Hi JudiLynn,

You can transfer an account, but only with the written consent of Linden Lab. Here's the quote from Section 4 of the Terms of Service...

"You may not sell, transfer or assign your Account or its contractual rights, licenses and obligations, to any third party without the prior written consent of Linden Lab."

And here's the wiki page for this topic...

http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Sharing_or_transferring_Second_Life_accounts

I'm not sure just how you'd obtain written consent from LL to transfer an account, but if you're a premium member, you might try asking a Linden via Live Chat.

So, Maddy told you how to go about transferring an account.  Here's the downside to transferring without written consent from Linden Lab (TOS, Sect. 4.2): "You are solely responsible for all activities conducted through your Account whether or not you authorize the activity (except to the extent that activities occur because someone gains access to our system without using your identifiers and password). In the event that fraud, illegality or other conduct that violates this Agreement is discovered or reported (whether by you or someone else) that is connected with your Account, we may terminate your Account (or Accounts) as described in Section 5."

That is, if someone using your account turns out to be a griefer or a thief, you are responsible.  And Linden Lab can decide to terminate all of your accounts.

Once you give them your password, they have all your inventory and $L, and can change your billing info and email contact themselves.

But this IS A VERY BAD IDEA.  You open yourself up to getting banned from Second Life, as well as greatly increasing your risk for identity theft in Real Life.

It's free to make a new account.  Encourage your friends to make their own!
