  1. My older neighbors always had them up, but being my store is deeply seated between my home and one of these, this could have been bad for customers. I never really *noticed* banlines before because I don't have them showing. I don't like running into them, and one of my neighbors property line criss crosses by my store. I'd not even heard of this being an issue since coming into SL over 2 years ago. It's good to learn things like this and this forum is a great place. I so believe in being respectful of others around me, tho, even I have had some less than shinning moments as a neighbor, but it's all a growth. When I first posted this I was not aware of FPS, and end user issues. For some reason I am having problems with this, even though I've gutted my system of anything that will suck energy and stopped leaving PS up or browsers while in SL (even rebooting to be sure nothing was hanging on). After several people coming by because of this forum, I've learned that it's not just the sim, or the animals or whatever, but my end. Again, learning along the way. I thought if I had a mondo system with a fantastic video card, it would always be Linden's faught, but not so... Something is up on my end and I'm working to improve this.
  2. Thanks for posting the info about banlines. Because I don't travel oven around SL, I wasn't aware of the problem for travelers. I have since removed mine. Seriously, most folks just are clueless about the nuaunces of SL.
  3. I just turn off viewing ban lines. That's not an issue for me. I have my property set to no enter of public, but not sure if ban lines are visable for those who have the lines viewable. I have an orb but using it elsewhere. The reason people turn them on is ppl feel very free to explore the homes of others. So my question is, why not turn them off in your viewer. I don't see them. PS I have contacted neighbors asking them to help clean some things up. I for one bought a nano parcel next to me. The owner at first didn't want to sell it. I wasn't "aware" it was there actually until one day a Meeros nest showed up. It was right in the path of my store. She said, no, then changed her mind. I've also contacted neighbors and asked them to work with me to clean a few areas up. Some did, some told me to go F. myself. I have mixed feelings about a Mole running the Mainland. Would it prevent bad taste? I swear I don't want to be petty but there is some really bad taste in Second Life. And ppl being inconsiderate. When I moved there, I made sure my store did not rise too high and block my neighbors view of the water and I spoke with her, and my other neighbors across the street about what they'd like to see in the area. But that's me. Meantime the "chicken" is still floating in the sky, going on a year now. The owner has yet to respond to my request to remove it, and the boxes of junk. The sky there is a mess. It's wall to wall garbage. People leave everything up there.
  4. ACTA was signed under an executive order by Obama. It bypassed our judical system. This is all in the guise of copyright infrindgement but it's really another way to limit our freedoms. In the past year we've seen the loss of privacy and freedoms in this country at an such an excelerated rate. They chip away at our rights with most of us totally unaware. ACTA was an example of that. "The agreement was signed on 1 October 2011 by Australia, Canada, Japan, Morocco, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea and the United States. In January 2012, the European Union and 22 of its member states signed as well, bringing the total number of signatories to 31. After ratification by 6 states, the convention will come into force." Wikpedia
  5. I had a tread removed too about (better not say or this will go too). I got the escalated notice. LL "used" to encourage discussion of everything about Second Life. There was nothing taboo. :matte-motes-asleep: Maybe they should have a new TOS for the forums.
  6. I'm surprised. Type in "Beatles" in search. I see a lot of copyrighted items in MP. There's no real way to report that either. LL options to report items do not include copyright infringement.
  7. I just look in inventory, avatar wearing...see what's missing, usually eyebrows. Whatever is missing I just put it on and POOF. I'm back. I generally suggest eyebrows first. I know it's werid, but it works for me.
  8. I really don't have a choice. Both Firestorm and LL hang on log in and log out and put my computer to a white screen, and things take forever to rez., if rez at all. I've adjusted as many things as I can but really don't know where to go from here. Both my computer systems are fairly new (one under 6 months), and the other upgraded it to handle heavy graphics. So... there are other issues for me besides the interface. Trust me, I've tried to embrace them. I often use either of them, as I've said before in these forums, I know they're the future. Your issue, not mine. Does not make v1 any better. V1 has odd, backward steps too, just like v2 does, just you are used to them because you have been using v1 so long. I find v2 just as simple for designing as v1 was. In fact, some viewers like firestorm have the sae build tools as v1/phoenix do.Firestorm and LL Viewer is not not simpler. I know Firestorm pretty well. Don't assume someone doesn't know the other viewers just because I'm not elaborating. Your arguement that people are not "learning" these viewer is just ludicrious. I also know Imprudence and Kirsten's viewer well. I give up. Use what you want, and I'll use what I works for me at the moment. When it's forced on us, I'll deal with it then. I don't know why I responded to this forum.
  9. Serith Haefnir you're not a builder or a designer. I just looked at your profile. As a designer, I can't use these other viewers without ripping my hair out. I need a viewer that gets the job done quickly, not a viewer that requires extra steps. It's just that simple. There aspects of these viewers that can't be reconfigured to make my job easier. What is your job in SL? To play and go to clubs? That's fine, but designers and builders are the ones who speak the loudest about the viewers, not the regular folks.
  10. Well, I'm getting good with derender! It's easy to move when it's just a house. After long time somewhere and building a customer base, it's hard to move. But, I've learned alot in this forum and have lots to think about. Thanks everyone.
  11. Thanks Qie, and also to Chrono and Leona for stopping by. Now if I can get my billing problems resolved I could do the dance of joy! PS. The balloons are only until after Valentines then they're gone.
  12. New club opening nearby. Just spotted. They're building it now. That's it. I'm leaving. I'll keep my store for now, releasing most of the 1/4 sim I have there. Now I am going to find a new store location. Don't want to do this, but I think this was a wakeup call. PS. I just talked to club owner. He said he's been here all along, but as I live and breathe I've not seen that building. Oh well.
  13. Thank's Qie for checking out more issues. I have some temp rez balloons in the store for Valentines. I wonder if those hurt or harm. What about spinning signs? Are those problems? There s a MONDO sign spinning across the way and besides looking horrible, I wondered if it caused problems. I asked him if he could take it down, but of course, that didn't work. The sign isn't going to bring customers. I never get why ppl park signs in the sky, especially ones that are obtrusive. I'll ask the palace guy about this wagon, and see if horse guy can help with the problems. Wish me luck! Thank you for looking into possible issues. I really wish Linden would investigate problems. Especially if someone has less invested into SL. Hugs and thanks! PS Regarding horses, is this something he can adjust or is it just with horses in general?
  14. Thanks everyone. A friend of mine said new chickens are coming. She's building cages for their arrival. Did the Meeros fad out? I haven't seen any of those for awhile. The sim is running fine at the moment (I think). I've had good luck with one neighbor, she removed some scripted things, like maids that walk around when she's not online. That helps. I took down many things I didn't really need, like a stable with one non-breedable horse standing there, also keeping my draw distance low for better performance. I don't want to move my store because it's just too much work at the moment to do that, and I like some of my neighbors. Still there is a floating chicken, and Palace dude (sells gor clothing and things for Gor) put up a weird fence thing rather than lower the Palace and get it at least on the ground rather than floating 20 or 30 meters. As far as visiting mainland, most people who come to my store don't know where they are. I can't say anyone has said they wouldn't come because I was on mainland. My rez point isn't an eyesore. You'd have to cam out. Most are coming go shop not look around. Still not happy about the horses but someone came and tested the area and said they were not presenting any noticable lag. I don't know enough about the breedables other than they cause problems if moving.
  15. Thanks to all the PPLs who came by and talked to me and give me some great advice and tips!!! Things are running better. Also LL took down the sim for maintence and it's much better. yay.
  16. Ok, all the numbers "seem ok" but Active Objects is in the red zone at past 800. So is that bad? I can't find anything on that.
  17. I talked with Ann the car lady, and she gam me some tips to improve my performance. I am trying to understand the Status box. I was FPS 8, but cleared cache and at 12. Anyone have tips for better performance? I find it all so confusing. I just want to long on and go!
  18. Yep, welcome to my world. these things were not there. It was all very charming and not so long ago. Sigh. Was the Palace abandoned? It wasn't. If that's the case, I'll contact LL. Anyways, it was a nice area. I wonder if that land sale brought in so many people. Thanks for looking and supporting me.
  19. i really hope that you're right about these rentals. They showed up out of nowhere and they offer nothing. They're ugly skyboxes and I think if noobs rent them, they'll soon look around for a better view. They are boxes with a dome over them. Just stacked on top of each other. From what I can see, they are mostly empty. Let's hope. One thing is sure, I've seen ppls come and go.
  20. They were in a closed area, my cam landed on them when I was trying to find sources of lag. But, I might add, it's a new addition to the area. Ok, I can get over that (I think). I have lived on private land and have had problems. Last place, after many months of bliss (I am one of those ppls who never moves) neighbors put up a gazzion waterfalls, then the owner started allowing breedables. It went from a lag free sim to pea soup. I moved to Mainland because I loved the charm of that area, also because I have a business and I don't want to EVER move again. It's so hard to change out all the landmarks and re-establish, which I had to do on account of another private commerical sim that I had issues with (again, neighbors). That was the big reason for moving to ML. It was suggested by other merchants. What always amazes me is the simple lack of class we find in SL. Total trailor trash. Maybe I'm being too hard, but I take pride of ownership. When I first moved to this area, I designed my home around the houses near me. I'm friends with a few, and I am going to talk to them and see if we can all send LL another complaint about resources. Can anyone tell me if two regions are side by side, if resources tapped on one, effect the other. I have land on two regions. One side seems far worse than the other. I don't know how this works.
  21. There is no place to run and no place to hide. I can only hope that these ppls leave... but that's probably not going to happen. I did "ask" one nut to take down his MONDO sign spinning in the sky at about 100 meters, and then he has a skybox at about 150! The sky on those regions is loaded with boxes. Thousands as far as the eye can see, and junk, abandoned boxes and boards... it's crazy. I know this is another thread, but naked women chained up in cells makes no sense to me and brings down the neighborhood. Why don't they go to private land for this behavior?
  22. I live on TeaLeaf and next door is my store on Muskeg. It is on a protected road. This area was just lovely. I was so happy here. It was beautiful and not ruined. The community seemed to care. Well, all that has changed recently. All of a sudden, new people moved in and only care about themselves. They are using way too many resources. The lag is so bad, I can't MOVE. I have a store there and to move is a nightmare for me. Plus, I have 1/4 sim, with house and skyboxes where we work. Looking around, let's see, I have a "garage" with cars spewing out, that NO one rides. Total waste. Lo and Behold, a HORSE TRACK and about a million horses to go with that. Oh, and new is 30, yes 30 skyboxes going straight up from 500 meters to 3000 meters, all rentals and ugly. Oh, the lady with a house full of 'scripted' maids. But what really makes sick is the "slave quarters" filled with naked women behind bars that moved in. Unbelievable. Don't forget the club down the road. There used to be like 10 people on that region and now there is 50 at any given time. Linden Labs checked the regions and said the temp rezzers were a problem but otherwise, they felt the region was running fine. They told me to talk to my neighbors. Right. Until LL charges people by the resources they use, it's just no fun to be on Mainland. It's so sad because it was so charming there.
  23. Firestorm is incredibly slow to log in, log out (hangs on splash screen forever), and nothing rezzes on my lap top (new) and my 2 year old desktop (graphics fan and memory upgraded to support designing in SL). This viewer takes forever to get everything and everyone out of "grey." I have a similar issue with LL viewer but not to that extreme. As a designer, having to wait for textures to load is painful. I think there is a way to speed this up, but I'm not smart enough to figure out the graphics choices. The update for Phoenix is just borked. I can't see anything, and playing with the draw distance does nothing. I am NOT loading that on my desktop. No way. I totally believe it depends on a level of learning something new. Designers and builders spend a great deal of time learning because the tools they use are always improving. Tools like Photoshop, Blender, Gimp require massive amounts of brain cells. A new viewer with new places to find your tools is just taxing on my brain. I'll do whatever I have to do to live and work in Second Life as long as my brain holds up.
  24. Another area that sucks is "hair." All the avatar skins show up b/c they sometimes include hair with an avatar. But I just want HAIR. LOL
