  1. I'd like to add another suspect to the list: After spending 3 hours on a parcel with 40 other avatars, my viewer's rendering takes a dirt nap when I step into another parcel in the same region when the parcel I am entering has disabled "Avatars on other parcels can see and chat with avatars on this parcel".
  2. Another thing that really makes Marketplace frustrating for me is I don't see dates on product listings. Sure, sellers are going to scream that their stuff is timeless or that it's none of my business when it was listed. To that I say "Poo."
  3. Unfortunately, all we have access to pertaining to age are Newest First and Oldest First.
  4. So, uhm, mesh head is missing so the baked textures are showing on the base body parts? Apparently, the UV maps differ vastly.
  5. Does it have a button for "look dead and lifeless like a store mannequin?"
  6. Are those objects sending to Local Chat? That attracts Avatar attention briefly.
  7. Tip: Voice Echo Canyon takes the guesswork out of setting up your microphone for voice chat.
  8. Yes, and build a miniature of The Corn Field on your land for this HUD to drop you into.
  9. As one of the writers of that publication, I thank you for pointing out that error. I fixed it for you. There is no configuration difference between a Second Life Estate with one region in membership and one with more than one region in membership. Second Life Estates are not required to be geographic in nature, but they certainly do tend to have adjacent members. Regions belonging to different Second Life Estates can and do get placed adjacent to each other by mutual consent of the owners of the Second Life Estates in which they are members.
  10. Even one private region is an Estate. Estate is the entity one owns, and that entity is a set of one or more regions. Also, we have small Estates whose regions are, by mutual agreement, directly adjacent to each other.
  11. What the heck are you all talking about? SimTK: OpenSim: Project Home Searching opensimulator dot org for "seamless" yields little enlightenment. I too have to assume OP was referring the the feature where OpenSimulator instances can contain a region that is square multiples of Second Life's single region size. Looks to me like this is accomplished by lying to the viewer, in some exchanges.
  12. I think it would be a fun New User Experience.
  13. I don't doubt there are features in Third Party Viewers that are useful. I just choose to stay on Second Life Viewer. I have too much to lose if something weird happens. I don't expect something weird to happen, but I have learned the hard way that expectations are not preventative. Sometimes I will use a different account and computer to log in to Second Life on Cool VL Viewer just to use the "legacy" search function. My cautious nature doesn't indicate that I distrust Henry. It indicates that I distrust everybody. This is learned behavior. I hope the mentoring goes well and that any and all interference, if any, is not merely suppressed but destroyed. Again, my attitude is caused by my experiences. GOOD LUCK! Sincerely.
  14. I tried several methods. a Second Life Group; an IRC channel; ad-hoc conferences; private messages; local chat at a few locations The only method that was defensible was local chat on my own land. All this convinced me to not trust anyone and eliminated my desire to assist people with anything. I am only here in the Second Life Forum because I still attract assholes and here, they are exposed for many to see. Hey ya'll! Watch this! I refuse to use or promote Third Party Viewers and YOU CAN'T MAKE ME! What usually happens when I declare that I will not use Third Party Viewers is I get harassed and accused of slander and accused of telling others not to use Third Party Viewers. I don't drink colas either. If you call a sports team "we" when they are winning and "they" when they are losing, then you are not supporting that team. I hope this mentoring project works well, but I cannot be involved.
  15. Oh, there was a Resident-run, in-world help channel for users of Second Life Viewer. It was abandoned because of continuous "raids" and harassment by third-party viewer evangelists. Been there. Done that. BURNED ALL THE BRIDGES. I am not likely to attempt to help the general public again.
  16. Again, the term "relevant" does not mean "read my mind". The search engine is just indexing text strings. It does not have live experience and cognition. Yes, I would expect any listing that contains the two words Japanese and temple to appear in the search results, and in no particular order if they also contain other words. Google and Bing are currently returning similar results using the following search string: site:marketplace.secondlife.com Japanese temple
  17. A search engine will not know what is relevant to your desire unless you tell it. It also will not know if a product is "prims", "sculpted prims" or "mesh" unless you tell it in the product description. Likewise, a search engine does not know what these words mean to you nor does a search engine know the chronology of construction technologies in Second Life. If you don't want an old item to appear in search results, then disable the listing. Superiorly, modify the listing to clearly state what construction technology was used during the product's creation. Sometimes I want a modifiable primitive creation instead of an unmodifiable mesh creation. Additionally, you can create a link to a newer version of an old product to help shoppers find the newer version. Marketplace listings do have a place for product versions that you might also consider utilizing.
  18. Unfortunately, there is no sort option: Read My Mind. We get: "Relevance" should NOT make assumptions. It should only operate on the parameters input to the search. It would appear that what is most relevant are listings that most closely match a phrase search, followed by a sequence insensitive word search of primarily Item Title followed by Keywords and Extended Description. I have found that non-alphabetic characters are a hinderance to discoverability. If you then select a MODIFIER such as Age, Price, Name order, Land Impact, Rating or Best Selling, then those are COMBINED with the text matched relevancy to MODIFY the sequence of presentation. I would like to see an additional modifier for "What's Hot", maybe with a few time ranges to choose from. Might be interesting to be able to easily find that hot new item everybody is buying this week without having to dig for it or wait for it to percolate up the Best-Selling overall statistics. I find that I search by Merchants / Stores a lot. Just don't expect entering Merchant or Store names into Items: Keywords to be useful.
  19. Once upon a time, avatars were restricted to a region called The Corn Field as a punitive measure. A thought that amuses me, and I am taking a story from elsewhere, I am sure, probably a movie I have seen.... A mature avatar is restricted to the new arrivals' region until the mature avatar teaches the new avatar how to do things, resulting in a basic working knowledge of Second Life, after which time they are both allowed to leave the region. Please don't take this as a serious suggestion.
