail on things like listings having no demo button, repeated product images for each color and style of one product, repeated gacha images to reflect 30-item-sets, the overuse and abuse of keywords (probably unknowingly), etc that all contributes to the MP having cluttered searches. If I think there is a better way of doing something, I'll suggest it. If someone is gaming the system, I'll point it out. In the end, I just want everyone to find what they're looking for, and for the MP to work smoothly, but we all must take responsibility for how we use it, access it, and construct our own listings.
 21. Yet my search for "SMB" ( brand name or initials for something ?) turns up immediately 8252 relevant search results. Appears to be child avatar panties, swim suits and pyjamas mainly? Even then, assuming you have troubles, just entering "SMB" should have caused problems since it's one keyword, and initials at that - yet I still got relevant results. Also, improving your search skills and including more keywords in your search should help you greatly Examples;. "SMB overalls" ( 415 Results ) would return more relevant results than only "SMB", and even more so if you searched for "SMB Pink Overalls" (13 Results ) or "SMB Pink Camo Overalls" (1 Result) Working as expected, and intended. Want more relevancy in your searches? Use more than one keyword. Want to be found? Use relevant and accurate titles that describe your product. "Relevance : How closely the elements of your ad campaign match what a person seems to be looking for." - Relevance: Definition (from Google)
 22. I was responding to this quote, and saying you can be found - with a proper keyword search. Pamela Galli wrote: I suspect mine are not very affected because I threw in the towel on all SL search years ago.
