Welcome to Second Life, and to Second Life Answers, naya2006

You should be standing in a place where there are arrows on the floor leading to different portals, offering you options.  Walk towards one of the portals and you will be magically teleported to a new destination.

I do suggest, though, that you read up on some basic "how to"s.  Please take a look at this link, from the official Second Life Knowledge Base

If you signed up for SL on a website that is run by a third party, rather than the official SL website, you may be permanently restricted to the island or islands that all belong to the same estate.  Some corporate and educational organizations with a presence in SL use restricted avatar accounts as they don't want employees or students wandering around SL.

If this is the case for you, you won't be able to leave where you are.  You will need to sign up for a new account at secondlife.com.  Not you must be at least 16 to do that and if you are under 18 you will be restricted to G rated sims. If you are 18 or older you will be able to go wherever you want to.

FOR OTHER PEOPLE WHO MAY STUMBLE INTO THIS NECRO-THREAD:

This thread was alive in 2013.  Linden Lab has changed the "starter" island twice since then.  If you are looking for current information about what are now called Learning Island and Social Island, this is not the place to look. Pay attention to threads on this topic that are less than a year old or ask a new question in Answers.

And if, as LoneWolfiNTj suggests, you are not an adult (for the purposes of SL, that means you are under 16 ), leave immediately and come back when you're older.  Linden Lab is not kind to underage users of the service.

If you are using someone else's account...DON'T.  This can also get you (and the real account owner) in huge amounts of trouble.

A bit of an old question (from 5 years ago) but since I stumbled into it, I might as well answer.

As others pointed out, if you are a non-adult, or if you didn't start your own Second Life account (free or premium) directly from the Second Life website (that is, you're on someone else's account), there may be restrictions on your movements. Speak to the account owner.

But if you're an adult and you just started your own account, then there are two ways to get off Starter Island:

  1. Complete the tutorial, following all the instructions. (This is recommended if you're new to Second Life.)
  2. Or, just click the Home button (house-shaped icon) and you will be transported to an infohub set as your "home", unless you made a premium account and specifically asked for a "Linden Home" in which case you will be transported there instead. (This option is best for people with previous Second Life experience as it skips the tutorial entirely.)
