This! I have enough problems with RL as it is. I don't need cyber-stalking added to that list.

It's nice to see some things haven't changed.

That may be the case. I'm just going off my own perception after returning from a nearly decade-long hiatus. Compared to back then, almost everyplace seems deserted compared to what it was. Perhaps I just need to catch myself up on what the popular destinations are now.

I had the pleasure of catching up with Bilbo at the hangout yesterday. After a nearly decade long hiatus from SL, it's nice to start reconnecting with old friends.

Second Life has always been a mixed bag of sociable and anti-social people, and also very cliquish. There does seem to be less people on the grid now than there used to be back in the day, so maybe the fewer number of people around makes it feel less social. But even years ago there still tons of "get off my lawn" types that either put up no entry barriers making exploring random places a hassle while flying around, or using security system eject balls to orbit you 10 sims away and crash your client. So even then just as it is now, there wasn't a huge friendliness factor unless you simply parked your avatar at the same spot day after day and got to know the regulars.

I have a main and one alt. One of each gender, so sometimes yes my avatar aligns with my RL gender, and sometimes no it does not. I have learned a lot over the last 15 years of using SL as both genders, it has opened my eyes to just how differently each one is treated by the general population, and I think those learning experiences have helped me to become a better person overall. On a side note, of my own observations, the furry community seems to be the least judgmental while also being judged the most harshly.

I'm the village idiot and the forum cartel hangout rodeo clown, so I reckon that's close enough for me.

That's the problem with people's expectations, and the same thing has been repeated for the last 15 years or more. SL wasn't meant to be perceived as a game. It was supposed to represent a virtual world. In a way it was the internet version 2.0 in its infancy, or was supposed to be.
