I just Googled "soul wormwood" and found this...

I have no experience with souls in either SL or RL, so I can only guess that whatever the bloodlines folks imagine a soul to be, it returns to you after waking the wormwood potion, and that's why it can be lost to the next person who bites you.

wormwood keeps your soul in limbo when taking it after firsst bite, but the soul goes to the first one who bites you afterwards ánd you join bloodlines.
