  1. Yes we know that. In my case it was a shape. But I have seen it in some of the outfits I've made. From scratch. My own textures. Etc. I think their inventory databases are just horribly messed up. If for some reason people couldn't take their creations to other grids, I think it would cause wholesale builder flight and/or people would stop making things.
  2. Gosh I would love to report this post for "inappropriate content". Sadly, condescension, disingenuousness and disdain for the customer are now the norm for "community standards" so I'm sure it wouldn't be successful. I think the real truth is more likely "we're cheap and we don't want to supply free server space so let's spin it to make it sound warm and fuzzy." LL would earn more respect if they just said "we're short on cash and can't afford the bandwidth." Bleh. Linden Lab wrote: Having seen the feedback in this thread and elsewhere about the plan for SL9B celebrations, we wanted to elaborate a bit about why we’ve decided to focus on promoting numerous events hosted by the community this year, rather than hosting a centralized celebration as we have in the past. We want to give the Second Life community more control over the celebrations and to put the focus of the events where we think it really belongs: on you – the landowners, the creators, the artists, the DJs, the musicians, the venue managers – the people who make Second Life great every day. Many of you have invested both time and money in your own venues inworld, and we think the SL9B celebrations are a good opportunity to introduce new people to the work you’ve put into cultivating a community presence inworld (rather than potentially drawing traffic away from your region to a central event). A collection of decentralized events and exhibits means that not only can many more creators participate, but it should also help us to avoid some of the performance challenges that have lessened the fun for attendees at past SL Birthdays. As many of you have pointed out, there are pros and cons to the approach we’re taking this year, just as there have been in the past, but we hope you’ll choose to participate and enjoy the celebrations.
  3. If he moves to California and declares himself a religious organization, he could probably run his bingo game. But only on his church's land and only for his church's benefit. No one else can take a cut. I wonder if virtual land counts as land ownership in California? Heh. :matte-motes-wink-tongue:
  4. Linden Lab can take your land, steal your $L, remove your IP and kill all your Meeros, PlantPets and baby horses with impunity if they so choose (see TOS and other legalese). They have proven their willingness to do it too -- time and time again (Zindra, homesteads, etc.). Anyone who thinks they can make a REAL business under those circumstances is kidding themselves. It's especially fruitless in the very gray area of gaming that pays a percentage to the house.
  5. The era ended a few eras ago. Now we're just waiting for Godot.
  6. This brings back bad memories for me of the whole Zindra fight. Stupid, stupid, stupid. I means seriously, these are cartoony pixels we are talking about.
  7. Nice quiet water SIM with quiet neighbors and high-quality builds nearby. Cute little triangle shaped lot protected on 1-side by Linden water. Sail anywhere. Great sunsets and sunrises. Entire lot can be terraformed above water. $2500 (less than $5L/m) Property nearby is currently listed at $30L/m or more. 512 M 117 Prims http://slurl.com/secondlife/Alope/247/185/21
  8. Nice parcel in very quiet SIM (Alope) with good neighbors. No ugly builds. Protected one-side by Linden water. Open large water on other two sides. Lot can be terraformed above water. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Alope/244/187/16 IM me if interested.
  9. For listening to your customers with respect to JIRA SVC-7748: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-7748 \o/
  10. Read my post carefully again. There are several OPTIONS in it. The Marketplace Delivery folder is coming whether you like it or not. It's a function of direct delivery. How LL actually implements it is what's at issue. Changing the default to 2 days on the Recent Tab MIGHT help a little but I suspect not much. If the Recent tab blinked or something when there were items shown via the filter, that might help. The survey that LL pushed to all those responding in the big thread appears that the solution being considered is sort of what I proposed with the additional granularity to make it somewhat more useful. HOWEVER, Kitty's JIRA is spot on: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-7748 RLV (not that I use it) and similar inventory give behaviors MUST be respeced regardless of how the Received Items folder works. It will break too much existing and normal content.
  11. OK now THAT is the RIGHT answer. Finally! FWIW, I replied to the survery as follows: Yes it's possible to make changes. Here's how (options): 1. Get rid of the feature entirely. 2. Make it as per original intent -- for marketplace purchases. 3. If you want to make it do more, then Received items must have greater granularity. Perhaps some subfolders in it? Such as: Marketplace Purchases Lost & Found New objects I create Things received from scripted objects New inworld purchases Things others give me Regardless of what you do, items that I rez (whether I copy, modify or simply take back) MUST go back into their original folders. I'd now add to this -- individual items that come in (like clothing, textures, etc.) should continue to go to their appropriate defaults. OR, they could go to new granular subfolders or sub-sub-folders under Received Items. I'm not sure which is better for new users. The Recent Items view tab argues in favor of them going to their original defaults however, I understand the lure of a Received Items folder (just not the way it was implemented).
  12. Well said Darrius. Unless CTL actually makes this work as they first started off to do (Marketplace only items), the described implementation should be scrapped. And your main point about listening to customers and basing Lab actions on the feedback vs. paying lip service (aka lying) is right on.
  13. This is a horrible idea Oscar. Without granularity, it will only make a mess of inventory and things will be even more confusing to people than they already are. If you're serious about this feature, it should be broken into: Marketplace Items (new folder) New objects created by me (new folder) Objects rezzed and copied (leave as is - go back to original folder) Lost & Found (leave as is) Objects received from other people (new folder) Objects received from scripted objects (new folder or leave as-is) Purchased objects (new folder or leave as-is) Otherwise, if this is not possible, simply leave everything alone and add the special Marketplace Items folder as originally announced by CTL.
  14. MartinRJ Fayray also closed another JIRA item and changed the status on a few others so I suspect you are right -- he/she is a Linden alt -- and quite the snarky one at that.
  15. OMG! Consolidating all received items into a single folder is just another Objects folder mess waiting to happen. For this idea to really work, you need a few more discrete folders. Marketplace Items, Purchased Items (as in in-world), Build Items and Returned Items or something along those lines. I think I'd rather live with the current setup and have only Marketplace items go into a discrete folder than mashing them all up.
  16. I see how it's an exploration more about Depth of Field and getting things sort of surreal looking but that belongs more in a tutorial or example of work than as a login screen photo.
  17. Could be. It probably is better suited to a tutorial on focus than it is to being a login photo as an example of the wonders of SL. And oh goodie, this was my first post that was removed for moderation! Yay! But then it got restored so yay to that too!
  18. Maybe Linden Lab is deliberately giving each of us the chance to feel superior or something. But this particular login photo really does not show off Second Life very well. The poses are, well, stiff. The guy looks like he has a rod up his .... and what is she doing with her legs??. And sit poses and babydolls just don't mix. Finally, the avatars kinda look like IMVU imports. Is that a bowl of cereal on top of the books? Or maybe it's just me being hyper-critical. Nahhhh. I think Linden Lab can do better. Don't you?
  19. The bottom line for me in any discussion about SL is retention and LL has really done nothing to address that over the last two years. They are infected with feature-itis as if that will cure the problems. I think it's the natural response of engineers. It can all be solved through code. Well hmmm actually it can't. Rebranding (James Wagner Au has some good thoughts on this). In-world live help (bring back the mentors). Make "Search All" actually return relevant results. Give everyone who signs up a stash of non-transferable $L (oops a feature) or maybe a bunch of gift cards to selected stores. Do SOMETHING to restore the in-world shopping experience (no clues here). And yes, revisit The Viewer interface for yet one more time. And give me an official LL Android, iPhone, tablet, whatever app scaled to the capabilities of the platform. Is all this too much to ask?
  20. Great post! They also gave us bears and watermelons.
  21. The prognostications are in! Based on 66 votes, roughly equal numbers think the Second Life economy is going to be better, worse or about the same. Which probably means "about the same". :)
  22. Oops!!! If you voted in my poll, please go back to the blog and revote. I worded the original question poorly and wasn't getting to where the Second Life economy is headed. So the new question is a bit more succinct. I hope.
  23. If you voted in my poll, please go back to the blog and revote. I worded the original question poorly and wasn't really getting to what people felt about where the Second Life economy is headed. So the new question is a bit more succinct. I hope.
  24. I am considering a 6950 or 6770 or similar to replace my old nVidia 9500 GT. A couple of my techie friends are real AMD fans and say that AMD-based cards are better price/performance than nVidia. BUT, I've also been around here long enough to know that many people think nVidia is better for SL than AMD (ATI). UPDATE: I have a decent PC -- It's an AMD Quad core something with 6gb of RAM on Windows 7 Home Premium. The one lacking thing is the PCIe is 1.1 16x not 2.1. It has a 600 watt power supply.
  25. It's on my blog. http://snickitty.blogspot.com/2012/01/poll-about-second-life-economy-for-2012.html
