Mesh heads remind me of Deep Fakes

I came across this Deep Fake video in my feeds today and it made me come up with an interesting analogy. Going from a system head to a mesh head and continuing to use the original skin is similar to a Deep Fake video. A deep fake is when you plaster a face onto someone else's head. The video below features the face of Clint Eastwood plastered over Paul Hogan:

 

It's Paul's voice, body language (AO), main body, hair and ears that remain the same.

In SL the transferal is less precise, but when done properly you are recognizable.

   I remember a paid service within SL where you could submit a photo of your real face and have it mapped onto the system avatar head. The location might have been called Avatar Island or something like that. I didn't really have a lot of faith in how well that process would work.

For me and one other person I spoke to randomly in SL; thought this scene in Return to Oz reminded us both of mesh heads and this scene as young child always creeped me out!

That's an old meme from Lord of the Rings fandom, it came about because someone claimed that Dominic Monaghan (Merry the Hobbit) had visited her at home and she posted a photo of him lying on her bed to prove it. It was a bad cut-n-paste job, and someone made that comment.

There was a trend a while back, of pasting SL avatar faces on RL photos, that gave me the same vibe. *shudders*
