  1. I do not know what this beta chic is can you explain to me? The 'what it is' i think the others answers greatly already. The how to get there was maybe a bit short, so here in addition: You have to enable the Grid Selector on your viewer by pressing : Ctrl + Shift +G when you are in your login screen in the viewer. This will bring up an additional field next to password and name where u can choose the grid. In this case you need to choose: Secondlife Betagrid (aditi). As location (should you have problems at the Regionhandshake) you can use Pathtest1. Once you are in you can open the map and search for sandboxes. (like mesh sandbox 22, mesh sandbox 6, and so on) and just teleport there. And as Rhakis already mentioned you have to make the Intelectual Property Tutorial again for the Aditi Grid. Schould the Viewer bring you to a blank page (there is an issue with that at the moment) - you can manually open this link here to verify for the upload: Aditi IP Tutorial Start: codewarrior | Second Life For more info about the Testgrid read here: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Preview_Grid Cheers, Code
  2. hm .. okay but that would not explain the kind of 'sharp' break between the upper and the lower leg. which is so far the only thing i can notice peaking into the eye. (so to say) i am not sure whats going on on the lower border of the pants. if thats just the shadow showing the inside of the pants or if there is like a dark rim of faces going on. and this kind of up-side-down looking lighting may be a sign for again flipped normals or at least weird angles. I sent you a friendsinvite. Accept it if you want. (makes it easier so we dont pass each other 20 times again lol)
  3. ok that sentence was prolly misunderstandable or not reaching far out enough. To clarify : those at least -looking-like prims 'beneath the mesh' (with grid textures and rulers) are the ones you are making the phyics shape from? I am trying to grasp the concept of how meshstudio defines / builds the mesh (and mesh you use as physics shape) - as far as i've seen when checking for you they create them still from prims (just as in their former sculptstudio). Meaning the prim is being used as refference where the vertices will be etc. bare with me lol, i can explain you how to make models (and physic shapes) in almost every 3D software, and explain you how to implement it into various engines or platforms. Just normally ignore those 'inworld tools' for making anything of that matter. But yet still trying / willing to help. And i'd still like to know what you see when you inspect this uploaded physics shape in the meshuploader window. Is there any noticeable offset or misplacement ? Or is it just as tight as it appears to be in the inworld view?
  4. arr snap seems u ran off again. (seen in your screenie that u were in Skidz, i'm sandbox manager there so thought i'd jump online quick to check on your pants directly.) By the looks of the pictures allone it seems that either breaks in smoothing groups, or possibly too tight edgeloops could be the cause here. Also, are all faces vertices connected or are there breaks/gaps at certain spots.?
  5. .. after some more reasearch (and to expand my former answer): this feature seems to have not been taken over into Firestorm. “Where’s the “show message when someone takes a screenshot” option?” This also doesn’t have a JIRA yet, so if you want it, you’ll need to request it. I don’t want to get your hopes up for this one, though: it’s always been more of a drama feature in Phoenix than something that people have used for practical purposes. And those are the only kinds of Phoenix features that might not be added in Firestorm. If you request it, please include an explanation of what you use it for so that it’s clear that idle curiosity about what others are doing isn’t the only reason people are interested in it. (source: http://hugsalot.wordpress.com/2011/07/06/firestorm-beta-v2-5-2-16922/ ) And after checking their current preferences page for firestorm with no entry of this i doubt this circumstance has changed.
  6. i am assuming what you mean is this: SHOW A MESSAGE WHEN SOMEONE TAKES A SNAPSHOT: Will display in local chat “User Name has taken a snapshot.” when someone on the same sim you are on takes and uploads a snapshot. *Note: Will only work for snapshots uploaded directly to LL. http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/phoenix_preferences_tab And here is the link to the firestorm preferences, http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_preferences i could not find a similar named entry so possibly this feature is gone. Or might only exist in the phoenix skinned version.
  7. what does it look like in the SL mesh importer when you inspect the physics preview ? is the physic mesh offset there maybe? (higher than the top of your box ?) I assume this screenshots shows the prims you are using to make that physics shape. It would be good to see how this one is actually interpreted (and possibly offset, or other issues) by the uploader. Could be a hint for needing a lowered pivotpoint or different shaping etc.
  8. It could either be an issue with the normal orientation, smoothing groups, or the the known issues with the AO shader ignoring smoothing. Drongle McMahon made a good entry about the AO issue here: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Mesh/Ambient-occclusion-by-viewer-ignores-smooth-shading/td-p/1828527 But yes, to help more i guess a screenie would do good. =)
  9. Yes, there are (still) issues with this field. I did a quick test (because i remember that issue from the past - to see if it's still there) and both parts of the problem still appear: - I could only save it once i reached having 40 characters left. So there still seems to be some odd discrepancy in the counting. - And yes once again, the Policy text is cut down after saving. This problem had already appeared back in 2010 when we all migrated to marketplace 2 : https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/WEB-2297 and was closed as resolved. (https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/WEB-3406) Since september 2012 there is a new case opened : https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/WEB-3406 and signed as aknowlegded - means they are working on it. Only solution for now seems to be what i believe most of us did: make your policy as short as possible so it fits within this limit. And put other infos into some of the other fields and just refer to them. Not the most comfortable solution, but seems until they fixed it it's the only one.
  10. Does exactly what it says - sculpting the UVmap's vertices (shaping and moving them in a freeform kind of way, of course on 2 dimensional space) Here is the link to this feature's wiki: http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:Ref/Release_Notes/2.62/UV_Tools (bottom of the page) To agree on what Rahkis Andel said "A cool little feature I never use" The fursthest i go away from moving them verts around manually is to run a relax over a certain area. I want them in order, those little virtual-slave-dots, there is no space in this world for them to move freely ! èé But joke aside, it might be a nice thing to play with for certain tasks.

  12. I am not sure how far the capabilities of mesh studio are reaching. I am exclusively using 3D Software for years (Blender, Max, 3Ds etc ) to create my models and wouldn't want to miss these =) Since i don't know how exactly mesh studio converts the prims into actual mesh data i can only give some general pointers. Some solutions could be: - to offset the pivot point of the physics shape. (so that it is placed deeper / on a lowered Z value) - to make the physic shape a tiny bit being a tiny bit smaller then the original meshs outter shape. - check if the physics shape of the object is set to prim - the physic shape should in best cases be a very simple form of your mesh's shape, try to make planes (quads / polygons) if mesh studio offers that capability - change the thickness value - when you import the dae files you made with mesh studio check in the uploader window of SL how the physic shape looks (is it maybe too far offset around the mesh's shape, or shows any other oddieties) - enable this preview by setting the options below the preview window to physics. - If the physic shape made with mesh studio appears to create a problem on this object try to use the uploaders object simplification : http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Mesh/Decomposing_a_mesh_for_physics_shape. Some more helpfull links regarding mesh studio and physics in general: - http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Making_Mesh_Physics - * - https://sites.google.com/site/tamaproducts/home/mesh-studio * With Mesh Studio, you could make everything invisible, on a copy of your linkset, and just make visible the faces that will be used for collision. This simplifies your mesh for physics and then you can follow the information in the Cel Edman videos when you upload it with your Collada .dae file. Cheers, Code.
  13. pocket metaverse support: http://www.pocketmetaverse.com/support/ Send support requests via email to support@pocketmetaverse.com . In order to best diagnose the problem, particularly if you are experiencing an application crash, we ask that you provide as much information as possible. Please include your model of device (iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS, iPad, iPhone 4, iPod Touch) - see thisWikipedia list of iPhone and iPod Touch models for more information. Also, please indicate whether you are using WiFi, 3G, or Edge as your data service while using Pocket Metaverse. In addition, on your device, tapSettings, then select General, and then select About, and find and provide us with the values for Network,Available, Version, Carrier, and Model (not all of these may be displayed, just provide the ones that are). 15. ...Ok Drake, as you're such a nice guy I made my best in front of a mirror to make a drawing for you... that one got me laughing wildly ! thanks lol =)
  16. I would like to forward you to this link to see if your laptops hardware meets these criteria: http://secondlife.com/corporate/sysreqs.php Even though you didnt provide a lot informations on what specifications and hardware your laptop has; But the info hat your laptop runs vista could indicate that it is already a bit older and possibly the mobile graphic card does not meet the criteria to run secondlife anymore, or your graphic drivers might need an update. Mobile graphic cards can in general be a bit tricky, also with newer hardware. So please make sure to check out this link. Cheers, Code.
  17. lol ! (even though i prolly shoulnd't laugh on this one.. i tend to mistype it that way: tearduckt or tearduck.. a crying duck ??? i have no clue why i make that typo ... ) And sure, bother me.. ^^
  18. Oh god 'those far away times' *nods* (even though based on their location - i.e.. some living far out on countryside - some people still do) I do recall I read last year something about AOL still having, just in America alone, around 2,5 - 3 million people using dialup.
  19. Not an answer, but just got a smile by contemplating the advantages of a 'ghost partner': Nobody wanting anything from you, and perfect protection against the 'flirty' ones.... hmmmm ... ; )
  20. Those nails have been most likely either texture layers, or attached objects. If you can not find them try this: use the search function in your inventory and search for names related to 'nail, nails, polish' etc Once you found them you can choose wear or add by rightclicking the item in the inventory. Or did you mean you have been choosing them from i.e. the gloves section in editmode and then choosing a certain texture? (this texture u could also try to search in your inventory) here some infos on how to use your inventory: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Using-your-inventory/ta-p/1370823 PS: also it might just be a temporary issue and the items are just not completely loaded in your inventory - a relog (leave SL and close it, and then reopen and log back in) or cleaning of your cache could fix it. Choose Me > Preferences. Then Click the Advanced tab. Click Clear Cache - Exit and close SL - Restart SL, wait a moment until your inventory has fully loaded again.
  22. Often writers offer a precompiled version of blender along with their patch. But yeah the one you got didn't seem to work. All his file links contain just the .patch file (and the link to the compiled version is not valid anymore) So as you probably already found out. (and to answer the question 'how to install that patch'): You have to deal with the source files and 'build' Blender along with this patch. It is stored in a SVN tree. (here: http://www.blender.org/download/source-code/ or here http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:Doc/Tools/SVN_checkout_and_usage ) It's basically what the other people there did too after he announced: he hasn't gotten around to make a new build of blender yet. To help with this subject: U need a program called patch. But I think you can also use Tortoise SVN. http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:Doc/Process/Patches (blender wiki on patches) http://www.blender.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19639&sid=a361565c05c60380bc83e1a3e0e5f65a (info on 'patch') http://tortoisesvn.net/ (link to Tortoise SVN)* * with Tortoise, as far as i remember you can rightclick the patchfile in the explorer and choose to 'patch' a target file with it (Blender). It integrates into the File- Explorer. Commits are separated into 'trunk' or 'branches'. This is where patches can be made and run / tested. A Patch is a textfile that contains the differences between the raw version and the patched version - so to say. The program called patch is what is keeping track of the changes in the code and adjusts them. Windows does not have something like this on board. But here is a link to several helpful tools: http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages.html Once you know how to compile it http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:2.5/Doc/Building_Blender/Windows (How to build Blender on Windows) just run patch with a '.diff' file on the Blender source code. (command: patch -p0 < patch_file.diff ) Another Solution: Maybe post in the thread and ask if he has an updated compiled version to offer. Cheers, Code!
  23. maybe you mean something like a landing platform ? That would just be something people build on the spot where they have set the teleport point / landing point for incoming users in an area. But yeah your message is unfortunately a bit hard to understand and makes it not very easy to help or suggest something
  24. I definitely think you are exactly on the right track. I bet they simply forgot to add a reset in the script in order to refresh the llGetOwner. Or anything else related to that. And yes to the idea of the creator at least trying to buy one of the vendor or marketplace items in order to check if there is anything wrong. It might be ignorance or maybe just being inexperienced - something, one can only guess.
  25. By "changing the broken glass" you mean you exchanged the the LCD screen of your laptop? Just a guess but it may be that your OS set back to the default standard drivers when noticing the new hardware. Or other similar related issues. (maybe check in your system settings which driver is the active one being called (in case of windows being your OS - since you have given very litle information: Start>System Information>Components>Display )
