  1. Thanks. I knew about everything but Build / Pathfinding / Linksets and RLV, will check it out next time I'm inworld. Script beacons are a mega-pain, and not always easy to use. I recenty learned about the render/ground patch, so now it's easier to find my lost objects when they've gone underground. I still have to manually look inside the rocks, though. Maybe unchecking render/volume can help with that, haven't had to try it yet.
  2. When my noob friend showed up at my door stressed out and wearing an invisible body, I suggested she start over with a fresh system avatar and go easy on the alpha layers until she finds out what does what. Thanks for all the laughs. --- Hope I don't repeat anything already written: The garter socks are probably the alpha layer to hide you old feet so they don't show when you wear the shoes. When you have them on and your feet are invisible, try this: To move the shoes into position, right click on one and choose "edit". Then use the "move" and "rotate" tools to position them properly. I had a problem with a pair I repaired myself when the shoes were attached to my lower legs, and had to un-attach then re-attach them to my feet. This varies with shoe type. The latest SL viewer renders invisible prims as invisible. Linden fixed this issue and it works for me, anyway. Right after I asked for (and got) updated, non-invisiprim versions of all my favorite old expensive shoes.
  3. Not being a greifer myself, and having no former experience with such, (except for occasionally being kicked, pushed, or caged in a public sandbox), it's hard for me to imagine all the possible ways a sneaky greifer could interfere with me or my land. If an object is introduced, It would show up as land impact, or, if transparent, I should be able to see it with highlighting, no? And If an avatar enters or comes near, my radar should (now) detect it. How do I find out if someone has attached something to me? This has happened before. I suddenly found myself holding a tiny raccoon, for some odd reason, but could not find it in either my appearance window or, later, my inventory. I was able to remove it, though. How do I look for scripts or attachments or camera-following prims that may be animating or interfering with my avatar? I'm not well-versed in the more esoteric viewer options. And how do I look for an invisible prim that extends onto my property? That seems like a highly likely explaination for a blocked door to me. Either that or someone entering undetected and using some kind of device, (or using one from a distance). Last, is it possible for a clever someone else to somehow change my viewer options, or the properties of my locked objects?
  4. Thanks for all the helpful tips. I've never had to think this way before because I never used to build and have only had my own property for a couple of months. Ban lines aren't a problem landlord-wise, I just don't like them. I hate running into them on other people's lots, and hate being ejected by orbs, too, I'm not out to cause trouble. I'd rather keep an open door policy, since it's a pretty much deserted sim anyway. But ban lines it is; I want to keep object entry open for my friends. The sim frame rate tonight was, (if I'm reading it correctly), 45. Lo lod objects <0. All the lag tonight is on my side, internet if I'm not mistaken, and my system. I was alone on the sim. I'll check it again next time there are people around. And I've taken to wearing a radar hud so no one can sneak up on me undetected. It's getting more and more like RL every day. Feh.
  5. Thanks for a clear explaination. I understood that mesh buildings and such had a physics shape, but was not aware that prim buildings do as well. Do they? I've never had the experience on any sim, regardless of how bad the lag is, (and sometimes I can hardly move at all), of being unable to enter through a doorway. In the case of my own property, I could walk around just fine. Trying to walk through the door, however, was like trying to walk through a solid wall. I even got the "clunk" sound ever time I bounced off the building. The sim didn't seem overly laggy, but what do I know. Maybe you're right. The almost empty sim I live on is known for its almost non-existant lag. But I have experienced more lag than usual only when the new neighbor is around. Don't know what he's doing, I don't even see him, I just know everything returns to normal once he leaves. I see no pets, I know there's no building going on, and he has no particles. He doesn't even wear flexi-hair. I have pets, and I may be the biggest resource user on the sim, but I still rarely experienced any lag whatsoever in the past, even when more of the sim was occupied. There's one other tenant with a small property crammed full of breedable, artificially intelligent pets and other scripted objects, games and such. I experience zero lag when I visit that property. It's all very curious to me. I'll try opening the statistics floater, if I can; maybe it will give me some more to go on. But I've had no more object problems since I put up the ban lines.
  6. Since I put the ban lines up I've had no strange occurances, nothing has disappeared, and I'm not locked out of my house or booted off my property. Plenty of bad bad lag when they show up, but that's all. They never seem to stay long, so I can live with the lag for now. Honestly, I'm not even sure I know what a mega prim is. I built a big 1 prim sky platform with the regular viewer tools; maybe that's a mega prim, but I thought you needed special tools or something to make one. My platform doesn't interfere with my performance, and I made it as per instructions.

Do not do this under any circumstances. 1) Nope. Region is rebooted every morning. 2)Nope. Viewer is working fine at all times Mr X is not on the sim. 3) Hmmm. Mega prim? Joking. I thought that would have been obvious.
  8. Nope, the person in question is definitely not a builder. More like a security and survellience nut. There are things I haven't gone into here because it would be too crude and constitute gossip. Let's see, no problems, no problems, no problems for 2 months, then X shows up, 1 minute later all hell breaks loose. Then no problems, no problems, no problems, X shows up, 30 seconds later all hell breaks lose, again. Problems abate the second X leaves the sim. I seriously doubt it's mere coincidence. I'm perfectly esctatic with My property. I worked hard putting it together, it's perfect, it's located exactly where I want it to be, and most of all I'm not wild about being run off of it after such a short period of time. If there's one thing I have in my favor it's patience. Building a mega prim sounds like a great idea. Honestly, I just thought maybe someone would show up here who'd had a similar experience.
  9. My objects were never Gone, I just couldn't see them any more. I've been being greifed, I'm fairly certain. I just don't know how. I thought maybe they used some kind of invisible prim, but couldn't find one. At any rate, all systems are on alert and the ban lines are up. I didn't want to do that because I hate them. It's not like this is real or anything, I don't see why I have to be paranoid in a cartoon universe. Oh, well. I did contact the estate manager. I'll see what she has to say about it.
  10. Thanks! I knew about the sound option but I did not know about the see and chat option. I need to uncheck it.
  11. I rented a small island on a private estate with few neighbors, but recently the manager changed the terrain and everyone mysteriously vacated their properties. I was left on a tiny island surrounded by larger vacant mountainous lots. A new tenant or landowner recently moved in, and I've had nothing but problems with my objects and property ever since. Everything's fine until the new home-owner shows up. It all started with a security orb that kept sending me notices that I was going to be ejected from my own property. I was trying to create when it happened. I messaged the guy and he apologized. He said he'd accidentally set the orb up for the entire region. Then a number of my objects disappeared. Poof, gone. I thought it might be the orb that did it, and I asked the orb owner about it. For some mysterious reason, my viewer had stopped rendering certain objects. I hadn't changed anything, and discovered that the options had changed, so was able to remedy it. All of my objects are locked. I did not think anyone could change them; maybe they can't I don't know. Next time so-and-so showed up in the region, in less than a minute several objects disappeared from view for no reason, not a rendering problem this time. And I was unable to get inside my structure. It was as if an invisible shield was keeping me out of my house. I used the "sit here" trick to get in, but was immediately pushed back out again when I stood up. As soon as I was alone on the region again, my objects re-appeared and the force field was gone. Anyway, I don't have enough SL time to know for sure if this is greifing. I'm hoping someone who has more experience in these things can give me an idea of what might be going on. If it is greifing, what can I do to prevent it? I was told by the estate manager that the terrain had been changed to provide total privacy to attract renters, but when the new tenant moved in I found myself alone in the region with the only other house 30 yards from mine and looming over my property, despite a narrow channel of water in between us and new mountains hemming me in on all the other sides. I'm getting the impression that maybe someone wants me to vacate my land. What do you think?
  12. It is amazing if it works right. The designs are so clean, very skillfully done. I think I will try another viewer.
  13. I have some beautiful modifiable mesh pants that can be shortened and lengthened by a HUD. The creator tried to help me. Her note said you have to have basic shaders and avatar hardware skinning checked in order to see the changes, and I do, but I can't. When I went to her store to try to solve this, the creator could see the pants change, but I can't, not with my (latest) SL viewer. Anyone has a quick and easy answer as to how to get this to work, a debug setting, perhaps? Or do I need to chuck this PC out the window and steal a new one? [I've had some other odd things like this happen. The other day, all of a sudden all of my trees disappeared. I had done nothing to cause it. I found out searching underground for the doggone things that the "render trees" option had mysteriously changed. Fortunately for me, that meant I got my trees back.]
  14. Thanks for all the explanations, really helps.
  15. Makes sense. I'm off to right click a few jelly dolls.....
  16. I hate to ask because this sounds like such a noob question and I'm not...well, maybe a re-noob, but anyway...Why do some avatars show up properly and some all I see is a blank colored silhouette? They never rez, it happens even when there are no other avatars around, and nothing I do in preferences seems to make it any better. Wah. These are real avatars mind you, not bots or some other non-avatar wierdnesses. Yes, I have mesh enabled. One dude switched from his head-in-a-jar to a regular guy and I could see him just fine. I wanted to check out his head-in-a-jar because I have the same one. I got to see it for a second while he was rezzing. It's a bummer.
  17. I can't access anything, but I'm still logged in. Just stuck. I went back, got in, and still wound up in limbo the first mistake I made. Had to log out and log back in to do anything, again. I'm not going back there, it's too much of a drag.
  18. This isn't a big deal, but I am curious: In the past too months, I have attempted twice to visit a certain popular jungle sim, (it might be considered improper to name names). The rules and instructions are complicated, and before I can even read the entire billboard, I get a notice saying I am being "gently escorted" to an exit. Then I find myself stuck in some sort of dark, bleak, and lonely limbo that looks like the a**-end of nowhere, stripped of most of my attachments, unable to move or teleport to another location. I'm forced to log out of SL and restart my viewer if I want to return to SL. Does anyone else experience this kind of rude ejection, or am I just seen as a particularly noxious invader to be ejected from a public sim and sent to purgatory? (Joking)
  19. Nope. But the texture the creator used looks very white. I discovered that I can't tint mesh objects like I can ordinary ones. I did try to tint the necklace, but it looks bad either way, the way it came or tinted. It's tinted in the pictures. The original necklace is flat white. It's supposed to have some light grey patterns, and look 3-dimensional. I was able to apply my own texture, and that worked OK. It may be the only solution. I don't know what I can do about the yellow mesh eyes and other items.
  20. For a minute there I thought you were on to something; it showed up better, not perfect, but close in at least it wasn't solid white. Then, not matter how much I fiddled with the shaders, the level of detail, draw distance, avatar complexity, etc., the obkect still show up solid white. I think I'll contact the creator and see what they suggest. It wasn't expensive, but still..... So no demo, no buyee. When am I going to learn that lesson? It's annoying because it's so perplexing. If it was All objects, I'd hate it, but I'd understand, maybe. But it isn't. It's just a few, and always mesh.
  21. I wasn't sure where, exactly, to post this question, but technology seemed like the best bet. I'm using the latest SL viewer, and a few, (very few), mesh objects don't seem to render correctly and sometimes have a yellow tint. Some show a loss of detail and are flat white, most are fine except for the yellow stain. One is too bright; the existing texture doesn't show, and adding a tint with any yellow in it makes the item bright yellow. To add to the confusion, sometimes the applied texture shows, sometimes it doesn't and sometimes the object looks exactly like it should for a second or two. (I couldn't get this one to show bright yellow today, but you can get the general idea from the following pictures. It's the same whether attached or dragged out onto the ground.) Environmental settings were suggested: I've tried fiddling around with my environmental settings, but cannot for the life of me find and open the old window with the sliders where you could fine-adjust every detail like clouds and reflections. (I was gone for a few years). Besides, I don't think it has anything to do with atmospheric shading. I tried adding basic shaders with no change. I'm on an older PC, Nividia Gfrorce 7 series card and have only 1 gig ram. Maybe it's my computer. But this yellow stain is only a problem on a few objects, mostly eyes and avatar attachments; the rest are fine. I'm a bit reluctant to buy high-end objects, though, and am building a few things myself. I'd hate to give someone something and not have it display correctly. Any ideas? (Other than replace my computer.)
  22. Oh, the heck with it. I just bought the cheapest pair of mesh feet I found in seconds on the marketplace, just to see what the new feet are all about. If they work at all, maybe I'll try some of the more expensive ones. Grrr. Sometimes I hate change! I'm an old dog, you know what they say about new tricks and all..... ------------------------------------- Hah! Simple fix, and now I don't have to chuck my kitty shoes! (I AM old hat.) Now why didn't I think of it earlier? I attached the shoes to my feet instead of the legs and readjusted them; now they work fine. No more feet flopping in and out of the shoes. Moving right along, time to try out the bargain basement mesh feet..... ------------------------------------- OK, you sold me. If $5 gets me this, (and I haven't even textured them yet), maybe I'll pop for a better pair sometime. These looked this good straight out of the box, except for the adornments. Now I want hands....... See what you started? I tore apart one of my old unwearable pairs of feet to get the jewelry. I have to say I'm very impressed with how far feet have come in 5 years. I sent a note yesterday to the person who made my favorite shoes, asking if she had an updated version, and got a surprise package in my inventory. They look great, and she told me she updated all her shoes after I asked. I'm amazed and humbled by the generosity of these creators. I'm keeping the cat shoes, though.
  23. I love those dam shoes! I don't care if they're vintage. I did exactly what you wrote, I used a foot shaper , which doesn't really shape the foot to the shoe, but with the alpha mask I used it looks fine on the pose stand. The problem is, the shoe and the foot don't seem to move in tandem. As I walk, the foot moves one way and the shoe another, and the alpha layer seems to move around and appear and disappear as well. Surely the shoe, once adjusted to the foot, is supposed to stay on the foot and not flap around, isn't it? I never had this problem years ago. (I've been gone for a long time.) I did attach my shoes to the leg, not the foot; maybe that's the cause of this mysterious snafu? I haven't found any new shoes that I like as well as my old ones. Besides, I've had the flopping problem on shoes I recently purchased. Granted they weren't expensive, but sometimes they work perfectly, and other times the feet stick through the shoes. It's an utter mystery to me. I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I don't really want to buy more feet. I'd really like to fix some of the shoes I have. I'm thinking maybe I need to add feet to them. Some of them are ankle boots, anyway, so it shouldn't be a problem, but it is. How can I put on an alpha that cuts the foot off at the ankle and still have feet poking through the shoe from time to time? The feet in the last picture have an alpha layer that hides all but the top of the foot, and yet you can clearly see the toes. It's as if the alpha sticks to the shoe instead of the foot. As for the market, I just tried on demos of shoes that cost $250L a pair, and they still had invisiprims. That's one reason I'm reluctant to buy new shoes. Feh, I'll probably buy slink feet, eventually. Or learn to make shoes...Or I can always go barefoot.
  24. Anyway, I'm thinking there are two separate issues: 1. The alphas, and thank you for the link. 2. The shoe attachment. No alpha is going to prevent the foot from slipping in and out of the shoe like this:
  25. I Finally figured out how to add pictures to a post so I can see them. Here are pictures of one pair of the offending partially-repaired shoes. The first is how they're supposed to look. The second is how they look when I jump off the pose stand and walk around.
