  1. What about his blanket statement that they weren't? My counter to that was basically, "it was a pain because someone found it to be a pain" and that someone was me and some of the people I knew at the time. My response to you was that I felt it was strange that... Presumably me having a feeling is OK with you? Do you have a point?
  2. Yeah, no. if they started putting a covenant on mainland that would make me want to sell my own decent chunk of mainland.
  3. Show me the certification for all the things you have asserted over the years first. Oh and if you read carefully you would see that I put "I don't find my alpha HUD a pain". It wasn't a statement about anyone else.
  4. If that's Maitreya then the scripts are out of date in the product and the vendor should update them to the latest which many don't and that's on them for degrading your experience with their product. It's a handful of clicks to get everything back to normal before you put on something else. It's way over the top to call it "a HUGE pain" in my opinion. It's a minor annoyance at its very worse.
  5. I'm not seeing this issue where the objects aren't being sent as far as I know. One of the objects that commonly doesn't render for me is the mesh building of my hangout. If I were experiencing this server side issue, I would rez in and fall to the ground which is about 40m. As it stands currently, it renders correctly after one of the corrective actions mentioned before.
  6. That's not an apples-to-apples comparison though. An apples-to-apples comparison is that either the clothing comes with autohide built-in or the vendor includes an autohide object to wear. In this comparison the actions needed are the same, you add them. The apples-to-apples comparison with making an autohide save stick yourself is to make the alpha mask asset yourself including texture.
  7. Strange because I also dress this way some of the time but somehow a couple of extra clicks that I might sometimes need after I've changed outfits doesn't make me feel the way you do. It would be even stranger if an allegedly more painful process was the one I preferred. Perhaps it's just a symptom of your crankiness. Hopefully it will pass soon.
  8. I'm going to be able to have differently alpha'd arms too.
  9. The wording I used was from Scylla's post, I cannot claim it as my own. However, a person can semantically try to define their way around any opposing point of view and try claim mistakes on the part of another but in the end that's just playing word games and shenanigans. What's actually important here is not semantics but what solution wins out. History is replete with technically excellent things that failed vs. supposedly less excellent ones. For example: VHS vs BetaMax. In the end being technically excellent isn't the most important thing. The market chooses for a variety of reasons of which the technical excellence is but one facet of it. BTW I'm glad you finally admit that masks are a pain. I don't find my alpha HUD a pain after all these years. Click, click, click and I'm done for pretty much everything.
  10. I've seen this happen in its various forms for a long, long time. Certainly happened before the server switch. It doesn't happen very often to me. Sometimes a right-click fixes it, sometimes not. Sometimes going into wireframe mode and back fixes it (this has been the quickest most successful way to fix it for me), sometimes a teleport out and back fixes it and sometimes nothing but a relog fixes it. It's most noticeable when shopping because the items colours have gaps or are missing completely.
  11. A different perspective is that the right approach is the one that wins out. It really doesn't matter if we personally don't like it and I know there are things I don't like but nevertheless have won. This has happened for a number of other things besides alpha cuts despite there being a "right" way intended by LL (really are we that surprised?). A few examples of things not done the way LL intended: Skins which aren't an all in one skin asset but instead mostly tattoos now. Not even using the new universal asset as intended by LL when BoM was introduced. Post-BoM Appliers. HD appliers dominate for head makeup despite BoM. An new emerging de-facto standard for head uv maps (Evo X) to replace the SLUV. It's not the fact that a new uv map is being used that is significant because alternative uv maps have been made before. It's the fact that it is becoming a new de-facto standard that is significant. Even mesh body parts. Even today the only general purpose body/head that LL provides is the system one. I'm sure there are more. So I think facts bear out that the "right" LL way isn't always the successful way in the end. LL have been led by creators to the new avatar customisation technologies that won, not the other way around. I'll even be so bold to suggest that if the creators had only stuck to the "right" LL way, user retention may have been far worse. Finally, Maitreya stayed on top because they didn't remove the features in their quest for "the right LL way" that many of their users still wanted whilst still making improvements. It's that simple.
  12. It is strange to me but not in a huge dramatic "OMG, you people are soooo strange" kind of way. Just strange even though I understand the reasons and of course me finding it strange is definitely no reason for people to not do it. To each their own.
  13. I think that because for the longest time, "basic" meant one thing and "premium" meant another with an easy to explain delineation that it now puts "plus" into a difficult spot. It's parts of both and so it's also neither one thing nor the other. If it had been called "basic plus" it would have set the expectations better in some ways but it could have also have had the effect that some might say "I'm not paying for basic, basic should be free and I'm especially not paying that much for more basic". If LL had called it "premium light" for example, it would have set expectations that more perks that were previously premium only should be part of it. I think that is why they probably just called it "plus" to try to avoid creating a situation where some feel that it should have been more for the price (which is a perfectly reasonable stance) but I'm not sure that the naming strategy worked that well. It's really a difficult call when trying to figure out what something like this should be called. The naming and issues with expectations would all be resolved if it were all a choose your own buffet. There would be no basic or premium levels, just a subscription and you add the bits you want and call it what you want. If you want a Linden home, you add one in, you want "premium" sandboxes, you add that in too. As long as a la carte doesn't just become an excuse to raise prices, it would be much better place to land than where we are currently.
  14. I've always thought it quite strange that we have this fantasy world which can be anything but people allow this slice of the real world into it by syncing it with the real world seasons. In the southern hemisphere we are coming into summer currently so those that track the seasons in the northern hemisphere wouldn't match anyway. However, I decorate according to the look I desire rather than by a particular season. That can mean it looks like one season or another when no part of the real world is in the season normally associated with how it looks and means it can stay that way for a longer or shorter time than a real world season would be.
  15. Perhaps things are different in the geographical region where you buy but where I am you cannot buy brand new Nvidia 1660 or 20x0 cards. Generally once the new generation of cards is available the older ones are discounted and sold off quite quickly. From that point only cards from the latest range are available and usually at roughly the same prices as the older cards, except when prices were hiked due to crypto-mining which seems to have abated now. So when you said a new mid-ranged card, I thought that would be true for you too and you would have to get a new one from the 30x0 range. It really wasn't about RTX at all.
  16. It's all good from my side too. I can almost feel the pain myself. It's definitely daunting. All of those HD lips and eye makeups are appliers, the only difference from before is that it is HD. There are even several smaller onion-skin layers so they can be blended. Unfortunately because most creators of makeups like the larger HD area (a 1024x1024 texture just for lips and another for the eye area) to paint in, the majority of makeups I've seen for Lelutka heads are not BoM but HD appliers. EvoX BoM doesn't give them the same space because the lips and eye makeup area share the 1024 texture with the head so they are not even close to the same resolution. It's funny because all the wailing and gnashing of teeth about the non-HD appliers and the forecasting how BoM would save the day. For EvoX heads it isn't really much different from before. If bodies go the same HD way, appliers will be back in force there too I predict as BoM just doesn't have the texture space for a major upgrade. I think Nux is a good thing too, it's a very positive step forward from LL. I just think it might not solve as many of the issues as it might have done when we were all using SLUV. You don't come off as anything except having a robust discussion with me and I hope I do as well.
  17. It'll only be a leg-up if the person is OK with the defaults and presets that are offered with the bodies otherwise they will want to change it which will mean having to learn that. We'll have to disagree on this. It may seem that way to us but I've seen people struggle with things we think of as easy. Nothing can be taken anything for granted whether we are talking brand spanking new accounts or a little bit later when those accounts start to try and tackle these aspects of customization. I've seen people buy skin appliers and get frustrated when they don't work because they don't understand that they are for a specific body or head and won't work with the system body/head. Some don't even know that there are specific bodies or heads at first. They don't even know that bodies and heads are sold separately. I've seen people buy shapes and confuse them with skins and vice-versa. Same with skins and bodies. Some people throw a lot of money at buying avatar parts in their early days without realising these compatibility issues exist and then lose interest when they realise that what they bought was useless. The terminology is confusing. EvoX is a head type, a HUD head mode, a uv map type and branding. For example: some HD appliers are branded as EvoX, even though they work in both Evo and EvoX mode but will not work with another EvoX compatible head from another company whilst the BoM layers do but only work in one mode or the other, not both. People getting their heads/bodies to match causes a lot of angst, now they have to try to figure out why their ears don't match too. The list goes on and that's just what I've come across from new and not quite as new people and I'm pretty sure these are fairly common types of issues. Not all of these things are because of EvoX but my point was that now it's more complex than before, not simpler. It doesn't matter if it is a lot or by not much (which is very subjective anyway), it is heading in the wrong direction.
  18. Time will tell on that but it isn't in question that this aspect of avatar customisation is now more complex than it was before EvoX and in my opinion that doesn't help.
  19. Pretty sure for a lot of new people it won't work like that though. Probably a lot will quit if it's too complex and LL is trying to simplify things for new people but they still just seem to get more complex by the day.
  20. That's also quite possible but also raises the complexity of understanding how to use them and what to shop for, for newbies. They'll need different skins for SLUV/EvoX in order to utilise both modes properly.
  21. It's gone beyond a single creator though as evidenced on other creator's heads. Quite possibly in the future the EvoX UV will be the only standard that will matter unless something else happens along. Even today at all events and most popular stores EvoX BoM is so prominent that it eclipses all other BoM for heads which probably means failure to adopt it means failure.
  22. Your system is running an unsupported version of Windows from SL and Nvidia point of view. If you try to buy a series 30x0 or later Nvidia graphics card then you will find you need to have Windows 10 for the card to work.
  23. This raises an interesting point. Are the Nux heads going to be using the EvoX UV map or the SLUV? It's going to cause problems either way now that much of the market is oriented to EvoX and now that appliers seem to be rising again for at least heads. One step forwards and three steps backwards for simplicity for newbies which ever way you look at it.
