User Setting Stats?

Just wondering if LL keeps track of the settings that anyone uses? E.G. I'm specifically wondering how many people have shadows turned on.

I have no clue, but I almost always have shadows on. This is probably because I'm always making something tho.

Given that they have said that they know how many people have advanced lighting enabled, I think we can take that as a "yes" they do keep stats.

If it were my system, I would too.

How the feck would they know in what way I set up the driver for my GPU? And for the inworld settings, well I change them quite often, according to the locale or occasion.

I would think that because the viewer communicates with servers maybe the viewer could send, among other things, also info what settings the user has on or not on in the viewer. Well, as I'm not familiar with the viewer code I don't know specifically what info it sends.

I don't know what it sends either but there's a meeting which was recorded where Oz Linden states that from their metrics that about 80% of users did NOT have advanced lighting enabled.

From that i'd reasonably assume that settings and other data is routinely collected and analysed in order to offer supporting evidence for development roadmap.

The graphics settings are sent in with the periodic stats as a single value "shader_level"

0: low graphics, no shaders

1: basic shaders

2: atmospheric shaders

3: advanced lighting

4: advanced ighting, SSAO enabled

5: advanced lighting, shadows enabled

(CPU, graphics card, many other stats are also sent in.)
