how do I make my viewer work?

I'm having trouble making my viewer work. It keeps crashing. I'm guessing maybe my system requirments aren't right or there could be a patch I'm missing. Either way some suggestions would be great.

perhaps add your system specs to the post, it would make guessing what's wrong a lot easier

We can't just offer random suggestions.  You haven't told us anything that gives a clue about what the problem is.  We can't even tell for sure whether you are crashing or disconnecting.  If you want to provide extra information or need to clarify your question, click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and select EDIT. Please do not start a new thread. Doing that makes it hard for us to see what other people have already suggested, and it pushes other residents' questions off the page.

Before we can have any idea what to tell you, you have to tells us exactly what is happening and what your system specs are.

If the viewer will start and present a login screen then we have a set of scenarios that may explain the problem. In that case without logging in open HELP->ABOUT... copy that information into your post.

Or on Windows click Start and type DXDIAG, case doesn’t matter. That will open the dxdiag in the panel. It will give you your system specs. We need to know: video driver version, OpenGL version, …

You can also look at the sytem requirements to see if yur computer will run SL.System Requirements | Second Life

You can also try the Singularity or Cool VL viewers to see if they will work for you. Alternate Viewers
