  1. Tell that to the people that sell a rare they got for a higher price than a common on marketplace. I suggest you read the EU document Loot boxes in online games and their effect on consumers, in particular young consumers (europa.eu) to see exactly what is defined gambling as far as lootboxes and gachas are concerned.
  2. What difference is there from that to me looking at a wall with items for sale in an SL shop and buying the item I want. Based on your system I can spin the board unlimited times to get the item I want without paying money. Why would a person even bother with such a system, standing around spinning in frustration trying to get something that they haven't even paid for yet. Your idea is the equivalent of a single picture Casper vend system where I use the arrows to change the item and then pay for the one I want except rather than me clicking the arrow the item picture changes every 10 seconds - like some do now. LMAO.
  3. Knowing what you get is not the problem. It is that you are paying money to play at a chance (a percentage such as common, rare, epic etc) of getting a known prize.
  4. Why gacha's are counted as gambling and why LL have probably made the change was discussed already at length earlier this year in a now locked thread here: It includes links to documents of EU investigations and reports on page 14 that is being looked into for the banning and enforcement of such practices (they define SL gacha's as lootboxes - not by name) as well as many examples of how gacha's resemble lootboxes etc. I would dare say this change LL have made reflects how the EU will in all likelihood be advancing this soon to actual law.
  5. Near every country except America right now is looking at banning these systems. As to anyone convicted or lost EA, Activision etc have and have had their chance lootboxes banned in many countries. :EDIT: You are not supposed to have SPLODERS that give a random prize after a payment has been received that has been banned for many years.
  6. Why can you not understand this point Prokofy and always get it wrong. NOBODY WANTS SL TO BECOME LIKE ROBLOX. There is a difference between wanting features added to Second Life that other systems do better and more modern to advance SL beyond what it is now capable of, to modernise it to saying make SL like Roblox or x, y, z. I would love LL to update SL (like they should have years ago) and give the finger to Facebook and say "haha we already have a metaverse that is better than anything you can provide". I would love Unreal 5's optimisation system added to Second Life (it wont happen). A system where you can have 10billion polygon mesh downgraded automatically to something that doesn't lag or remove the quality of the mesh would mean wonders for Second Life which suffers from unoptimized content. Does that mean I want SL to be unreal 5? No.
  7. Sorry it was 2am in the morning when I posted that so may not have been clear. I meant in regards to their demographics. Under 18 was their target audience or main users for 15 years. This meant that a small fraction of the people playing Roblox were able to cash out. This is changing now.
  8. Your problem Prokofy is you don't actually do any searching for yourself. I only gave a few examples but you took that to mean they are the only ones 🙄 it seems you don't know what the word etcetera means. It means more examples are out there after those I listed. But seeing as you are inept in looking for yourself: All Educators (roblox.com) if you call that a few educators then you need to go back to primary school. Looking at that list many are for children but there are also many tertiary places as well now they are targeting that demographic. Looking at that number of educators I would have a guess and say it is far, far more than what SL has, they even have some in third world countries like Afghanistan! As for your pathetic comparison regarding income @Out Jinx posted some of the reason but the other reason is that Roblox has only in the last two years or so actually started to push an adult demographic. That means for the last 15 years their audience has been under 18. Now seeing as you can't use common sense prey tell, in what universe do you know where an under 18 year old the majority being under 16 has a bank account and id that would allow them to cash out their robux cash. You ask why the usd cash out is so low that is you answer. The don't cash out to kids for their creations in the millions. Additionally, I never said that Roblox's economy was the same as Second Life in regards to the amount paid. I specifically said it was a creator driven economy just like SL. I.e. You make stuff, you sell stuff for inworld currency, then you cash out inworld currency for rl cash. How is that hard to understand and how do you translate that into meaning a dollar amount. I don't want to go over there I prefer SL but want to see it grow. Just because you have no argument against anyone all you ever post is well if you don't like it go elsewhere in some attempt that that gives you brownie points. Linden Lab themselves have stated that they are looking at Roblox and how SL can compete with them. If LL themselves are closely following them why can't you accept that even LL see Roblox and their way of doing things as competition. Your arguments never change and is always: "I like sl and am fanboy therefore no improvements other than tweaks are needed therefore said person should play elsewhere". You said you were over 60 I say act your age like the rest of us and admit that sl needs vast improvements to become a metaverse which is what the topic of the thread is about. Like usual I give up talking to you like so many others do. Not because I agree with you but because it is exhausting so consider this my final post in the thread. I'm out.
  9. That is somewhat true, however there still is a real world growth strategy to Roblox. Whilst obviously not as large as "Climate Change" Tesla can attach to, it is still there. Whilst the majority of demographics Roblox has is a younger audience it is not that audience that is producing the vast majority of games or worlds and seems that that whilst young they play the games and as they get older they start making those games. This will also become more evident as they continue to update their engine. As Roblox updates its graphic's and creation engine of which, now almost equal in terms to unity etc (once they release their new avatar system), they could start to position themselves as a mini indie creation platform. The other thing with Roblox is that the creation system is taught in many institutions (both school and tertiary) to both young and older people as it uses a common script language as well as modelling. This means that it links to the game creation scene as a person gets older (gives them a base to move into that industry) with the potential to earn an income from their games as they learn ranging from $500 to the highest income of many millions. Second Life just cannot do this as both its core engine is obsolete as far as modern tech teaching goes and its scripting language is invented and on its own. Even its physics engine just doesn't really compete. It is a closed off environment from the tech industry and why it takes years for LL to update things as opposed to companies like Roblox that do it in 1/4 of the time. Roblox is more akin to Sansar where it is closed worlds where you need to download them and play. It is because of this however that it makes Roblox separate from Second Life as a whole and also allows it to grow much further as it becomes more and more like a creation engine similar to unity or unreal as opposed to second life of which has never really been a creation engine other than the first 4 years before sculpts. Compare that to Second Life and it shows how out of step and behind the times SL is to anything else. Roblox you can build a game, a house, a hangout a forest, learn to script with a modern language you can use in your career etc. With Second Life it is limited to Dress-up Barbie, Dream House Barbie and Barbie Shopping Mall and everything created for it generally cant be used outside of SL. Now if Second Life improved their engine and systems to a modern standard, used C programming instead of LSL and introduced a optimisation system that reduces lag (similar to Unreal 5's system) then LL would have the upper hand as it is still the top streaming virtual world and is more like the metaverse than all others.
  10. I dont think there will be. There is this new economic environment within the world in the last few years where money actually doesn't mean anything. A company can go on for years now without making a profit, still have an enormous stock price with money to burn and really not deliver anything. They also dont fail or see a change in leadership. Look at Tesla, they made their first profit this year of a measly $1.1 billion. Now, you might scoff at me saying $1.1 billion is a measly profit however compared to its share price of $687 Billion, it is absurd. Also keep in mind Tesla haven't had a profit (until 2021 as before mentioned) for 18 years! 18 years no profit and maintained a valuation of over half a trillion dollars on the share market, based solely on hopes and wishes that their cars will sell and made a profit only this year of $1.1b. Also keep in mind many speculate that profit was only made because they invested in Bitcoin and then sold it at its peak which also caused bitcoins price to fall. So was it actually a true profit or not? I dont think Roblox has any problem and cant see any change in the executive team. Their share market valuation is at $76.98 Billion - though is down from its peak of almost $99 Billion possibly due to the class action lawsuit they have atm. It has seen enormous growth over the past 2 years with its current executive team so cant see any calls from the shareholders to request any of them to stepdown and be replaced. Whether it can last is still unknown, however they are signing contracts with big mega corps like Sony Entertainment, of which wouldn't have done so without some faith in the companies financial position.
  11. Are we looking at the same videos? Take the Fortnite one for instance Mr Amore posted of Travis Scott. Do you seriously think you can make an avatar appear as a comet then land and turn into an avatar of the singer of which upon impact with the ground sends the avatars of those watching flying away in SL? How about having the singers avatar flicker and jumping around a region the size of 5 regions combined in Second Life with no lag? How about how the singers avatar grows to the size of 10 times what mega prim would be able to achieve? How about making the Sky dynamically change based on a time sequence every so often? Or are you suggesting EEP can do that? How about making the watching avatars teleport up in the air at a certain time and make them slide down a holographic ring that is moving to the beat of the music? None of those effects or anything in that video is possible in Second Life except the static objects. Sure you could have an avatar singing but nothing like what is in that video even if in broad strokes. The Roblox one is a little easier to replicate in Second Life as far as static objects goes but, have you ever seen an entire sim change all objects on its land to a completely different scene when an avatar jumps in the air and lands or walks away seamlessly? (the region capacity wouldn't even allow for that many objects). How about a perfectly in sync, background hologram or large 3D avatar mimicking the avatars movements perfectly? How about an avatar that seamlessly changes from one to another without loading the individual items on one at a time? How about actually doing all that in a fully populated region with no lag? You say most of all that is possible to that scale and seamlessness in Second Life? I am not talking about just a singers avatar moving around a scene either which I assume you mean by Broad Strokes. Even if you were to not have the singer as an avatar but as an animesh npc, the size of those singers and their detail would fill up the land impact limit and not allow anything else on the region to rez. Tell you what, you mimic one of those two videos in Second Life and run them with even 30 avatars watching with no lag (and all on the default Viewer) and post the reaction video of the viewers being mind blown by the scene and say that it looks like those videos posted above (both in quality, seamlessness, lag free and scale) and let me know. If you do I will say I was wrong. :EDIT: Oh and dont forget to also show how you manage to make that concert stream at the same time on 50+ regions simultaneously with avatars watching at the same time on those different regions.
  12. Unfortunately @Mr Amore, there are the usual people in these forums that just don't get what we are talking about either because they dont understand or think SL is fine as it is without any progress or the ability to compete with other platforms. All they see in their mind is us saying "SL needs to be exactly like Roblox, Fortnite etc". They just dont understand that that isn't what we are saying but instead are saying that Second Life needs to allow for better content creation to make it Grow and better communication tools etc. Like the video of Lil Nas X I posted and your one of Travis Scott. None of that content as far as scene, scripting, effects, etc is possible in Second Life. These same people dont realise that those numerous concerts have earned billions of dollars for Roblox and Fortnite just from the advertising and people signing up to enjoy them and participate. The best advertising Linden Lab can achieve is a advert they filmed back in 2019 and just released that shows next to no reason to join Second Life.
  13. To be honest I cant be bothered as you just wont listen or change your mind. But here are a few: Delaware Valley University, College of Staten Island, Harford Community College, Randolph College etc. So professional multi-award winning singers will never be in Roblox or Fortnite or anything like that according to you... I literally already gave you an example where Lady gaga did, but what about Lil Nas X, or Zara Larson? Those were all in Roblox and stated in the link I gave about Sony Entertainment which clearly you didn't read. Below is a link of his concert which was streamed in Roblox with his own Custom Avatar to over 33million people. I would like to see Second Life try and achieve that. Lil Nas X’s Roblox concert was attended 33 million times - The Verge As for others how about Epic Games' Fortnite. They have had Dominic Fike, Travis Scott, Marshmello, Kaskade, Dominic Fike, Anderson .Paak and many many others. I could go on. All these hugely popular Professional Singers that you have quite rightly said will never be in Second Life. Roblox and Fortnite however they have and are and do. Second Life cant even compete with this as the best they can achieve is 70 people in a region and cant stream over multiple regions the same thing over and over. Believe it or not most people dont want sex online. There is a reason why Second Life to this day still has a bad name with people saying "isn't that that game where you can have sex". Yet millions upon millions of people (and even LL) disagree with you. If LL are telling their staff to play Roblox to find out what they are doing for success as Patch has said, I would take that as Linden Lab are a little worried. Yes, it does in fact have an inworld economy. Robux is the currency and purchasing it with RL cash allows players to buy in-game items created by other people known as developers. These developers then earn that money of which can be transferred to RL cash. These items include avatar things (yes including bodies and heads, clothes, gestures, emotes etc), games, worlds; all the way down to a simple tree. Just like Second Life. You just cant seem to understand this no mater how many people tell you. This article explains it and surprise surprise is talking about a creator economy system and like most articles Second Life who has a creator economy system is not even mentioned as a competitor. Roblox and the Creator Economy – Data Data Data (kylascanlon.com)
  14. It would depend I would think as to what could be done. If for instance LL grow their new mobile client to more than a text chat which I would hope they are thinking of, then they would likewise need to limit it as Apple do not allow adult content on their devices either. Clearly you haven't looked at Roblox at all as, if you had you would stop saying it is only an FPS thing. You remember Second Life's old motto "your world, your imagination". It applies to Roblox as well. Your book club that you say isn't in Roblox The Official Roblox Book Club - Roblox Your education you say doesn't exist in Roblox Setting Up A Roblox Classroom Oh hey look a concert held in Roblox by famous singers like Lady Gaga One World: Together At Home Virtual Concert - Roblox Blog Cant ever recall Second Life making a deal with Sony Entertainment for Live concerts to be made in world. Here is the deal Roblox made Sony Music, Roblox Establish Partnership Here is a link showing schools using Minecraft and Roblox for teaching and education during the pandemic... Notice how Second Life isn't mentioned at all Teachers Use Minecraft and Roblox to Educate Kids During Coronavirus Pandemic - Bloomberg As for your dating thing it also takes place in Roblox. There are numerous hangout worlds and what not. You need to get past the "Roblox is a game for kids and only shooters and made of blocks" and start to realise the world is treating it like SL back in 2006 where even mega corps like Sony Entertainment are doing things in there that Second Life would only dream of seeing again. Roblox has evolved well beyond what you and others seem to think it is (was). :EDIT: As to your video comparison of sl and Roblox, Roblox has far superior graphics to sl and is not blocky at all. Some people just build there world in that style in Roblox similar to how some people build cartoony style in sl. That sl video also has so much lag that even the camera fly through was lagging. Shows just how subpar sl is to modern creation platforms. Also Roblox has stated that realistic avatars will be coming and in concerts has even provided realistic avatars to music artists. 0.7 and 0.28 in the Roblox vid you posted and other times show graphic on par if not better than sl and not blocky at all as they are created mesh made in programs outside of Roblox and imported just like sl. So once again you have no clue what you are talking about.
  15. Odd. I and others have for years being saying LL need to create a new default body so that the onboarding experience is better and easier. You on the other hand have been saying for equally as long (just like LL) that this wasn't necessary and would be bad for LL. Yet here we are LL now agreeing that is is an essential thing that needs updating for the onboarding experience. So much for you saying that ideas that I and others have stated over and over LL now agree with. Thankfully, Coffee has updated us on this and it seems once again LL disagree with you in that they are interested in getting them in. I really need to try Catznip viewer, seems to be the more forward thinking viewer as opposed to others. Still hilarious that you think that just because you claim it isn't a game it doesn't belong on consoles. If I recall you were also part of the bandwagon that said a mobile client wasn't needed. Thankfully LL think differently to you. Additionally Patch has stated that they have their developers looking at Roblox (a game) to see what learnings they can take from that to make SL better. Also since you are oblivious to this, a person can search the internet on console, watch movies on console, listen to music on console, type a document on console, skype with someone on console. But sure keep believing consoles are only for games. Linden Lab yearly income from recent leaks about $60 million-80 million. Facebook income: $86 Billion I somehow dont think Facebook will have a problem with massive scale. Right, no one likes subscriptions... Netflix: 203+ Million subscribers Final Fantasy XIV game: 20million subscribers World of Warcraft: approx. 115 million subscribers
  16. Well that is just rude. Wow 11 years. You came just when they were in the process of moving the Adult content to their own region because they wanted to hide SL being seen as a brothel. That went so well for them didn't it. 2010 when they moved it saw them loose 10k in concurrency. Who said I was under 30 and a massive gamer? I mean I wish I was under 30 but that was a very long time ago. As for being massive gamer, I played one game other than SL this week and that was for a total of 2 hours over 7 days. Such a massive gamer I am.🙄
  17. Um.. yes energy is a limited resource. You are limited by the amount of resources within the world and also limited by the time it takes to mine/process those resources to power the plants to create energy. Natural Gas, oil, clean coal, uranium, hydrogen etc., are all limited resources. Even wind and solar are limited in that you need wind and sunny days to create the energy. Also, take lithium batteries. Studies show that there may not be enough metals in the world to meet the demand Tesla alone need to make cars for their goal of 20mil per year. Cobalt is being removed from their batteries (they plan) as they cant get enough of it. Nickel is also in short supply with experts saying that to meet the Nickel demand for Tesla cars per year they would need to open another 23 new mines. Graphite is the same and they would need every year 94% of the worlds total production of it. Say good buy to anything else that uses graphite. The world processes 77,000 metric tonnes of Lithium per year yet Tesla, to build their 20million vehicles per year goal, needs 127,000 metric tonnes. There May Not Be Enough Nickel In The World For Tesla, Electric Vehicles (musclecarsandtrucks.com) Keep in mind the above is just for Tesla. That doesn't include BMW, Ford, Volkswagen, GM Motors, KIA, Nissan etc. But hey, so long as we get rid of oil to power cars, who cares if millions of kilometres of the environment is destroyed by mining. Then there was the recent report from the UK stating that in meeting their goal of all electric cars by 2030 they would not have enough electricity generation to charge all those cars. So not only do we not have enough resources for the cars we dont even have enough resources for electricity generation to power them.
  18. That is correct and was one of the main reason touted as to why they wanted to move to the cloud and why the cloud would be better. Oz stated in a Lab Gab that once things have settled with the one AWS datacentre the plan was to put it in AWS Datacentres around the world. Whether this is still the case I dont know but, I did hear a rumour that it was to expensive to do so they wont be doing it. I could be wrong though and it may still be on the cards.
  19. I have no idea what you mean by FNG's. So cant comment on that but as to the rest of your dribble... I get so sick of people saying Second Life isn't a game in somehow thinking that justifies people not sticking around in Second Life. It is not a justification it is a cop-out. You and others (including LL) say it is not a game doesn't make it so. Other than specific misguided users (and LL) in Second Life only - with a chip on their shoulder, it will always be defined by 99.9% of the world population as a game - a sandbox game. For comparison, Gary's Mod released in 2006 is a sandbox game. It is classified as a game and no one would call it other wise. It has no objectives, no manufactured conflict and is an open-ended experience (all of the reasons LL listed in 2007 as why SL isn't a game). You just build in the game and do things in the game with those builds just like Second Life. You can then have people explore or play in your creation, interact with it etc. It is also similar to Sansar which LL also went to great lengths to try and say wasn't a game. Please explain why Second Life which acts EXACTLY (can actually do far more in Gary's Mod) like Gary's Mod is not a game yet Gary's Mod is? 🙄 Gary's Mod even has almost the same daily concurrency as Second Life and before COVID was greater than SL numbers. You will obviously disagree and bring up all kinds of reasons why but, it is all irrelevant to the discussion. People do not stick around because SL isn't a game or because it has no objective. They dont stick around because it has the most complicated starting (onboarding) experience known to mankind, it lags like crazy at graphic settings that are on by default in other games/platforms/virtual worlds etc, it has a complex body system, it costs to much money to get a region/clothes/body etc. It is also true that they leave because they are bored but then so do regular users. I am a regular, been around for 18 years, but I get bored of SL too and stop playing for months or a year. Then again, I also joined Second Life when it was FAR less complex to learn and FAR more things to do inworld so I stayed because it was easy to learn and more to do. If you think "normal gameplay" in Second Life is not adult content related then you have been misguided. Sex and adult content is the largest component in Second Life. Remove the Brothel of the Internet's (Second Life) adult content (pixel sex) and I would give Second Life all of 1 year before it closes due to a massive decrease in both revenue for LL and users leaving. As to the learning. Well perhaps if Linden Lab actually made a better onboarding experience or improve on optimisation or be able to turn on shadows without dropping 30fps or create new linden water that doesn't drop your framerate by 80fps and make it so people dont lag, people may actually stay to learn. Just like the things many users on this forum have been asking them to do for years. Did I say that consoles with controllers will make SL better than it is? No. I said it would allow SL to be populated by more people.
  20. It is not that SL is considered a failure. It is that it is considered obsolete. It hasn't been updated in any form of relevance to the modern person and that is the issue. LL have refused to update the things they need to and concentrated on things 'they' think SL should have. They need to LISTEN to their userbase that doesn't just consist of those that post on JIRA or go to inworld meetings. Second Life has the barebones of what it needs to be like the oasis from Ready Player One but requires a lot of updates to make it similar. LL just dont understand what they need to do to do this however. Their world already exists, no other metaverse does. Their world already has dynamic streaming of content well before game streaming had even come to be (i.e. 2019). This is why Sansar failed, they produced a downloadable region system as opposed to expanding on their dynamic streaming system SL uses. They have the upper hand and always have they just need to see that and change to make SL seem like a new metaverse. - Chat needs modern features that people expect like emojis, gifs etc. SL chat should resemble Discord in both chat and voice. No ifs or buts and who cares what their 'existing' userbase thinks. It is what any new person and many existing users expect for a chat system. - Consoles are a thing and LL cant ignore this anymore, they are not going away and other metaverse's will use them (like roblox does) but the engine of SL needs to change to allow for this. SL needs to be on PC, PS4, Xbox, etc. Once again no ifs or buts. They are missing out on a massive demographic. In 2018 there were over 160million people in the USA alone that owned a console. - Even in the oasis (what people want the metaverse to be) the world wasn't a continuation of all other words it did use separate 'spaces' similar to how SL's private regions are. The difference is that those spaces were not restricted by one region with a border crossing but acted more like an indefinitely extending region as a person or company needed. Do you think Facebook or any other company looking at the metaverse wants to restrict a world to a small space? Allowing a region to not be restricted to a 256x256 size but being able to expand to hundreds of kilometres (like Minecraft), if needed, to create worlds (mainland's) within a world is the only solution and one that will make Second Life stand out from the rest. It is a shame LL dont concentrate on making this happen as being in the cloud it should be possible for a world to not be restricted by 256x256. If complex content is the issue add a scaler like Unreal5 that complex mesh and textures are downgraded to allow for no performance impact on the end user (of which would also make it easier to be on consoles). - As far as the map goes, why does it not use a 3D virtual space as opposed to its current 2D form. Make the map interactive. There is no need to have it show the region as a square it is boring, bland and pointless. Make it something like this: Interactive Solar System Tour | 3D Model of the Solar System (nineplanets.org) . i.e. make each region appear as a world that you can then fly through space and click the world you want to go to which then opens up the region info and a minimap similar to what happens when you click a planet in the above linked. Interactive systems like changing the map to the above linked style is what will make people come into SL and think "wow this is so cool". It would look like a true modern metaverse as it seems that way just by the map. Make it look like Second Life is part of another galaxy outside of RL. Imagine new users being able to explore second life dynamically (via a 3D map) by new planets, constellations etc. You advertise your 'region' by its world name and constellation grouping. - For anything like a subscriptions, the group join fee could be modified to make it so that you can pay a monthly subscription so that games based on subscription etc can be made. People could support your sim by a subscription method rather than a donation. - I also still dont understand why LL haven't introduced a rental system themselves. Why cant they just modify the group land system so that if you are in a group you can use the group land system to rent parcels (rather than just donate land) to other group members. - It also needs a better inworld creation system, land editing tools, paintable textures, updated coding to C+ or # rather than LSL etc. SL is 'boring' to new users because it still operates like an internet browser from the noughties. It needs systems that make SL interactive, fresh, modern and different to any other platform out their. It needs to be the metaverse and it can. It just needs, like I and others have been saying for years, for LL to think outside the box to make it unique and relevant again.
  21. It doesn't matter the point is that you have had noisy fans (and not just one that can be attributed to a manufacturer failure) in the past that were obviously so bad that you needed to replace them. I have never had a noisy fan at all and I turn my comps off all the time. To me that reads as 24/7 on means noisy fans due to wear just like most tech people state like @Sam1 Bellisserian quoted earlier. My case fans are also not ball bearing and they are not noisy. Even on my old 2008 PC I still use most days I have no fan noise and that PSU is an older 2008 model that its fan runs all the time and is not ball bearing. This shows that what you posted earlier that 24/7 running doesn't affect the pc and turning it off and on is bad is wrong.
  22. It has nothing to do with your PSU's having cheap fans, its just that your PSU's are so old that they still operate their fans all the time when powered on and you keep them on 24/7 and therefore they wear quicker and made noise quicker. My pc which I built 5 years ago the PSU fan has never run at all as it never reaches the required temp to turn it on. Not only that my GCard fans dont run at all unless on an extremely demanding game. I have also had it in the past except in summer/autumn that my AIO CPU cooler fans dont run at all unless running a graphically demanding program or rendering. 8 core CPU temp has never been over 40C and idles at 22-28C. System temp is always between 25-39 even under load and GCard sits at 27-30 most times unless running a game. Only fans that run all the time is the front and back fans at 900-1200RPM. You mentioned before your PC's runs cool under idle and load, I beg to differ based on the temps you gave.
  23. Seriously, what OS and hardware are you using to have the "It's now safe to turn off your computer"? That hasn't been a feature since windows XP and that is because you literally had to switch it off in the early years of win95. Technically you can get it to do that on windows 10 but its a long process and completely pointless. As to shutdown, of course there is a charge still going to the PC that is the same with any electrical device/cord plugged in - even your phone charger cord draws a small amount of power with no phone attached to it. Also it is no different to standby mode. Do these people you know also turn the TV off at the socket after they press the power switch on the remote control or switch their washing machine, microwave etc off at the switch as well? The negligible charge of at most 5v of anything on standby mode or being plugged in is not going to save the planet if it is turned off at the switch. As to laptops, why would you keep it plugged in if you are not using it? HAHAHA. That picture is a stock picture from getty images (as sourced) and not even a laptop its a older computer monitor.
  24. Umm.. no I have never heard anything like that. How old are your power supplies and who actually turns their pc off at the power supply switch? You do know when people say they 'turn off their computer' they mean Start>Power>Shutdown.
  25. So LGBT people aren't normal people? In this day and age I thought everyone knows you have to be very careful how you word things...
