  1. I'm looking for high altitude destinations, among the clouds or in the stratosphere. I've taken to following the beacons up, and have found some very interesting constructions high in the sky. There are some really odd ones above the "ripple" region, for example, and near ( and above) the Alpha_tribe island. I usually find them by running into them head-on on my way up,. Makes a lovely "bonk" at high speed. I'd like to know of more nature-based destinations, though. I'm particularly fond of floating islands, forests, and watery worlds, the bigger the better. Has anyone made a "Smoke Ring" on "Integral Trees" Larry Niven kind of site yet? If you know of a great one, tell me about it.
  2. Hi! At first I would click "wear" on the title of the box and wind up with boxes attached all over my avatar. That was fun! I figured it out pretty quick, though, and went looking for a sandbox. Problem is, a lot of sandboxes are popular places where pranksters hang out, and they'd attach boxes to me anyway. I have a couple of places where I usually like to open my packages. They're not sandboxes, but I look on the map and try to find an empty region so I can have some privacy. Ideally, I guess, you'd have your own private land, but hoboes have to make do. I'm sure I'm quite a spectacle, surrounded by boxes and switching avatars out in the open. (I'm new here, too). Don't forget to right click on your emptied box and choose "delete". If you choose "take", you'll wind up with a huge mess in your inventory. I've spent days cleaning mine out. The French Quarter has a huge freebie section where you can get all the free avatars you'll probably need. They're a little short on females, but have males and non-human avatars to the Max. I spent about 8 hours in the box-opening area there this morning.
  3. Beautiful avatar, BTW, and very unique, like your "island". I love your photo and the glowing white hair on you and the cat.
  4. You have a lovely, subtle modern-girl look; I like it a lot! Nice to meet you!
  5. Hi there, Wade! I love the cat avatars! I have a tiny, but it's just so small, I can hardly find myself. I've taken to flying with the tiger lately, but that will probably loose it's charm quickly. I've been getting braver and actually went looking for the raptors. Luckily I didn't find any, . I've been trying to reduce lag, and have been leaving my kitten behind when I travel. I miss having her on my shoulder, though. As soon as I get the system and its quirks figured out, she's riding with me again. I got a spectacular fire-breathing metallic dragon avatar that I'm planning to break out soon. Maybe the dragon will come to LoLo and hunt! Good to hear from you!
  6. Ok, it;s true that I am an immature SL child. I haven't been long enough to be set in my virtual ways, but I can't even imagine finding one permanent look; one that you're stuck with, like in real life? I started out trying to develop an avatar I'd feel comfortable running around in. Unfortunately, I really don't want to be an enormous-chested, heavily made-up sex kitten. I don't particularly want a male identity, either, so I was kind of stuck with what Linden had to offer, at first. My first attempt looked way too much like my RL sister, but with a little tweaking I was able to make a more athletic version of my happiest, healthiest real-life me. Remember the Glory days? Hah! Here you can have them back, and then some. Why on virtual earth would I want to recreate life with all its limitations? But I do "feel" most comfortable running around in an avatar I can recognize as me, so to speak Then, out of the blue, I was thrown a curve. I was sent the most gorgeous skin by a wonderful artist who probably didn't realize I was deliberately toning it down, glamour-wise. Of course, it would have been impolite not to wear the exquisite present, and once I had it on I found it irresistible. Which isn't to say that I have quit looking for the real-me avatar; I'm just going to have to take the time to pull my downloaded templates into photoshop and mess around until I get what I really want. Shapes are a different matter altogether. I'm not happy with the blocky look of the modest shapes I can manipulate inworld, and I haven't seen one yet I'm willing to spend the big Lindens on, so unless I can learn the ins and outs of sculpting in Blender, I'm not going to be satisfied anytime soon. Any tips on relatively easy avatar sculpting for a fairly well-versed 2D graphic artist would be appreciated. Oh, and I desperately want to sculpt insane shoes, too, so I could use some help there as well. Yesterday I hit the jackpot of freebie avatar collections, and promptly spent several hours trying on Furries, (yuck!), aliens, (some good, some wretched, some hilarious), and nice male avatars. A couple of people came up and pushed me around in the sandbox where I was opening my packages, which prompted a brainstorm of ways in which these exotic shapes and some fancy quick-change artistry could be used as a defense mechanism to ward off those who might see me as a potential noob victim, nya ha ha! Got some great kick fighting and more obscene animations that should come in useful as well. Is this turning into a blog? Chastise me if you're offended; otherwise, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the subject of avatars and change. I picked a nice male avatar, (looks a lot like my brother, go figure), and I spent the morning running or rather skydiving around in him, which is great fun for now. Splat! Such a gruesome sound it makes when the ^%$^%#$@#^ L$0 chute doesn't open! I still plan to find the perfectly imperfect, somewhat-less-than-well-endowed, mammaliarily speaking, ME, for my everyday activities. But limit myself when I have the entire digital universe in my sights? Never!
  7. I was in a big rush to get the initiation over with, and my usual incognito name and variation thereof where used already. So I pulled an easy and androgynous name out of the air. It never occurred to me, (I guess I missed the fine print), that it would be permanent. Oh, well, thank the powers that I had the internet savvy to steer clear of the reveal. I did immediately pick a new username, but I'm still not sure what people are seeing; Jenet Fennet is not what I would have chosen if I had thought about it first. Are both names shown inworld, or just the display name? I can live with it, either way.
  8. OK, assuming one has opened and worn a gift that seems legit, (and you would be correct to so assume), how would someone check the object out to make sure it wasn't causing mayhem without their knowledge? The gift-giver certainly seems legit on their profile: long time resident, business owner, etc.
  9. Since I already commited the sin of opening and wearing the item, how do I check to find out if it is up to no good?
  10. I just want to clarify; I was sent a skin by someone I had not met. The person who sent it has a business creating and selling skins. I wore it, it looked great. There were no pop-ups asking for money or asking to animate me. I did check the giver out somewhat and they seem very legit. Is it possible for the skin to steal from me or attack other avatars behind my back, without my knowledge? Thanks for the tips about things asking to animate you. If you do allow an object to animate you, won't it stop if you use "stop animating me"? Cab it some back on again later?
  11. OK, here's the way it happened. I was offered a skin by someone ( I had not met) who claimed to have created it, and I think they were telling me the truth. I wore it, it looked great, no screens popped up asking me for money, or asking to animate me,. The giver of the item has a store and sells skins of their own creation. Is it possible for a skin to be doing terrible things behind my back without my knowledge?
  12. All the items I received were from long time residents with active SL businesses. I honestly believe they were legal but will do some more checking.
  13. I just watched the videos on abuse and griefing, and was told never to receive or rez and unsolicited gift. Why? How is this griefing, and what kind of mayhem can be caused this way? I have received and rezzed some really nice skins and other items without any apparent problems.
  14. This was really strange. I tried to untangle my legs from his neck before I figured out what to do. I was stuck . It was more of a no-no than an awie.
  15. That was just a while ago, today. I couldn't find the post and thought it had not been posted.
  16. Yesterday I landed on someone after teleporting, and it turned into a pornographic encounter before I quickly teleported away to somewhere else; Was this accidental, or was the guy some kind of griefer? Does it happen often? (I know this question is weird, but so was the encounter.)
  17. Thanks! I couldn't find my thread and started a new one, but all is well. I didn't want anyone griefing my avatar while I was away.
  18. Does your avatar disappear from view to others when you sign out or close second life?
  19. Maybe you really are over 18 and used 16 for some other reason? (I didn't use my real info at first.) I would think you could open a new account and build a new avatar, using your ID card to access adult contect as per instructions.
  20. What happens to your avatar when you close second life? Does it disappear, or is it still visible to others online? I leave mine seated where I want to "wake up" when I reopen the program. I started to wonder about it because one place I visit has this guy just standing there, day after day. Anyway, I couldn't find the answer to this anywhere, so I thought I'd ask.
