  1. Like Peewee says, you just never know when you are in the presence of a Linden, because they have alts too. But, when a Linden is inworld, they are represented on the minimap as a dark blue dot, which isn't as easy to see as the green dots that indicate the rest of us. If you use Phoenix built in avatar radar list, the Linden folk are much easier to spot.

A lot of the Linden people go quietly about their business, a bit like the Wombles, cleaning up the mess that thoughtless people leave behind!

I haven't gone out of my way to find any of the above Lindens; they've been there on the mainland as I've been out exploring, and my Phoenix avatar radar list has made me aware of their presence.

You can also go out of your way to meet some of the Lindens at their regular User Groups held inworld.

  2. You cannot, except by not putting it on display at all. Even if you could have a setting that stopped people taking photographs, people can always make screenshots. If your art is so precious to you, maybe you need to consider displaying it on a website with "specimen" placed over it, so that people have to buy it.

  3. "Swingers" get me. Thinking of no less than three men I have met this last couple of weeks who have an SL partner, one has a RL wife too (allegedly) and they have been going through the women in SL like they are adding notches to their bedpost.  Maybe because there are no points to accumulate in SL and they need to play a game, they are not acknowledging that the women behind those avatars are real people (and hopefully some of those women with whom they are playing their game are men in RL).

It's certainly not black and white in SL is it?

Personally speaking, I do not think being single in SL is a bad thing at all, but I do assume that if someone is partnered then they are single in RL, because that's how I am.  I feel really strongly (and undoubtedly in some people's eyes wrongly) that you can't be having an intimate "sexual"/secret sharing partnership in SL while being married in RL. It is a betrayal of the RL partner. Of course there are those who say their RL partner are quite happy with them being with someone else in SL, but I do think that is generally because the RL partner doesn't have a clue what is going on in SL, they just think their partner is playing dolls house!!

Anyway, I don't make the rules, the rules make themselves and it's each to their own.

My own personal experience is that I am happy to be partnered with someone who feels like a soulmate, although quite strangely we spend more time interacting in real life than in SL, and I don't feel the need to say any more than that. My partnership with my lovely Janelle is private and personal to me. I dance with guys - I dance only. If they think they're gonna get any more, then they learn very quickly that I won't be a notch on their virtual bedpost!  Strangely, though, someone recently thought, because Janelle doesn't login to SL very often, and I seemed a little bothered by this at the time, that I would perhaps consider unpartnering her to partner them. I'm not like that. It's not musical partner-box for me, and I don't take being partnered to someone so lightly.

Undoubtedly my ramble is indicative of how messed up my head is about this particular topic.  I just don't think the human brain is totally equipped to deal with how "living" in a virtual world can become quite all-consuming at times, feeding delusions and mental illness also.

    Ohhhh tooooo heavy.  :smileysad:

I'm off out for some botox now. Been frowning too much while typing this wall of text!!!!

  4. Oddly enough, I was having similar issues just yesterday, and your specs are pretty similar to mine. I would suggest you check you have the latest graphics driver as this has worked for me. Today, all is working well again.

I would also suggest you come off the Beta viewer, unless you really enjoy testing. Phoenix is my viewer of choice, and gives me minimal problems.

    Good luck!

  5. Welcome, baron9, to Second Life and the Second Life forums. Its wonderful to hear your enthusiasm, and you will, I am sure, enjoy Second Life and learn a lot.  I've been in Second Life since November 2007, and every week brings with it new experiences, some good, some bad.

Second Life - like real life - evolves all the time.  The only true way to learn about it, especially for a research project, is by immersing yourself fully into it, meeting as many people as possible, and thinking outside the box.  For example, the names you will become familiar with on these forums are only a very small percentage of the people who log into Second Life. Some of these also have Twitter and Facebook, youtube, Flickr, Snapzilla, etc etc etc.  To some, Second Life is very much a social networking site, to others it is quite the opposite, and provides for them a place to have quiet time with little interaction.

Nothing is quite as it seems in Second Life, always be aware of that.  You will not always get true answers from people, and so your final analysis will only be from your viewpoint. I hope there are others at your school who are also taking part in the same research project.  Being able to compare experiences will be very interesting I am sure.

    Good luck to you.

So, I guess none of you people were ever noobs... you came into Second Life fully knowing all there is, BAH... and now you know why people don't stick around, instead of maybe offering to help you make fun of them and
    want to blow them up.

I like cats, but even so a cartoon book about 101 uses of a dead cat was highly funny.

    It's all about context.

And yes, I've been noob (in fact my tag line says still that I'm learning)

    me noob.jpg

Some of my best friends are noobs.  And if you take a look through the forum archives, you'll see I've helped to "rescue" several noobs who had ghosted and were locked out of Second Life.

But there are noobs, and there are noobs, and as well as blowing them up, they make great ...

    pogosticks ....

Sorry for you that you couldn't get the humour.

@Mari : You know what kills me about that montage? The part that prevents me from regaining any sense of composure?

It's that the hair is STILL on the skeleton and you still had the presence of mind to hold onto the umbrella! LOLOLOL :smileyvery-happy:

    Priceless!

:smileyhappy: Hey, I'm like that in real life too when I get struck by lightning !!!! :smileywink:

    Glad you liked.

    Haha that is hilarious.  :smileyvery-happy:

Interestingly enough, the weather system supports lightning feature.

I'm really pleased that you got a laugh out of my pictures.  I certainly had a lot of fun on your land making them, and you've shown that you don't need to own a whole private sim to create something really fabulous, entertaining, interesting, and inspirational. I love the mainland.  Well done, Mog.:smileyhappy:

This is just a regular noob, but I wish I could explode into pieces.

I'm sure I'd do it all the time.  :smileyvery-happy:

Loved your photos - you "noob" haha ;-))))

But you can make your avatar explode. A friend of mine had this from xstreet/marketplace. It's really quite gruesome.

Said friend also had these - exploding noobs

    Which are these: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/SasTech-Noob-Zombie-Rezzer/88146

Extremely stress relieving it is to shoot them into pieces ;-)))))

  10. Welcome to the Second Life forums, tinkywinky.

I'm sure the Linden people with their God tools are capable of doing this, but no, it wouldn't be possible for other people to turn other avatar's into particle clouds, except on your own viewer. That would mean changing lines of data belonging to that avatar, and only those with God tools can make that sort of adjustment. it's very doubtful anyone would want to.  It's more likely that a slight interruption in connection has caused this to happen.

i want to make contact with women on this site-can i do this without upgrading

I am very wary of saying welcome to Second Life and Second Life forums, simply because of the name you have chosen for yourself. It seems others in this thread are assuming you want to make contact with women on this site to "date" them, but with that awful name it looks like you are a cannibal, or perhaps advertising that you are possibly good at cunnilingus (/me rolls my head backwards and laughs a little too insanely). Either way, just your one line of dialogue has made the hair on the back of my neck stand on end - and not in a good way.

Please explain what you do mean exactly by "... without upgrading". Do you mean you do not wish to become a Premium account holder? Or is it that you wish to make contact via this website, rather than actually logging into the main world of Second Life?

Regardless of my own personal feelings towards you already, I am sure you will find exactly what you are looking for in Second Life - even a woman to eat if that is what you enjoy - all is possible in a virtual world where the only limits are your own imagination.

  12. You've done well with your prim allowance. I love the rain - but only in SL ! :smileyhappy:
