  1. I had that happen to me one day, two random naked avatars walked into my house when I was there, complete with flexicum all over the place, and on a PG sim too. I laughed in real life, but all the same thought it was rude and disrespectful, so I said "bye" and ejected them. On the rare occasion I go to my home, I go there for sanctuary and solitude (unless I've invited a good friend round for a chit chat). And flexicum is so difficult to get out of the carpet and walls!

  2. Well, blow me down, Janelle Darkstone - I just the very same moment you were posting this had clicked the "send" button on an email to you! I'm glad you put these photos here, they were such fun to make.

The Anypose HUD is such a lot of fun to play around with.  Ready made poses are fabulous, and you can often get the one you want on Marketplace, but often I want to be able to have my head at a slightly different angle, or bend my leg in a slightly different way, and the Anypose HUD enables you to put your avatar is any position you want, just like you can in real life.

But time sure does pass really fast when you start tweaking your bits for photos.

  3. If they read this, they'll get an extra buzz of joy knowing how much they upset you. However, no publicity is bad publicity, and as Dilbert said earlier in the thread, you shouldn't worry about one *little* person. And I also expect your is not the only place this little person has been banned from.

Put them out of your mind now, and enjoy your venue; don't allow this one person to destroy your pleasure in SL.

  4. Good. Yes. Always be very careful what you accept from others.

My ex-partner used to deform me on a regular basis - using some kind of weapons HUD, which meant I didn't have to click on an "accept" message. And sometimes these deformers are built into objects that people unwittingly touch (I have in my inventory such items, that look like an innocent bed, a dance ball, an arcade machine).

  5. I tend to look first at the "answers" tab to see what the latest issues are, then I click on "view all" in that category, then same for "forums". After that, I tend to take a look at whose online currently and see what they're posting on. Then I usually start responding, and 99% of the time, save the draft and don't post.

  6. There is a lot of mistrust in Second Life, caused by it would seem (a) basic human nature, and (b) glitches in the system.

I never take the details on my dashboard or inworld friends list as the truth, nor am I offended if people hide their status from me.

You can show your valued friend this thread and hopefully she will get a more balanced picture of the situation as everyone adds their input.

  7. I think its incredible we have these sessions anyway, seeing as how we don't actually work for the company, but it is a bit of a problem if you want to give live input and can't attend them.

You could read through the transcripts they all upload after their User Groups and submit any comments/ideas/suggestions on a notecard to the relevant Lindens, or via email if they give it somewhere.

  8. November 2007, and remember the day like I can remember my very first day at school, except on my first day in Second Life I didn't spend the whole morning crying to go home!

I remember going through the orientation process, and was totally unable to detach the torch for some unknown reason.  (I still can't remember how I did get the thing off me).  When I got to the end of Orientation, I was allowed to teleport out into the big wide world, and my home login point became Korea3 (or Korea2), where I met up with another brand new avatar, and we stumbled around together.  Same day we found Noob Island, someone at Korea3 took us there and showed us how to get started with free hair and shape and skin.

Looking back, I remember the first two weeks feeling really complicated, and I nearly packed it in, but I think I had the beginnings of the addiction (!) and continued on.  I would hate to have to be a noob and go through those first few weeks all over again.  Late last year, I began a new account with a "rival" virtual world, feeling the need to "get away from it all", things, people, situations in SL getting me down a bit, and although I knew the basics, because its so similar to Second Life, I just couldn't face getting used to a brand new world (and the things I needed to get away from were with me and not with Second Life anyway), so I logged out of it, never to return.  Its SL or RL for me.

  9. Those driverless vehicles certainly seem to be like (insert name of branded yeast-based product here) - you either love or hate them. I'm in the Cinn camp, and I really find them quite amusing.  I didn't at first, I have to admit, and I felt "stalked" by them, as they don't always stick to road, and I'd find myself chased up a dirt track by a school bus.

The creator herself has said in at least one JIRA that if her vehicles are causing an individual problems then they are free to AR her.

I have more of an issue with landowners who spam me with landmark and notecard information while I am walking down the Linden Highways and not on their land, or those who have ejector orbs, again, set far wider than their land boundary.  But none of these irritate me enough to AR; heck, let's get some perspective and feel glad you're not having to rebuild your house like the poor unfortunates in Japan and NZ are having to do.

  10. Just wanna bump this thread - only just saw it and Keli - you are our Entertainments Manager, and really ought to have a special icon for that! And now I wish I had some photoshop skills so I could make YOU your own personal little Rank Buddy icon.

In this SL mimics RL.  I went to Sea World two years ago for a late spring break.  I have a lot of pictures of ripples in the water where a dolphin just jumped

Its like people never quite manage to capture the Loch Ness Monster although plenty seem to have seen it!

  12. Undoubtedly a LOT out of my depth in this particular category of forum, being a snapshot kinda gal, as opposed to artistically creative photographer, but lighting can make or break a moment, that's for sure. Arriving in the heavens and this sim looked bizarre and messy, but set to midnight, it added atmosphere.

But a lot is in the eye of the beholder when it comes to art, whether photographic or otherwise.  My own personal preference when taking photos of a lot of my ghost finds was the windlight presetting, Nam's skin and prim, which, to me, added an extra "cartoon" feel, exaggerating how nutty being ghosted in SL seemed, rather than being spooky!

Below example shows more of how a change of lighting can alter totally the way a photo looks.

  13. Welcome to Second Life forums, Ches.

Regarding why you haven't received the money yet, its because it is land that was set to group. The money will come through within the next day or so. Did you go out and purchase land straightaway? This again is why you will be charged as though you went into the next tier level. Or you needed to remove the land donation, set to group.

There is more information on the Knowledge base, to be found here... (including a warning about how you can accidentally double-bill yourself) - group land is sooo complicated.:smileysad:
