  1. I gather it's possible to add pictures to a post, am I correct? There is an option when you write the comment, but it doesn't seem to work for me. (I've been around for years, but only recently returned.) I can't add or see any pictures in any forum posts. I'm using chrome (with adblocker disabled for this site). I can't find any info about this on SL or my browser. --------------------- This is a test to see if I've solved the problem on my own. (Unchecked "Ignore HTML" on "My settings: preference Options" page.) Seems to have worked, I'll leave this up in case someone else needs it
  2. OK, your answers are great, thanks both of you. The head: Yes! She wasn't wearing a separate alpha mask on her head, but the hole went away and her head eventually became whole again. (It was there for a long time, through various hair switches and log-ins and outs. Sometimes my alphas are slow to react.) Maybe it was an alpha layer built into the wig that lingered when I took the wig off? I've noticed, now and in the past, that a tuft of stubble is sometimes visible for a while after removing the hair, too. The yellow mesh eyes; I changed the settings and the yellow seems to have gone away. *I have more question about attaching shoes: I've removed the invisible prims and relinked the parts, the shoes look great, I try them on. I'm wearing the appropriate foot shaper and alpha mask, (as appropriate as I can find). I get the shoes attached to the lower leg, (not the foot; I read that somewhere). I get them adjusted and they look good on the pose stand. But when I walk around, you can see the foot flashing in and out of the shoe. It's as if the layers are all joined at one point but flopping around an axis at different angles, if that makes any sense. Or as if the alpha I'm using isn't attached to the foot, but loose? Or blinking off and on? I've seen this on some purchased shoes as well. It may be it only happens sometimes, I'm not sure, because I'm not always watching my shoes. Are there tricks to attaching shoes that I'm not aware of?
  3. I have several questions regarding fashion: 1. First, why do all the mesh eyes I try to use show a seriously jaundiced bright yellow tint? I'm using the latest SL viewer, and have wonderful mesh eyes, but can't use any of them. I can use system eyes, regular prim eyes, but the mesh ones are messed up. 2. Second, I'm trying to fix my favorite gorgeous old invisible prim shoes (that I paid a small fortune for years ago) by taking away the invisible prims. It's working well, but, unfortunately, I can't seem to find any decent Alpha layers, especially for short ankle boots. All I can do is stretch the shoes to clownish proportions and ram them halfway up the legs, which is not a good look, I must say. Does anyone know of any decent foot alphas with clean edges? Are they really hard to make? Why do most of them have jagged, nasty edges? Would it be possible to just apply an alpha mask as a texture to the system foot shaper? I have little interest in making shoes, but it appears I might have to learn, as I am have no plans to get mesh feet anytime soon. I have at least three pairs of lovely barefoot feet that just aren't cuttin it these days. Buying shoes and feet is a risky business 3. This isn't really important, but I was messing around tinting a hairstyle while wearing it. (It didn't seem like such a good idea dragging it out on the grass to do it; maybe I'll try that next.) Anyway, when I detached the hair, it must have taken a chunk of my skull with it, because that avatar now has a great big hole in the back of her head, lol. It doesn't seem to affect the other hairpieces, and the hair that stole my skull still looks and works fine, but I'm wondering if this is a common occurence. I've had hats and things steal the hair off my head, but I've never had an attachment steal part of the avatar body before. If anyone has any answers to these questions, please let me know.
  4. I rather thought it might be impossible. Some of the quieter animations don't merge the body and guitar to any great degree, but the head banging and stomping around ones do. I'll look for a nice restrained sit-and-strum HUD, that should do it. Thanks.
  5. I have several animated guitars purchased on the marketplace. I think the animations are very nice, but there are glaring problems. The avatar body intersects the guitar, mainly, causing varying degrees of both the guitar and the body parts disappearing into the interacting object. Some of this may be because I use a rather small avatar. The visual glitch that bothers me the most is that my clothes are almost always visible through the guitar's soundhole. Without building a new guitar and adding an opaque soundhole, I can't think of any way to solve this issue. Is it possible, (has it been done?), to make a set of guitar animations that don't display this intersecting of guitar and avatar? Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm willing to attempt a lot of things, but animating is, alas, beyond my capabilities at this point. I would definitely be interested in purchasing better guitar playing animations, both standing and sitting down. I haven't found any on the market that satisfy.
  6. OK, answered my own question; it's the region, or the grid, or the server; not anything I did. Last time I checked, my land impact was 67, as it should be. But I could not move. Every time I tried to walk, run, swim, or fly, I was immediately turned around and returned to the same spot, inside a rock! I could teleport to another location, but still couldn't control my avatar. Strange goings on.
  7. This sounds very similar to the problem I'm having. When I figure the land impact total using the land impact figures of each object from the editor, it comes to 67. When I right click on the land, it says I'm using 174. The region was restarted earlier today, and I wrote the estate manager but haven't gotten an answer yet. Something's not right. [i started a new thread looking for an answer: "Land impact total doesn't match up with object land impact figures from edit window???"] I don't share the lnad with anyone, and have permission for a land impact of 175. It's very frustrating, because now I can't do any more work on the property until this is resolved. ------------------------------ Later that day..... Now my land impact figure is correct, but my avatar won't work right. I'll try again later. Seems to be some kind of problem with the region or the grid.
  8. I did a lot of work on my tiny 512m parcel last night, but I was very careful to clean up and used beacons and highlighting to make sure I didn't leave anything laying around. I can't find a single speck left over, and I looked above ground and underneath it. Here's my problem. I started out with a land impact total of 65. I'm allowed 175. I added two (2) prims, and my total shot from 65 to 174. First I added a small transparent prim with an animated water texture, and I made sure I removed the script. The edit window for the object reads "land impact 1". Next I added was a mesh rock with a particle bubbler, once again, I removed the script and the editor says it has a land impact of 1. Neither item was overly complex or large, neither one was stretched, in fact I reduced the size of both considerably from the original. My land impact total should have gone up by 2 points as far as I can tell, but it leapt from 65 to 174 after I did all the work. Over the course of furnishing the island this is the first time anything remotely like this has happened and I just don't get it. The numbers always tallied up in the past. (I have three animated features inside my house, one fire lamp that I think uses particles, and none of them raised my land impact total beyond what the editor tells me. They all have the scripts removed too, except maybe for a bed and a small on/off lamp I'm not allowed to modify.). I need to keep at least108 units of land impact available so I can pull out my cats when I want to play with them. I debated removing the new items to see what would happen, but they took so much work to install. Is it possible that all the opening and moving things around caused the number to skyrocket and it just hasn't been updated yet, or is there another culprit? I don't know of any way to pull up a list of everything on the island, but I went around with my edit window and checked each object against what it said. My total came to 67 according to the figures from the object editor. This is extremely frustrating for me as a first-time SL renter. Please tell me if you have any idea what's going on.
  9. "For real permanent building, though, find yourself a quiet sandbox on Agni or (even better) rent yourself a parcel to work on." I finally rented one, thanks. Now if I only had more ram.......
  10. "So, you know that you don't need to go to Aditi to see how your trial textures look, don't you? Just use Local Textures." Really? I did not know that, now I do. Thanks! Still, Aviti seems like a good place to build, better than some of the main grid sandboxes I've been to in the past. Less people, less fun and games, more serious about building, etc. And is there a similar function for mesh objexts? I've been reading, but haven't made many things yet, and trying to upload isn't something I've had much experience with.
  11. From one beginning builder to another: Gimp and Blender are the way to go. I use Photoshop to edit my jpgs, but I can't do alpha masks in PS elements, as far as I can tell. (My mac died, and took with it all my software, so I only have adobe elements and *$%*#@ Gimp.to make my alpha masks.) Gimp is gimpy but it works. Make sure to use the Beta grid to test your beginning textures. Save your actual money for when you know what you're doing. I made my first tentative foray into Aviti today, and uploaded some trial textures. Glad I did, it's going to save me a bundle testing them for free. I only wasted L$10 on the main grid to know pay-as-you-learn wasnt going to work for me.The sandboxes were easy to find and seemed a lot less populated there as well. Next comes blender........
  12. Sounds interesting; did you get it off the ground yet? I tried a few music venues years ago, but with my aging system couldn't handle the freezes. But I'd try again sometime. I'm a real-life visual artist with a few songs of my own, really raw; mostly country/delta-blues style. Let me know if anything happens.....
  13. I've been off the grid for a long long time, and was sad to find upon my return that the Lolo Pet store and its fantastic surrounds is no longer there. Where is Wade? Whatever happened to the Lolo, and has anything new and wonderful been built to fill the void? Please let me know. signed, Mea, Lolo fan.
  14. Mine are 1 prim "sculpted stones" from 3D Trees, so I assume they're the "limited to a simple blob-shaped collision envelope" type you wrote about. They're pretty enough, though, and super inexpensive, not to mention very low land-impact. I'm going to have to try to make some rocks myself one of these days. I think the person who has the estate rights added the all-over grass texture, or maybe he holds it jointly with someone who did. I found some sand, very deep down under the water, between the islands. It's a very low-lag, sparsely populated location, so I'm willing to work a little harder to get the visual effect I want.
  15. I have another question for you; The rocks I added aren't solid, I can't sit on them and walk right through them. (see pictures) They're able to be modified; Is there a way to make them solid? I don't mind walking through my trees, but walking through rocks is most disconcerting. ********************** I found the wiki and answered my own question. Now I know why they checked "phantom"; I walked around on top ot the invisible prim outline surrounding the rocks for a few seconds before I figured it out. Oh, well, can't have everything, I guess.
  16. Great suggestion, sounds like a plan. I've never owned land before, so I quess I expected it to have texture zones (if that's what you'd call them) according to altitude, and sand under the water like so many places I've seen. Meanwhile, I've made a satisfactory pond by adding rocks. It looks great, but I am going to try out the sphere idea.
  17. OK, so I wrote I don't want to spend hundreds on a texture overide, the one you gave me the link to costs thousands. Thanks, I already saw that and decided not to get it. Sorry, but that's a month's rent on my 512m plot, and it isn't going to happen. That's why I'm looking for a small, non-scripted, simple, cheap way to sand bottom my pond, and I'm betting one exists, too. I tried a "tropical water" texture adder, (L$49), which was interesting, but not quite what I had in mind. It has transparent edges, sort of, and changes the color, but since it floats just under the surface it doesn't look right at all angles. I need a textured or sculpted prim that will fall to and conform to the bottom. Can it be done?
  18. I recently bought my first tiny piece of land. Terraforming is allowed within limits but I am not able to change the texture, so I have green grass everywhere, including underwater. I know there must be a way to add a new texture, maybe some kind of painted mega prim or something. I don't want to add a texture override with scripts etc. because I have a very small prim allowance, besides, I don't want to pay hundreds of lindens. I was thinking along the lines of some kind of rug or liner that might conform to the ground underneath and have faded or transparent edges so it blends well. I'm willing to learn how to make this if i'ts even possible. It MUST be cheap! Any ideas?
  19. I was going to write about all the great animations I found, but I don't think it's allowed here, so I deleted all of that. I'll tell you inworld if we meet up. My favorite AO was really cheap, very realistic for a kindergarden-aged child; my avi even sneezes and wipes her nose while she stands. The only problem is I can't add to it, although it's supposed to have modify permissions, I think. I'm such a loner, I can't even imagine going to school. I'm really shy, and hardly ever approach anyone, but sometimes I hang around until someone talks to me. And I cannot bear iddlespeak, If that's what they're calling babytalk these days. I just like bopping and cartwheeling and skipping around as a kid. My small size and androgenous look does seem to keep the sexual come-ons in check, (although from what I have read that isn't always the case). I've had a lot of fun playing stupid kid games with immature adult avis I met. When I want to be serious I switch to my adult avi. I like the kid avatar best, though. I got my child avatar as a kind of defense mechanism, after being pushed around several times. I find "the kid" doesn't seem to attract bullies, but that could always change. I have a few other secret weapon avatars I can switch to when situations get out of hand. Or just for fun. Next time I'm online I'll see if you're there. I love to hang out at scenic places; my current fave is the Grand Canyon. It's great for my favorite activities, flying, skydiving, hang-gliding, anything that makes me feel free, which is the best thing Second Life has to offer, to me anyway. I'm pretty much an outdoor wild child kind of second-lifer. Have fun!
  20. I got a whole box full of male avatars at One Quarter French in the freebie market. If you visit One Quarter French it's not too hard to find. Most are black or Hispanic looking, and some are pretty nice, especially for freebies. (The other avatars there are not very good, in my opinion, but the men were OK.) You will definately have to play around to find a look you like, though. Shape and skin don't alwyas match if you take one from one avatar and apply it to the skin from a different avatar, I found out. I had to try on a few skins after I used the sliders to make a shape I like. Good luck!
  21. I became a child avater more by chance than anything else, and now I'm hooked, mostly because she's so cute I can hardly stand it. I think my AO and the child animations are what make her so appealing. If you're interested in animations for your child I can make suggestions. I also have found wondeful freebies that are appropriate for a child, (I think). Other than that, I do pretty much the same things I did as my adult avatars; explore, fly, hobo around, go camping, (in a tent, not for money), look at animals. I don't accept friends very often because most people who ask have different goals than I do, but if you want someone to play with and wish to contact me, I'm game. I may try some of the places you have been, and plan to do a little more research on what SL children can actually do. I like being an "orphan", and really enjoy being a kid. Have fun!
  22. Is there a drop-down menu in ME/preferences/general when you have your viewer open? Mine offers all options in the drop-down menu. I was able to access all areas immediately after getting verified, but I have heard of this problem before, from someone who claimed to be 16 when they registered and wanted to change their status. Is it possible you used an underage birthdate when you first registered? I have also heard of verification taking a little while, maybe more than 24 hours. That's about the best I can do; I'm fairly new here too. Hope you find what you need.
  23. There is a nice flying car for free at Fairchang Isles freebies; FairChang Calypso SW (87,93,23). There are a lot of free houseboats and other things there. I got some very cool taxis and buses and bikes and blimps and submarines for free at this Arcadia Asylum freebie museum: Cheonma (203, 143, 74) - Moderate If you go to Cheonma, take your time and run through all of the venders on the wall. Each has dozens of items and it's a lot of work to look at everything, but Arcadia made the coolest freebies I have seen. They work well and are easy to use, and many are wearable so rezzing is not a problem (Arcadia's creations have historical significance as well, at least in second life, hence the memorial library.)
  24. Sounds like all you "purchased" was a landmark to the property. I looked up the listing, and from experience I think that's all you bought. Hang out, investigate, don't drop any lindens into the rent box and you should be fine. The landmark is just to get you to come look at the land. I thought I was getting a free week's rent when I bought one, LOL. I contacted the landlord who explained things to me.
  25. I did go to Kuso and spent a few bucks. Very nice animations, especially the ballet dances. I still like my $L49 Kiddie AO best, but I'm starting to put a new one together for my kid. Thanks!
