  1. SLU pre-dates the "SL ban for Forum ban" policy. It dates back to 2004 or so and I don't think there's anyone around except Cris who can speak to what motivated its' creation. SLU, of course, became VV1. Circa 2006 or so there was some drama or another which led to the creation of Second Citizen (which has it's own drama, and has now closed) an SL forum that co-existed with SLU, then later there were others with varying degrees of activity. At one point you probably had 4 or 5 SL-oriented forums coexisting. VV1 comes from that era, and that ecosystem, and is unrelated to what we're talking about -though some people (raises hand) decided to focus their posting efforts to there after the policies became sketchier here. The fact I'm here (and to date unbanned) is the tasting that is the proof of the pudding.
  2. That ain't me, I have no problem with anyone's faith. It's actions I have a beef with, such as faith going out and wiping out entire cultures, burning people at the stake for their faith, or any number of other horrors (all of which have been in the mainstream news in recent years). Also, when it comes to the beliefs that are used to bludgeon LGBTQ+ people for simply existing -as the current dominant religion is so often used to do, then don't be surprised when the people being beaten (often with more than just a bible) by folks who love themselves some Jesus vocalize resentments.
  3. There are worse sins -often committed by priests, no less.
  4. In my case, it's a hold-over from days gone by, when there was a threat of losing your account if you were banned from this forum. Honestly, I'm not sure that isn't still the case ...
  5. A significant millstone...to hang around our necks? /me thinks I may have just out-grumped Sid Nagy
  6. Thank ***** you're not an SL customer -or is it that you're not the "average" one? (more mean than average perhaps?)
  7. This is always a userful thing to remember when having nostolgia about 'community'. I mean how many times has LL taken a weed-whacker to these forums already? Three or four times that I can think of (twice on the old vbulliten-or-whatever forums, then twice after switching to whatever this is). This is a community in the sense there are long time members who know and recognize each other; but at the end of the day? It's a corporate platform sponsored for the sake of promotion and marketing.
  8. 1)Regardless of who said it, the advice is sound; you get back what you put out. Yes, different forums have different vibes but if someone consistently gets back negativity they ought to consider that the problem is them. 2)A pizza without pineapple and olives is an abomination
  9. No idea, but I had a chance to pounce on her and ask for her bear during one of the SLBs a few years back 😻
  10. Not so much a new look but bits and bobs from old outfits for...an updated look? Yeah, that's it.
  11. There's a difference between making an emphatic point and being "upset", and in written communication "tone" can be ambiguous. This is doubly true on a forum such as this where people's behavior is constrained (as opposed to reddit where only the mod's whims rule) I mean -I'd never dream of stopping you from reading anything into anything you like (such as tone) but I'd just point out it's not necessarily as reliable as you appear to think.
  12. Yep, yep...it's equal parts horrifying and amazing to see how much and be traced back to 4chan since it opened almost 20 years ago.
  13. It does look a bit desperate to read implications into words that aren't there just for the sake of kicking up dirt, I agree with you there! 😉
  14. I grew up in the 70's and 80's with siblings in 12 step programs; this is the first I'm hearing of this usage. Seriously. This is sounding to me a lot like the steamed hams bit where Skinner's trying to say that's what hamburgers are called in Albany...
  15. Well, it wouldn't be the first time people slung around chan-based pejoratives for whatever reason. This is the first time I've noticed it, though.
  16. Was it used though? I don't remember seeing anyone getting called 'normie' around here before?
  17. I'm trans, I live in SL as a woman -that automatically makes me 'not normal'. And yet -I'm a pretty basic *****, all things being equal. I'm a neko but apart from that my musical tastes are classic rockish and my clothing tastes tend to be pretty mainstream. My point being; a case could be made either way for me. I think that's probably true for a lot of ppl in SL. So I don't really know how to answer the original question apart from:
  18. I'd never say it's pleasant; but it's definitely "good to know". "Know thy enemy" with a little "those who forget history" thrown in.
  19. For approximately ten years I only saw "normie" thrown about on 4chan and reddit; without exception as a pejorative.
  20. It isn't clear to me what makes people think I know any more than anyone else lol Speaking strictly for myself and not for anyone else -I tend to err on the side of caution and respect. It's up to everyone else to figure out what that means to them and what they feel comfortable with.
