It sounds to me like your inventory might not be fully loading, which is a common problem.

Clear your cache and log out.  When you log back in, change the start location to a different sim - a nice quiet one like Furball or Chalvez.  Your inventory should slowly reload, and when it has done so fully, try again to wear the item.

You can also try doing a character test.  "ctrl" "alt" "D" pressed simultaneously will bring up the Advanced menu, from which you can select Character, Charater Test, Test male/female. This will take your avatar back to "factory settings", but your inventory will remain intact.

Please note, it is very unlikely that something has been removed from your inventory because of copybot issues. That is just scaremongering.  It is, however, more possible, that your issue is because of corrupted cache, or because of the maintenance work Linden Lab have recently been carrying out on servers that has been affecting inventory.
