Nobody.   It doesn't make any difference whether you have a Premium or a Basic membership. If you want to have land, you pay for it.  "Land" in SL is space in a server somewhere in Linden Lab's network.  Someone has to pay for the server, for maintaining it and upgrading its software, and paying the electric bill.  That someone is either a SL resident "landowner" who pays LL directly through land fees or another resident who "rents" from that landowner.  If you squat on someone else's land in SL, you'll be ejected the same way you would in RL.  There is no free lunch.

No such thing, Patrick.

Second Life is free to use, but Linden Lab spends millions of dollars a month to run the servers that support the Second Life world.  They have chosen to base their revenue model on virtual land.  Therefore, it costs money to have land in Second Life...whether you pay LL directly, or an estate owner or a landlord.

If you want land, you have to pay for it.

if you want land (not a sandbox) you will have to pay for it unless you have a very generous friend there's no such thing as free land anymore there used to be a guy who had 3 full mainland sims that anyone could live on free but that vanished more than a year ago when he disappeared from SL and stopped paying tier

Free land is very hard to find. It has in the past existed though and there may be some out there.

Free APARTMENTS and houses are more common rather than bare land. Landlords sometime offer those to people in order to get their traffic stats up (something that isn't so important these day in for some of us on some servers broken anyway :D ).

If you are willing to do the searching in the classifieds and forums you might find free land, but it is very unlikely someone is going to hand that information to you. Looking for yourself might be a good plan. You will likely learn more that way.

In the past there have been educational institutions, Native American groups and art groups that have offered free land to those who fit their criteria. You never know what you might find if you look.

You could always RENT land and pay for it by working or gathering crystals on the REALMS. It is very easy to support a small piece of land that way. The bottom line is that there really IS NO FREE LUNCH *wink*.
