I spotted this fabulous decorating while out exploring near my new home -- super cute IMO.

    Cute Linden Home

I love this area so much.  Tried but failed to get a traditional there with the bridges and water.  Lovely area.  As it worked out, my Hammond Park home is just a short drive away.

Well my sandy beach in the middle of a forest neighbor just took down her build and abandoned. I actually think this is for HER best... because just west of us is a whole island chain of sandy beach houseboats that... if she's not too late, she will get into... Her tastes are PERFECT over there... but were ill suited to Coral Bay.

    Mid afternoon windlight:

    484114ac676b6e85fa914b5fa012d714.jpg

I think it doesn't look as good in day windlight... so I need to think about whether or not I can fix that, or if I should cut it back a bit... will wait to see who replaces the neighbor and hope they build to the local woodland waterfront character... if they do I will adjust to fit.

After all it was NOT my intention to have a hostile build... rather to have one that seemed to fit the area... so I need to spend the next few days making sure of that.

Totally love what you and Coby come up with regarding the House Boat landscaping!  My new Houseboat lot in Alwife faces my Victorian in Dashwood (keeping both).  I kept a close eye on the lot and fortune smiled when it was abandoned and my alt captured it.  I'm wanting to set out a boat & seaplane for play;  might make the water landscaping more of a challenge but I love seeing folks post their work here.

    Evening Star houseboat.

This is my third location for houseboat. First one was in Squishy Pickle, the second one was in Pickle, and this third one is in Squishy Pickle's clone far in the south. First time ever I have houseboat which is connected directly to a piece of land. The first two were in the middle of other houseboats. This third one is the best location what I've had for houseboat.

Coby I Love what you've done with this, may I ask what region this is in?  I'd love to do a fly by for a look at inspiration on a few items  you have (like palms in pots!).  NY eve I landed a houseboat spot within sight of my Victorian so I've some decorating to do.  Thanks!

Took a boat and got an interesting one on Alewife - a region they just seem to be releasing because it is full of green dots. Boat faced the south coast of OLD Belli ... a region yet to be developed. - will keep it some hours ... or days?? - but there seems to be more there - come and get it!

    http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Alewife/160/171/28

Here ends my journey and my game of homes for the time being! A very small boat atoll, backing some sand and full view of South- and North- Bellisseria. Will watch the building process from there a while. Maybe till I decided which of my two Vics to keep and which to abandon. The next likely releases are anyway not regions I am aiming at.

I wish all of the houshunters community a merry new years eve and a glorious year 2020!

I can see Alewife from my backyard!  I've been wondering when the Alewife houseboats would hit the available pool,  I'd enjoy a (hard to get) Square - Corner Boat Dock there, for an alt and a sea plane with views of my house, lol.

1st day of Victorian releases, I landed in Dashwood with a beautiful lot of sand and sea in the back, grass + Driveway + street + Lake/bridge/willows out front with no house directly behind or in front of me.  Reminds me of the beautiful work by the Moles with the Model Homes at the Expo.  The movers still haven't arrived with the furniture, but the landscaping around my Verne is shaping up and a car in the driveway is perfect for neighborhood exploring.

Well, I've added grass to my sandy lot...I didn't consider that out of the covenant any more than any other landscaping, after all it's natural for there to be some grass in sandy soil...I did purchase one Marketplace grass item that ended up being a flat prim, but removed it pretty quickly as it didn't work with the Linden terrain. PS...I'd love to switch it out for some more "mowed" looking grass if I can find it.

    Snapshot_016.png

This looks absolutely lovely just as it is and blends in so nicely!  Various Linden plants and trees in the photo are all shades of green, and living on a North Eastern Coast I see beach grass in all colors in sandy areas.  I wouldn’t mind knowing where your grass came from so I could give it a try, too!

Regarding other's comments:  True, owners that stretch 1 box prim corner to corner of the property line and drop a grass picture on it can at times make the property stand out like a postage stamp on a white envelope.

Not everyone has the budget or experience for more advanced modern landscaping/decor.   Such actions are a great conversation starter with a new neighbor to pick up queues on your neighbor's experience/budget.  It may turn out what you're seeing is the best they know how to do or can afford.   If you don't like the look, one could always drop a dime on some grass and gift it to your new neighbor friend under the guise of “isn’t this amazing I got one for you to try, too”.    On the flip side of the coin, if you come over and tell me I'm driving the wrong car,  my color of grass is wrong or you don't like something on my property, we're not going to have a productive conversation.   When in doubt, AR it as a theme violation, but sometimes a hello neighbor can go a long ways too.

You are describing a private estate.  You might enjoy this one, it's beautiful.  https://thegroveestatessl.com/

Your parcel comes with a home, but you can return it and rez whatever you want, so long as it is nice enough.  They do seasons.

But you have to be able and willing to pay more than a premium membership or three, over time.  Probably in any estate that you would like.

I don't know why LL would provide a place like you describe.  It would be a tremendous amount of effort, to police a high-prim place that allows residents to rez their own places.  Bay City was very diligent in trying to police their very nice city, and it just wasn't feasible.  If LL did create such a place where you could buy in for a fixed fee like premium,  IMHO it also would probably be quite pricey.

Good points, Nika.  Private Estates offer a level of policing & service that comes at a price; they don't stay peaceful and prim clutter free on their own.

Bellisseria resembles private estate lite, a good primer for those who would eventually want more without LL directly competing with income generated from private region fees.  It spawns additional premium memberships, and for established folks, their free 1024 with premium membership is now a new LH, rather than being applied to land tier and thus potentially increasing a monthly tier fee, too.  Win win win on the ledger side and wins for the user's, too.

I traveled South of Bellisseria yesterday and briefly touched down on real mainland.  A good reminder of what real Chaos looks like when no rules apply.  My Main residence & properties are in Bay City.  While I shake my head at the land prices and property barons hording empty lots for some future payday, It has held up well over the years, but again you pay for it.  Bellisseria homes give everyone an opportunity to live in a community setting for a reasonable price.

We do not know that Bellisseria will actually "connect" to the mainland - though waaaaayyyy back Patch had commented something about possible road connections somewhere.

I was thinking that to the North & South of the Bellisseria Continent,  it's now connected Via Air and Sea?

One of the things that made me wonder why they placed the new islands and subcontinents so close to that eyesore mountain. Mainland heritage okay, I get it, but not in front of a place I would want to live.

The last thing that disappear in sight is the default terraformed SL land. To get rid of this mountain, one have to lower draw distance much more than for buildings and privacy landscape elements.

I was curious about that mountain too, so I popped over for a quick look the other day.   Thanks to those who posted about it's interesting history.  I love that the continent will be connected with mainland to explore and in this case, also to historic Mole work that is still around.  Like Luna (early Shopping mall had everyone excited), Shermerville (streets, 512 lots divided by strips of public land)  , and Bay City (streets - canals - parks - draw bridges & double prim land!) , we get a glimpse of past Mole projects and how success from those builds reflect in Bellisseria.

The wind vane turns with the SL wind. It is a top freebie. https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/HVW-Wind-vane-ship-shape/15237414

    I'm good at mixing stuff.

Jestin from IMCR (market listing link above) really does incredible work!  His pathways (1 Prim !) holds up from a distance and I'd have to say his prices should be much higher for the quality you're getting.   His Verne Turret Paint shell is equally fabulous, holds up at a distance,  and remember so far, Paint shells are not banned (Please use responsibly)!

@Patch Linden spoke up in Bellisseria Citizens chat group this morning and cleared up the confusion on this.

[03:25] Patch Linden: What I sad was, when people rubbed color changing shells in our faces, that we should retain the bug that allows for changing the exterior colors of homes to anything they wanted, that the level of customization on these homes is purposefully limited.

[03:26] Patch Linden: So I reinforced that fact, and then said if it continues to be an issue we may consider restricting add-on color changing shells (only and in that context)

[03:26] Patch Linden: That color changing bug has since been fixed, and a re-rez of a home will correct for it.

[03:30] Patch Linden: We've generally (read: somewhat, maybe) been ok with the color changing shells that were made for the Traditional homes for example, people have for the most part made smart choices there, but it could get out of hand.  It's sorta like living in a deed restricted (HOA) community, things should remain in balance and clean. :)

[03:33] Patch Linden: All ya's gotta do is ask me, hopefully I won't miss things, but I'm always happy to clear things up.

(formerly posted this) :  I didn't catch where this topic picked up at, but if shells & add ons are banded, I'll abide by it as well, though it'll be a very sad and blue day for myself, Cian and others.  Nearly 6 months ago now, the Bellis Blues Cafe was designed with a shell and add on, beautifully done, to make it possible to have the blues cafe.  If they're banned, then we'll have to sadly close the doors on this little Bellisseria community get together location, for without the lovely additions that @Chic Aeon designed for the cafe, it just.....isn't the blues cafe.

Regarding the posted chat room text,  an observation:

    1)  I think we can all acknowledge the importance of a covenant to stop "anything goes" in this particular Linden product and expect covenant's to be refined over time.  A covenant helps to protect and provide a better user experience for all, and managing one can always be a fine line.

    2)  "If you desire that level of freedom, then perhaps you have outgrown the Linden Homes product."  I would suggest a large number of more experienced users are flocking to this new product. Their suggestions & experience should summon a response from management based on kindness, thoughtful respect and consideration.  A canned response reply followed up by this next quote suggests a tone of dismissive anger, and throws up red flags.  The  exact reply concluded: "Maybe the next item for us to consider is perhaps a modification to the covenant restricting exterior appearance modifiers further (disallowing Shells)."   To put these two quotes in context (as suggested), they were a  response due to a post that made (passionately) fact based comments & suggestions based on that day's current covenant:

      3) The Victorian Linden Home was marketed  in announcements and chats having new technologies and surprises, and user's only learned what many of them were simply by interacting with their home.   As  it turned out, the interior & exterior tinting was discovered.  Then announced in chat rooms and blogs that  tinting exterior was a "bug", followed quickly by a post (now that it's called "a bug") this was abuse of a bug, a TOS Violation, then dealt with swiftly and examples made of.

      4) Given these quotes and the actions that followed, it could give a home owner (or add-on maker, paint shell builder) pause regarding future builds, especially for the Victorian Linden Home.  By example, a covenant update of something not illegal yesterday could be dreamed a violation by all, tomorrow.

      5) For the followup clarification provided by management:  I would offer that most users were not intent in "rubbed color changing shells in our faces"", but were simply proud of not only their amazing new Linden Home, but of their own unique creativity too.  I don't believe color changing shells were meant to suggest the original work was lacking or designed to offend Lindens & moles.  As other writers have suggested, the current covenant already covers what to expect when things get out of hand, and some have suggested ways on allowing but limiting a exterior tone change rather than all out Mainland freedom.

If the Lindens deem no color shells, or suddenly for that matter no cars in driveways or flags flying from your home, it is of course Their Land, Their Toys, Their Covenant.  The market will eventually decide it's success over time.   Let us all be mindful of words and actions towards others.

We will not be adding the bug back in to the homes as a feature, it is an intentional restriction.

Maybe the next item for us to consider is perhaps a modification to the covenant restricting exterior appearance modifiers further (disallowing shells).

They already zapped my home... 🤬

In the photos I shared, I find the purple ones a bit much, so maybe they were not the best ones to share. I wanted to be sure to find some painted lady victorians that were NOT from San Francisco to show that this is a thing for Victorians round the world.

I would think you could enforce this with a easy rule that the 'color' can only be from the 'bottom third' of the picker - that means less 'saturation', giving more faded colors that don't "blast" people's screens.

If you were using an HSL enter the values picker... that would mean an 'S' maybe under 40 or 35 or so... Folks can try that out here to see what I mean:

    https://www.w3schools.com/colors/colors_picker.asp

In the enter color box, try: hsl(140, 40%, 70%)
    - and then mess with it from there. That's muted colors, so neighbors don't have a freak out. You could actually script that - to have any saturation above 'X' set to 'X' before accepting the value. I picked '40' out of a hat... You can see the photos I posted ALL likely have stronger 'S' (saturation)... but then they also have real life human city inspectors passing by and saying "yes/no"... I'm just recommended the low saturation so that no one has to be an inspector...

That said... somebody DID inspect my home last night and zap it... 🙁

Well, it was great to see what you did with it and what was possible, and I appreciate you showing us your Painted Lady.  Kind of thankful I have photos of mine although it was really just a one slight blue tint over their White siding texture for more of a coastal feel & not so bright.  My Verne has sand and Ocean in the back, grass & lake in the front.  I did test 1st ,and simply by re-rez-ing the same model from the mailbox, it reset everything back to defaults.  In the bigger picture, it's just like having a Home owner's association, and hopeful we can petition this be allowed.

    Ditto for me.

I will point out to the powers that be that on the traditional homes there were add ons for exteriors which changed the colors of the homes. I see this request to keep this feature as no different. If it's allowed to have various colors on the traditional models, it's certainly more in character with a Victorian home to be brightly painted.

I do hope that LL takes our opinions on this request to heart. Perhaps there might be a happy medium that can be reached to satisfy both LL and residents.

I have the exterior paint shells for a Traditional Colonial  and I'm thinking 3 types from 3 different makers.  For me, next door neighbors already had the default exterior colors I liked on each side of me (Just like my Verne!).  for my Traditional,  I set a paint shell around the house, dropped a Linden siding texture on it, color tinted it and had a lovely mocha brown siding that still matched & blended in with the neighborhood.   If we're not changing exterior textures but simply tinting, I hope that becomes the approved happy medium.

@Patch Linden, @Abnor Mole It's a serious mistake to remove that feature.

It went out with the live release, and was NOT stated as being not allowed anywhere, was intuitively easy to do with the color HUD provided, appears connected to the very reason the homes are still 'touchable', and it's very popular.

Victorian homes in the real world have a very long tradition of 'Painted Lady' designs. This part of the covenent basically gives approval of it:

The covenant already covers the risk of bad choices in the consideration note:

    - Right there you basically have the Painted Lady zoning laws of San Francisco. Do it, but not garishly so.

As Nika noted... the response is likely to be a wave of addons and shells that will NOT look as presentable.

Painted Lady is synonymous with Victorians.

Pussycat Catnap,  your response and info regarding the Covenant offers smart food for thought, so thank you for posting as it makes a number of valid points I'd not thought of.  I did the crime and posted photos of it on "The Linden Homes Photo Thread", just didn't realize it was abusing a bug but perhaps in the strictest sense that could apply.  I will admit it was a heck of a lot of fun learning curve.  I'd rather tint than shell any time.    I'll remove my tint when home later day ;(   but I'm hopeful we'll have some sort of tint option in the future.

Well, expert was not something I thought I was! When I see how much flowers you have now, I can say that all houses I abandoned have fewer flowers than your house, and they were also feeling more boxed in. I like the color scheme too, you got many Hydrangeas.

I also abandoned them because some only had stubs of walls. This was before I noticed that the Victorian wall kit are low Li. The low Li Mole flowers was also a really pleasant surprise. I hope the sidewalk texture is added to the content pack soon.

I didn't like the hedges in the Traditional pack, that was mainly because I had big add-ons. Looking out of the windows in these would be looking in a hedge. More rooms and bigger rooms in the Victorians take away most of the need for addons.* My eye measurement say the Victorian hedges are both darker and lower. We need them in the content pack, if I am right.

    * I have started to think about a Widow's walk.

I'd agree with Marianne, not all homes have that lovely view, number of flowers, or drive by appeal.  Now flowers can be a secondary decision, as the content pack does have a great selection, but isn't it nice to have them out already and not impacting your LI.  On the plus side, fewer flowers = you control more of what colors are set out.  Same page with Marianne regarding hedges in the Traditional Pack and for me they tended to be more yellowish.  As for location, just remember they're all a little different but if this one brings you joy, why not stay.
