  1. Interesting. Thanks for the info. I backed down to 353.62 and things are a bit more stable but I haven't tried returning to "High" graphics settings which is what I've always run at in the past. Another thread suggested running nVidia Inspector which I am now doing. It shows some interesting things -- most of which I have no clue about lol. One thing it shows is that the default settings for Second Life (which apparently most SL viewers force permanently onto whatever graphics settings you may have) have: Multi-display Performance Mode = on. -- I turned this to Single display Power Management - Prefer max performance = on -- No Change Vertical sync = Let 3D app handle -- I changed this to force on. I'll let you know if these work. Here is the related thread: https://community.secondlife.com/t5/Second-Life-Viewer/Second-Life-and-nvidia-drivers/td-p/2958144
  2. It appears that Singularity changes the driver profile permanently too but Cool VL Viewer does not. That said, Cool VL Viewer & Windows 10 don't seem to play as well together as Singularity does. Not that that's saying much because nothing SL related is playing well with Win10 for me. And this does seem kinda stupid. Certainly messes up things when you're not running a graphics intensive program.
  3. Yes I tried doing a clean install of the nVidia drivers but no luck. And now Windows 10 has started to mysteriously just lock up with no error message when I run Cool VL Viewer. I think it's not ready for prime time.
  4. Ugggh. Downgrade sounds like the only choice since I don't have another computer that can run SL.
  5. That's interesting. I downloaded the Nvidia Inspector and mine does the same thing. Base Profile has Second Life attached to it and the settings are as you point out. I wonder if that's part of what's causing my crashing?
  6. I use Cool VL Viewer, Singularity and the official LL viewer. All three of them are crashing horribly since I upgraded to Windows 10. I've updated all the drivers (nVidia GTX 460 SE2), I've got plenty of RAM (16GB) and everything seems to be running cool. Usually the error I get is a Kernel Exception 3 in Open GL although occiasionally it's some kind of TLD error 7 thingy. Generally, the SL LL standard viewer simply poofs while Singularity & Cool VL Viewer cause my system to generate the above error reports. Is anyone else seeing this sort of behavior? Any suggestions? I'm thinking of trying a clean install of Windows 10. Snick
  7. No I'm not kidding. As a goof, a friend of mine and I just started an inworld group for avatars with the "real" last name of Snook or derivitaves such as Snookums. There is no purpose to the group other than to chat and have fun with titles. If you wish to join, please contact Speelo Snook or me (Snickers Snook) via IM for an invite! Yeah there's only 3 of us in it but who knows? Today just a couple of Snooks, tomorrow the Virtual Universe! 8. Wow am I having deja vu all over again with this. Zindra, adult content, lather, rinse, repeat. Linden Lab constantly amazes me at every turn. Just ignore the people who really pay the bills (regular users) and make things impossible for the little guys. Why not just say "No more gaming. No more fun. We're closing the SL grid down and selling what's left to Sony or nVidia or somebody. Oh and by the way, your real names are going to be sold to the highest bidder." To quote Forrest Gump - "Stupid is as stupid does." So long and thanks for all the fish.

  10. I've been working on this for awhile and finally got around to finishing it up. Essentially it's sort of a "how to" if you want to do the petite / micro / pixie avatar thing. Non-commercial, system agnostic, etc. http://snickitty.blogspot.com/2014/03/guide-getting-small-petite-micro-avatars.html Hope it helps...someone. :-)
  11. Yay. Duchess Eccen joined Hirilorn queendom and my line. Plus Hirilorn has moved to #11 in the monarchy standings!
  12. FWIW, my first interactions with Ebbe Altberg (he really should be Alt Linden) were very positive on Twitter. He took the time to engage many of us, responded knowledgably about the poor newbie experience and other issues, and above all, seemed much more interested in his "customers" than the previous not-so-humble CEO. I am cautiously optimistic but I've had my heart broken before. :matte-motes-wink-tongue:
  13. I think I'm one of the few left around who is Trout Recreant Certified®.
  14. Hiya Jumpy! Nice to see you in SL again (and on Twitter). <jumpmode> You has dah you-neeks stylez. </jumpmode>
  15. Whether you're a newbie looking for something to while playing with inventory or an experienced Tiny Empires player, the Queendom of Hirilorn and the very awesome line of Snickers are here to help! For newbies, Tiny Empires is a HUD-based game kind of like a medieval Farmville. You accumulate land and build things to increase the gold production from your land. The goal is to improve your rank from Peasant to Prince or Princess and maybe ultimately a Queen or King. All the while you have fun interacting with your friends in the queendom, answering riddles, buying/selling acres, and so on. Yes you have to buy a HUD from the game's creator but you can try it out for free for up to two weeks. For experienced TE players, Hirilorn is in the top 15 and we are low-key, friendly, fun, silly and very supportive. We don't take the game too seriously but we are serious enough to always do land tracts, announce and plan for trader and alchemist visits, and help our players through dungeon quests. We also have our own SIM with lots of fun stuff to do including Greedy and we typically host a DJ'd party or event about every 2 weeks. So if you're looking for a new place to park your acres and enjoy the Tiny Empires weirdness, we're a great option! For more info, feel free to contact me in world or send me a PM. 16. Lumiya is awesomesauce! Yes it might be a bit rough on your phone bill if you don't have a lot of bytes available but that's SL for ya. Lumiya is the only way to go for Android.
  17. This was actually reported to me by Tempus Heart after he read an article I'd written about Alpha Sorting on my blog. To make a long story short, the bug causes textures with some range of 87% to 99% black to go completely black when in the presence of some (unknown) amount of fully transparent pixels. The two of us messed around with various combinations of transparency and sort of whittled it down as outlined below. Very esoteric and most likely something going on with SSB. My blog post details it: http://snickitty.blogspot.com/2013/11/weird-transparency-alpha-in-second-life.html And so does the JIRA I filed: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-4601 It causes major problems with prim clothing, mesh and other objects (like stained glass).
  18. What a lot of clubs don't realize is that endless host and groupie gestures really make for a poor experience - especially for newbies. They force normal chat off the screen to the point where if you do say hi to someone publically, their answer is probably 30 lines of text down buried in ALL CAPs.
  19. I think it's remakarble that Lumiya does as much as it does on very limited hardware. With a good connection, I can even interact with my Tiny Empires HUD. Building and other complex activities really should be reserved for full blown viewers. I'd hate to see Lumiya get bloated to where it interfered with the basics.
  20. Oh wow, I  WOTE! Best indy band ever!
  21. They look like Chia Pets that haven't been watered.
  22. AR under a different category such as Sexual harassment if it's Goonsquad stuff. If needed, name Governor Linden as the abuser. I have discovered that Premium support, which used to respond to and relay all out griefing attacks, is no longer doing so. There are some helpful tips in this thread: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/General-Discussion-Forum/Major-UPDATE-ON-Spamming-and-capping-your-IM-chat-LOC-chat-is/td-p/1950351
  23. Hee! An old friend of mine in SL built his own Cafe at the End of the Universe a few years ago. It was very cool and included space ship docks, a few flying saucers in the port, a small dance club and the cow.
  24. That's partially true but the situation shouldn't be allowed to exist in the first place. Yes, time may solve it but in the meantime, real damage has been done to the original (and still operating) club. Consider too, that if it were a shopping location, gamed traffic, to move yourself higher in search, wouldn't be spotted as easily. For example, Shop X with 10k in real traffic could appear just as active or inactive as Shop Y with 2K in real traffic and 8K in unregistered bot traffic. Shop Y could basically continue this way forever since its business won't be dependent on having live hosts, DJ's and real club goers for interaction. Linden Lab PROMISED merchants that they would deal with this garbage but it's clear they haven't.. The AR system mostly works for things like obnoxious signage, parcel intrusion, griefing, etc. that can be taken care of with a quick visit by the outsourced support (especially if you have premium). But where tier might be reduced, I suspect it's very broken on purpose.
