  1. Kenbro, I know you've been around long enough to know that that tactic is not going to work well. What you are saying is play the waiting game.......thinking your annoying neighbor is going to tire of the game just acquiesce, move the annoying build smashed against Melita's platform, and move away. Yeah that does work sometimes but Melita is the one doing the waiting and meanwhile she's dealing with the people she has generously allowed previleges on her property..........she can't just ignore that her friends have to deal with the issue too (well she could but I'm sure she would never ignore her friends like that). If she didn't have the friends she has given so much to then I might be agreement with you since it's only her having the problem.......but that's not the case. The neighbor is, obviously, trying to ruin Melita's SL. It won't take long before that neighbor might decide to annoy the friends. Being a "milktoast" to aggession never works. And that is exactly what you are advocating. "Just roll-over and it will work out". Yeah it will........but at what expense? I've waited out a neighbor myself.....I won. But it took about 2 years. I didn't even play the "war of words" game. I asked one time and got the finger (like Melita did) then I just moved higher. Then they followed me and moved lower, then they followed me and I.........etc. It was only me and, at the time, I was in the building mood and I simply used the annoyance as an excuse to build something else. I wouldn't do the same today though.
  2. What happens if you delete anything on your computer and, say, some 6 months later you decide that you want it back (actually even a week later)? What guarantees do you have that that what you deleted will be intact and easily restored to what it was before you deleted it? How long would it take to even get some of what you deleted recovered? More importantly, how much would you have to spend to recover what you deleted? Can it even be done? Just some things to think about. You destroy something it's not going to be easy to un-destroy it. _____________________ why is it so hard to get a simple thing like a deleted account restored? ------------------------------------ Why in the world would you ever think such a thing?
  3. Clear your cache is a good starting point. If that doesn't work then maybe nuking your cache is what you need to do. By "nuking" I mean manually delete everything in the cache folder. The easiest way I know to tell you how is to go the the same tab (it's different on some viewers so it's impossible to say exactly where it is) that you go to the clear the cache using the viewer option. Make a note of the cache location that is shown and close your viewer. Navigate to that location on your computer and select everything in the cache folder and delete the entire content of the folder. Some people suggest a computer restart but I don't think it's necessary myself. Then launch SL but before you log in change the log in location to one of the Linden Lab maintained sims (Pooley or Aqua are the ones I use). Log in then do one thing only.....take a step or two away from the landing point at the sim location. Now it's just a waiting game for your entire inventory to load (it can take a while since your cache is completely empty so be patient. Do absolutely nothing while it loads. Once it's loaded TP back home or where ever you normally log into. You're items should be in your inventory now. A side note that is important. If you use more than one viewer (even for a different account) you should do the same for each viewer (one at a time). And avoid viewer to viewer interaction in the future move the caches to different locations on your computer (even for different avatars or accounts). For example: If you use two viewers on two accounts you need 4 different cache locations (you can leave one at the default is fine but all others move someplace else).
  4. You file an Abuse Report on an owner the same as you file an Abuse Report on anyone (or anything) else. Click on his/her name and report.....pretty simple really. But your AR is going no where. The owner of a parcel or sim can eject anyone or anything for what ever reason they see fit. If the owner wants the land you are renting for any reason then the owner can take it.......he/she doesn't even have to notify you (your owner did and requested you get back to him/her.......apparently you did not, so he took it). Next time get back to the owner if you are requested to do so........you might not be in the pickle you are in now had you done as requested.
  5. Lots of things could be wrong. Care to elaborate a little so that maybe someone can offer more than that?
  6. Oh sh**.............you're right!!! Half a trillion. Good god, that's half the budget of the US Government!! That's a big number. I suppose the OP wanted to be taken seriously............wonder if anyone does.
  7. Hi bobby. I'm in the process of enjoying my Second Life being carefree, doing pretty much as I want to (within the ToS), and avoiding johnny come latelys wanting a return on my exploits, endeavors, and experience who just don't seem to have the time in their tight schedule to do the "hard work" on their own. Sorry. Get your paper data the hard way.........do it yourself. Or go jump in a lake. :matte-motes-big-grin:
  8. 500,000 Million USD $ --------------------------------- That's 5 billion USD $. Just thought you might like to know.
  9. Actually, I'm the type to do just that. But I don't think Melita is (and that's a good thing.....I'm just a different person in that way). The only potential issue is that by being blatant and putting a particle generator right at the edge of the property line is that, as I mentioned, particles do spill over and everyone knows it.......it could be a violation of the ToS because of that. Me? I'd take the chance knowing LL will probably, at the worse, warn me and make me move it. I chose a waterfall since that's innocent enough and makes some sense for placement near a property boundary. I did think of a bonfire (which, in my mind would be more annoying) but that really doesn't fit what I believe is Melita's style. I'm not afraid of a spat once I've done the polite thing...I enjoy a little feud once in a while. *why do I think I could be a griefer?* :smileyvery-happy:
  10. This is mainland. -------------------------------------- From Melita's original post to start the thread: I fell in love with a certain parcel which is bordered on two sides by ocean and one by Linden road. No, not the most private, but usually it was quiet there whenever I went to stop and look at the parcel for sale. So, I eventually bought it. I didn't put any ban ilne or orb, since it's near those public access ways and I don't want to knock anyone off their sailboat or car. ----------------------------------------------- The "higher authority" is Linden Lab. From what was discribed there is no ToS violation so any appeal to the "higher authority" (in the form of an Abuse Report) is going absolutely no where. A waste of both Melita's time and LL's time filing such AR's..........I believe Melita knows that since she's smart enough to be aware of any ToS violation that might be occurring (and there isn't any). She's done everything reasonable to resolve the problem (in a polite and calm manner). She's out of ideas........so are most here. Some say move (or run and hide). Some say ignore (don't run but hide). I say fight fire with fire. Stay within the ToS but stop being the nice guy.......she's tried that and got flipped off for it.
  11. I'm not as nice as Melita. I, too, would have politely approached my nieghbor and tried to arrive as some reasonable resolution that both the nieghbor and Melita could live with. That, it seems, fell on deaf ears (or maybe purposefully ignored....which is my guess) so nice is out. Play as rough as they do and ignore requests to cease playing rough. Particle generators come to mind. You say they have some pretty cloud texture on their side of the wall so that they have this peaceful view of puffy white clouds against a blue sky (that's what I envision anyway). I wonder what a gorgeous waterfall would look like "accidently" spilling over occassionally on their side of that beautifully textured wall. Out of place I would guess...especially if you could find a waterfall with some fish jumping in the falls. Keep the generator on your side but we all know particles spill over a little bit. Don't be blatant about it put it just close enough so that a few particles make it over on their side occassionally. You could put a pretty cliff on your side to make the falls have sense......and to be "not so blatant". What's the worse that will happen? She AR's and LL makes you move the falls? I mean, it was an accident don't you know. Nice is a wonderful thing.......but nice is not wonderful when you get shafted because if it.
  12. Woiw, after over 7 years and many times searching for some stupid gesture I never knew that...........thanks!!
  13. The recurring payment for land tier is established by the day of the month you first incurred the charges. So if you purchased the land that caused you to have to pay Linden Lab tier on March 2 then every 2nd of the month the tier will be due again. I don't think you can change it but you can call Billing Support to get a definite answer. ------------------------------------ Have billing issues? Give us a call. 14. I've been called a lot of things. Goddess is not one of them. Thanks (I think). That's a pretty heavy title to live up to. :smileyvery-happy:
  15. They don't have to be next to each. Just hold the shift key when you select......just like you would if you were selecting multiple items (things, words, etc.) for any other selection process using a computer.
  16. Okay Grif, you owe me one cleaning bill for my peeing my pants. That's not only the perfect answer but it's the funniest I've read on the forums in years.
  17. I doubt it has changed since I last did the major inventory thing (I've learned to move things to folders that make sense to me as I collect them.......major inventory organization can be a time comsuming pain in the you know what). Use [shift] click to select multiple items (just like everything else computer)........you can select up to 41 items to move at once.
  18. Got 10 bucks real money? That will get you about $L2500........about the price of two Starbuck coffees.
  19. There's an easier way (and it happens to be entirely legal). Have your friend take a look at everyone (or anyone) who your friend happened to give their password to. Or maybe have your friend come up with a password that is not so easily guessed. I sincerely doubt your friend's account was hacked (such a mis-used term these days). Someone hacking an account requires some level of work.......more work than is typically profitable to someone who would go through the effort (not to mention the risk of going to jail). Ameretto horses stolen? Is that sometime someone would steal and risk some serious legal trouble? Get real.
  20. "... I can guarantee that even though I am not a premium member that I have paid LL more for 6+ years in fees and tiers than a large percentage of premium members ever will. I hardly consider that using SL for "free". ..." ------------------------------------------ And I believe I said that the "majority" of the users have a free account. I am also well aware that a "free account" (basic) can (and many do........perhaps you are one of those who do) own private estates...............to the tune of just under $300 (USD) per month. I know you are smart enough to know I was not referring to those "free" accounts. I'm speaking about the thousands of basic (free) accounts who do not put anywhere near as much into SL as they take out of second life. I know several people (one is actually a pretty good friend of mine) who have only purchased a few USD worth of $L over the years yet have cashed out well over a couple thousand USD........those people are not that numerous either. The point is that since you can (and many do) use and enjoy SL for 100% free and you can even "make" money without spending anything or, like my friend, very little. There ain't many platforms anywhere in the world that one can do that. And then complain about a few ads? Perhaps the complainer would like the "free" part to go away so they don't have to deal with the ads?

  22. Somehow I don't think you are really concerned about Linden Lab's financial "stability" but more concerned about whether or not Second Life is going to eventually cost you more to remain. Linden Lab provides SL completely free of charge for anyone. It's quite remarkable in today's age for any company to provide a complex virtual world that someone can use and enjoy without putting one single penny (USD) toward maintaining the service and majority of the users do just that......use and enjoy SL without putting a thing back into the company that provides it. In fact a very large percentage of users make enough $L to cash out so that they break even........it costs them nothing because the $L they make equal what they put into SL in the way of tier or rent, or upload fees. Some even make a profit.......some (a very small percentage) make a substanial profit (enough to pay them a real life income capable of a decent life style). And you are "concerned" about LL's financial stability? Most people don't like ads.........myself included. I also don't like commercials on TV. Ads and commercials pay the bills for the company who provides the space at a cost to the advertiser......it keep's things free (or nearly free). I've noticed the ads. But instead of getting upset (either for concern about LL's financial health or that LL is making money selling ad space to outside interests) I actually thought "It's about time. Make more money so that SL can remain free (or nearly free). I keep saying "nearly free" because I'm a premium member and pay $90 per year on my quarterly payment plan and that $90 per year has not increased a single penny (USD) in the over 7 years since I became premium..........I don't want it to increase either.
  23. There are a number of "free" programs that you can use to make clothing. It's the "easy" part that is going to be the tripping point. Actually, clothing making is not hard........it's learning the software, how it works to accomplish what is necessary for clothing in SL. Well, I suppose you can make clothing using the in-world tools that most (all?) viewers have but those are going to be very primitive looking.........I don't think you would be satisfied at all. You say Blender seems hard for you......well, it probably is since it appears you have no knowledge about image/texture editing or creating. Microsoft Paint would be hard in that case too. Pick an image editing program (I suggest GIMP instead of Blender). Learn what the program will do (which is basically anything you want it to do as far as editing and creating is concerned), practice basics until you fully understand them, then dig into the more "complicated" stuff (like color depth, image size or resolution, aspec ratio and how it relates to image size.........and, by all means, learn the powers of 2 if you intend to create anything in SL and not have it distorted). All that can be easy or complicated......it depends on just how much you are willing to put the effort to.
  24. It might not bug you so much if you update your graphics card/adapter.
  25. "... (Since the OP has left the thread, I will just say it: baloney.)" ------------------------------------------------------------- Yeah the OP did leave the thread but I bet he's still lurking Like the vast majority of every thread I've read over the years like this, the entire subject (and limited, or made up, facts contribute) stinks to high heaven. Linden Lab just does not ban indiscriminately..........in fact, the rarely ban at all. It generally takes something illegal in the real world for LL to kick someone out permanently. Things like money laundering, identity theft, stealing money via the use of an illegally obtained CC number, real life drug sales, pedophilia, stalking (not stalking some avatar, stalking as in a real life boy friend or girl friend physically stalking someone in real life). Big stuff........LL just does not ban perma-ban for petty stuff (griefing, calling someone names, or arguing). So, OP, I know you are reading, I'm telling you that your sob story is total BS. It's probably best you are remaining silent becuase I have a lot more to say if you want to jump back in.
