It's easy to drive too! You're right! It's much faster in BRG :-). I love mine. @Jo: First, I absolutely love that delivery truck. Beautifully done. Second, there was a thread much like this on the old GD called "How Do You Travel in SL?" or something very close to it, but It was not just about wheels—there were airplanes and possibly even lavender flying saucers. Even so, it was a very cool thread (Xiulan started it, I think) and included a picture comparing SL shoes to RL shoes that is still one of my favorite pictures of all time.
  2. It would be nice if the sellers on this section would update their threads (thank you to those of you who do that). This was offered on 6/7/11, at the moment it is not owned by the OP; it's abandoned land. No big deal because it's not what I was looking for, but it would have saved my time if I'd known that.
  3. Astina, you are certainly entitled to rant (although as Forum rants go, yours was very mild) about the lack of response from your would-be landlady. I suppose that happens; fortunately for me it has happened very rarely to me. By far the usual response from people selling things here is "Thank you for your business". I've had a few things go wrong and in all but one case the merchant was all over it like a blanket: sending replacements, IM'ing me to make sure I got what I wanted, etc. Even in the one case I did eventually get my item. As for people judging you by whether or not your RL picture (or anything ELSE about your RL) is in your profile: I believe you summed that up correctly. Not friend material. This isn't RL. I do think that if SL is making your unhappy then yes, maybe a bit of time off might be a good thing. Why deliberately go someplace making you unhappy? I hope you come back; I don't know you and as far as I know we've never crossed paths but with five plus years you have to be a fountain of knowledge and I think SL needs those people. Good luck. ps: I was typing this when the Forums crashed (at least for me) but when I could get back in I was still signed on and my autosaved reply was waiting.
  4. It's the longest for me, and in my part of the world it's an outstanding day to go to the beach. Mid to upper 70's F. I'll enjoy it while it lasts; soon enough we'll be into our regular summertime weather: foggy mornings, foggy evenings, a little sun in the middle.
  5. Not just the new GD section, Quinn, although that is a wonderful addition. We can talk about things not necessarily related to SL, but since we are who we are the SL connection is always there in some form even if it is only the knowledge that the post was made by a resident. A lot of the comments in this thread pointed out how much the forums in general have improved. The (what appeared to be much too heavy-handed) language moderation has eased. Topics that seemed to raise official eyebrows three months ago are now almost common. And all of that was done while not allowing any of the sort of thing that many of us found so unpleasant in the old GD forum to even gain a toehold here. This has become a place where anyone can speak up, can get involved, can learn. It's too bad you missed the way this particular thread evolved because I know you would have been happy with the process.
  6. I arrive to find that TOS has made their way into the Toy Store that hides the entrance to the Lab. Katt, Sylvia, and their patchwork squad are more than holding their own and slowly pushing the enemy back out of the buildings into the open area outside, Sylvia waving her katana and screaming like a madwoman. Just as the bulk of the enemy's troops are falling back across the plaza I detonate one of Nightfire's shaped charges, which thins the number of combatants nicely. I spot Guido racing out of the building and across the plaza, firing behind him as he goes. He's with a woman I've never seen who seems to be barking orders at GG. Could Big O be a female? There are few other people in the organization that would be giving orders to Guido; he would certainly be the one in charge of a mission like this. Leaving Sylvia and her troops to mop up here and guard the Brain Trust, Katt and I set off in close but cautious pursuit of the pair through the warren of alleys and passageways that make up the Market Quarter.
  7. Katt speaks up on the Q-channel to say Q's lab is coming under attack from what appears to be the main TOS contingent. She and Sylvia and a handful of recruits are in a pitched battle with the TOS. Sylvia is there because we moved M in with Q. After Keli left the City we assigned Sylvia as M's bodyguard and decided to keep them together to concentrate our forces. That of course also concentrates our risk but that's of little importance. There's no escaping this. On the way to the lab I stop briefly to set off one of Nightfire's incendiaries to destroy the plank bridge leading to the Reactor Room's lower level. That reduces the chance of TOS flanking us.
  8. It's ON. Nightfire and Caxton rigged explosives at the spot Lillie had picked as her sniper roost when she first arrived. We'd assumed that TOS would know we were aware of that spot and thus assume it to be compromised, but Nightfire set her traps there anyway. We may have over-estimated TOS, but I doubt it. I think Big O sent someone expendable to check out that position. That someone has now been expended. I Q-cast to the rest that it has begun. I do not tell them, nor do I need to, the gravity of the situation. We do it on our own or it does not get done. No clever tricks, no escape routes, no last minute salvations. We win, or we perish.
  9. I get back to the City after the odd incident with the reporter. A quick check using the communication system Q'ute provided lets me know everyone is in place. Because I think it will come down to gunfire at the end and also because I know I can count on her no matter what fortune sends our way, I make my way to Lillie's stakeout. We discuss options and decide that if I can get any TOS people in front of me the best plan will be to keep them moving toward the canal. At some point that will bring them into Lillie's sights. Makes my role almost that of a 'beater' in an English grouse hunt, but I have no problem with that. TOS is in our City. That just won't do. Time drags on. While we're waiting, Lillie mentions that while here she actually saw the man whose sketch she identified as the mole. Apparently he was being moved, under heavy guard, while she was being taken from her 'interrogation' room to the Main Office where she was formally enrolled as an MISL operative. I try not to look surprised; Lillie was realeased from interrogation a full two days after M informed us of the assasination of the mole. As is so often the case with M, there are wheels within wheels. For the moment none of that matters. Our job—my job—is to eliminate the threat to the City. I get a call that there is activity near the Tower and take my leave.
  10. I had been reading a lot of the Meeroo stuff but not getting involved. I don't have a lot of inworld time and I've never had a pet in SL, breedable or otherwise. I had looked at the pictures and read what everyone wrote and I could see they were really cute. A week or so ago I was at a live music gig and the club owner and one of her friends were both showing off their Meeroos, so I actually heard the sounds they make. So I knew they sounded cute and looked cute but I'm busy. Then Melita IM'd me to let me know one of her Meeroos had given birth and she named one of the females after me. Plus she sent me the HUD and an LM to the pen and all. Tonight I got inworld for the first time since seeing that in my email. Read the instructions, wore the HUD, tp'd. I found my namesake soon enough (I think Melita names all her Meeroos after people she knows) and followed the instructions on petting her. Since I assume all of you who are reading this are already Meeroo owners, you probably can guess the rest. I was charmed. I may have a very low threshold of charm but even had I not, I think the result would have been the same. I followed her around, petting her from time to time. Eventually she went back to her nest? to lie down. I got as close as I dared and sat down near her. I just sat there for a bit and watched her and listened to the music and the other Meeroos warbling. I wanted to leave. I knew if I stood up I'd probably kick her. So I tp'd home from the sit. I bet every. single. one. of you is just as goofy as I am. Thanks, Melita. I'm still not sure I'm ready to have a Meeroo of my own, but I really like that one is named for me. Now I understand what all you guys were talking about. :smileyhappy:

A prehistory. Something that took place so long ago the mists of time have shrouded it. As a student of history I really like this. I hope an historian (Deltango: are you reading?) sees this post and digs deeper. Demigods. Perhaps this might be a clue to the origin of so many of the old customs.
  12. Funny you should mention Airplane1. No wait....was that me? My favorite scene.
  13. Keli Kyrie wrote: Dillon Levenque wrote: <snip> it's Kent McCord, who did a lot of TV stuff but I don't think much in the way of movies. <snip> Not much? Not much!?! He was in Airplane 2 how much do you want. I don't think I'll ever get over Macho Grande. But shame on me for not remembering him being in one of the funniest movies ever. Thanks! Edited because I only looked at the still and thought it was Airplane 1. And how cool that even though he's not Keir Dullea, he had his own "HAL" to deal with.
  14. I did, but I just took the logical step of reading the comments on youtube below the clip: it's Kent McCord, who did a lot of TV stuff but I don't think much in the way of movies. Nice work with the poster :smileywink:

Rebecca is having a big battle with the people who made the music video, it just got pulled from YouTube. I put up the Acoustic version in the OP. Actually I meant the guy in the blue shirt in the Dragnet clip. Keir Dullea? Somebody like that.

  17. Pussycat Catnap wrote: I get that same impression. People are posting a lot of stuff now, very little of it hostile, snippy, or condescending. And they're posting in multiple subforums. The depature of a few key 'poke fun at people just to be clever' types has greatly improved the environment for the rest of the community - and now you're seeing new members here coming out of the shadows and taking part. Agreed, and how cool is that?
  18. Deltango Vale wrote: Agree. The key to success is how to speak up. To be effective, one must formulate a clear and convincing argument. Shouting gets one absolutely nowhere. The problem is that shouting is easy. Formulating a clear and convincing argument is hard work. I have people that do that for me ;-)
  19. Dresden Ceriano wrote: I guess I mistook what you said... I do agree, be adult. But please, don't stop pushing boundaries. I want us to have adult conversations here (I don't mean lewd). If no one had ever pushed the mods to let up a little, we'd be living in disney **bleep**ing bleach land. That could be fun, but it could also get old really quick. Cheers... Dres I don't know if the mods were 'pushed' so much as made aware. I do know there were a lot of posts and a lot of threads (I liked the 'disney' ref, by the way; one of Deltango's that got a lot of attention) that took issue with not just the structure but the tone of the new forums. Things have changed more than we realize since March. The Disneyficaction (that can't be the right spelling). The Unqueering thread. The introduction of the proposed LBGTI subsection (which really pushed a lot of buttons, mine included). That all seems in the past, possibly even in the distant past. It's better now. We do have adult conversations about adult matters. As I have said ad nauseum, the openess and acceptance and tolerance is the thing I love most about Second Life. It seems to me the forums as they now exist are a place where that same tolerance can be expressed in ways that the whole world can see. If none of us had spoken up, if none of us had complained, maybe that wouldn't have happened. Edited for punctuation. And case, as it turns out.
  20. Deltango Vale wrote: Yikes! Peggy has said what no one else dared to say. I myself am delighted that Linden Lab has turned pro. I stamp my foot now and again with petty complaints, but what drives my impatience is enthusiasm with the transformation of these fora from a childish rant-fest to a mature enterprise. As for those who still want to play with their peepee, there are lots of other fora in the universe. Scylla, you are a smart, funny, educated person who has much to offer. Ditch the existential petulance, leave the Church of Victimization and join the team. Funny you should have posted to this thread, Deltango. There was a mention in the quoted post about how things have descended into 'ungrammatical crap' or words to that effect and I immediately thought of how much better the fora* are now than the GD forum I remembered. One of the chief reasons is the fact that I see so much more of you here than I recall from the old GD (and your grammar is above reproach). Maybe you posted just as much on the old GD and your wheat was hidden by the clouds of flame-war chaff. I too am very happy with the current state of affairs. I don't have huge problems with the PG rules. I will say that there was no reason whatever the Richard anti-furry rant should have been pulled; it was amusingly done. There were even pictures to point out the irony in case those who can't read so well didn't get it. Aside from that this is such a better place than the old GD. There are Lindens here! Lots of them, actually (and I still think Scylla's 'Phone Home' thread was a mover in that regard). We feel connected; we're not just floundering around. I like it here. *usually I say forums like almost everyone else but out of respect....
  21. I don't know if 'delusions of grandeur' is quite correct; delusions of relevance would be more to the point. It is interesting if not astonishing that someone, anyone, would devote so much of his time and energy to the actions he describes. But I really liked reading his OP if for no other reason than it contained what at this point has to be the Laugh of the Day: "I started off trying to make the Forum a better place..". Of course, it's early yet.
  22. Randall Ahren wrote: One of my favorite Churchill quotes regarding his previous hatred toward Stalin is "If Hitler invaded Hell, I would at least make a favourable reference to the Devil in the House of Commons." Words are like weapons and a great wizard can use them for good or evil. Wow. One of mine too. I am pretty sure he quoted himself in his history that I referenced. Probably not long after a comment about the fact that about a month after Hitler invaded Russia he noticed that posters proclaiming "Stop the Imperialist War!" were being replaced by ones proclaiming "Second Front NOW!" I meant no disrespect for WSC. I happen to think he was a shining example of Anglo-American cooperation (his mother was an American) and if not the most important political figure of his century certainly on a very short list. And you're right; he was a wizard with words.

  25. I spelled it that way intentionally; I frequently omit vowels when the word can be readily recognized without them, to save time. You believe that, right? It's actually true but only when I'm writing notes. And I'd have omitted the second 'i' as well had I been doing that. I believe Hebrew or Yiddish makes use of that strategy right from the start. In any case I've now fixed it for clarity. And now I've edited this one for spelling.
