Do not use "take" command or kiss your mesh goodbye

It has happened twice already. I took in a group of mesh objects with "take" command, those objects vanished without a trace.

When building, I always use Take Copy, make sure it's in my inventory, rez it to make sure it's intact and, only then, do I delete the original... I've learned, that I should always take these steps, the hard way.

You should have a copy in your inventory before you're ever able to put it on the ground anyway...

If you took them as a group then they could be jammed together in your inventory as a coalesced object.

Also bear in mind that when you “take” the item, it returns to whichever folder you rezzed it from (unless you re-name or change the perms).

 

I have spent aaaaages looking for something in my “Objects” folder only to remember that I rezzed it from a directory somewhere else in my inventory.

I've actually had that happen to me a few times...but it's not like there wasn't a copy in my inventory. Just always make sure that you have it backed up somewhere; maybe even have a dedicated folder to it or something.

True, but the copy in your inventory won't have whatever changes you made to texturing etc whilst it was rezzed.
