what is third life? sorry, i'm ignorant

i've read at different places and occasions the term "third life". being curious, i want to know what that's all about. thanks. :cattongue:

Nothing specific.  It is used like a figure of speech.  Some times 3rd Life refers to Sansar.  Sometimes an alternate account used in SL. Other than saying it is something associated with Second Life, we would need to know the context to say what exactly they were intending to say.

Third Life, I think, is a reference to a joke in the US series of The Office: An American Workplace. One of the characters (Dwight Shrute, a paper salesman and assistant to the regional manager) gets a Second Life account to avoid doing his work and begins participating in-world.

Before long, Dwight secures himself a regional manager's assistant position at a virtual, Second Life paper mill and his avatar (modelled in his likeness) spends most of its time in-world playing on a virtual computer inside Second Life - avoiding doingvirtual work in a virtual paper mill by playing Third Life.

And so the cycle continues.
