Thanks for that response Nelson - much appreciated.

they seemed to reorganise what they chose to show us in Q2 2010 - if you want to see the old stats and see what is now missing see this post.
In that post they said 'We are eager to hear what information and analysis you would like to see about the Second Life economy that would help your business'. Since then they have quietly dropped the following figures that would surely prove to be useful indicators:
- Total value of user-to-user transactions
- Total L$ held by residents
Maybe these figures could be re-instated to give businesses a better understanding of how the economy is doing.

Fredrik - even if you logged users in to OpenID at login time every subsequent call to open a web profile is taking too long. Your team have been working on web profiles for a very long time - I am surprised that the final product has so much that still needs to be corrected.
-
Am not sure that reporting them to a fictitious department will help much!

Technology Improvements for Q1 Including Raising Group Limit to 42

Maeve - there are many reasons why you may be experienceing this but it sounds like it may be computer-related. Generally lag and 'greyness' has reduced in the last year in sl. But here are a few practical things you can try:
- Clear your cache
- Make sure you have 'HTTP textures' enabled in Imprudence (and if you hadn't turn it on and clear the cache again)
- Try another viewer - doesn't have to be Viewer 2 - just try another 1.* TPV viewer
- Try another computer - or use your computer at a friend's house if it is portable
Hope some of this may help.

Darren,
The web profiles work was not done by Q Linden's area - it was done by another (the SOCIAL team). Q's area is much more open than many other areas of LL and you can find out more and even attend meetings that they hold - see details here.
-
My concerns are less associated with privacy, but more to do with those of us on low bandwidth connections - waiting 10-15 seconds to see a profile is not very good.

I also discount those with closed minds who don't realise we have to work with what LL gives us.

I'm only getting 2 of 3 fav bar entries in the logon drop down. Anyone else observing this?
try moving them in your 'favorites' list - when I did that they all appeared!
-
I agree David - that does explain a lot about why the interface feels intuitive or not. Making one suitable for both 'Western' and East Asian residents will always prove difficult. This is why it is better we have choice in interface design.
-
Have you changed the aspect ratio of the picks pictures again? All my pictures seems horizontally squeezed.
In the new web profiles the ratio is 1:1 - previously it was often 4:3.
-
Jacob - the web profiles are produced by the Social team not the Viewer 2 team - what is happenning is a strategic decision by LL to put some Viewer 2 content on the web. In theory it is a good idea, but not when it messes up what can be done in the Viewer as we are seeing here.

You can already do this to some extent by just storing them in the contents of a prim (one shaped and textured like a wardrobe would be good ). There are some limitations based on the object's permissions - but you should find it works with most things.
Oh, and don't blame me if you suddenly find that SL ate your wardrobe.
I'm sure there must be a link about it somewhere - maybe someone else can help.

The SSL Handshake error and a problem with sudden drop in FPS are both covered in this Viewer 2 forum thread.

I myself do not mind the web based profile for my PERSONAL use like for updating. But I am not a fan of Facebook at all...and it is not a good move to go that direction, not unless we are catering to all the teeny-boppers that are Facebook addicts (sorry if I offended those facebook lovers that are not teeny-boppers).
Facebook is generally used by older people - Habbo or MySpace (less popular now) or a music sharing social network is more often the choice of teenagers.
-
The only way to fix it is to open Internet Explorer it seems - you only have to do this the once - after that everything works fine. See https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-24426 for more details.

Thanks Q - I will look forward to news of how Snowstorm will be going forward.
-
Also with the Viewer 2 lead, Esbee Linden, having chosen to leave LL for greener pastures would Q like to tell us about plans for her replacement?
For those of you who don't know Esbee was a patient, tireless and very able lead for Viewer 2. Under her direction the Snowstorm team made good progress. Sadly, however, the work carried out by others in LL and outside did not always support her - I wish her all the best in what I'm sure will be a very bright future for her.
-
So let's get this right Fredrik you released 2.5.1 Beta without making any reference to this major bug and the workaround in either the blog post or the release notes!
-
I was having that problem a while back but since moving to 2.5 (Snowstorm builds) I haven't had that trouble. That may just be a coincidence - but with the release of 2.5 Beta imminent your fuzzy days hopefully may soon be over.

I'm sure they will add a 'whinge' button next time for you

Please plan something to speed up delivery of web-based profiles. The speed that they are loading in the recent Snowstorm release (that will become 2.5 Beta) is far too slow.

Maybe I missed a post somewhere, but will all future accounts have the last name of "Resident" or is LL going to get some common sense back soon?
They will only have 'Resident' if you view them on 1.* based viewers - it was a fix that was put in for those that use them. In Viewer 2 they are seen with just the single name; it was just part of a badly thought out policy towards display names.

They are aware - and there is a workaround listed at https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-24426.

The SSL handshake error was supposed to have been fixed in Beta 2 but instead seems to have reappeared for a whole new bunch of users, including someMac users. The Lindens are aware and are trying to fix it - see STORM-927 for more details.
