  1. When I click on my name, I get the same page, but just keep scrolling down the page instead of clicking on "view all" and you will see a list of all the threads you've started, and then a list of all the threads you've contributed to.

  2. Welcome otkplease, to the Second Life forums.

Second Life does not have team points like a traditional MMORPG "game", rather it is a world where you can try anything at all, only limited by your imagination

You should look at the Second Life Destination Guide for ideas and inspiration of all the wondrous activities on offer that you might find interesting to participate in. Please click on the Second Life icon at the top left hand side of this page and it will take you back to the home page, where you can browse all the links.

Also, there are many great video tutorials to be found made by Torley Linden, over on youtube.

  3. It sounds like you were unlucky in your choice of land purchase.  I'm thinking what would I do if I were in your situation. If the sim is attached to another sim, are you able to look in from the adjacent sim and see who it is who is hogging all the sim resources? If it is an Adult club, then all you really can do is sell or abandon your land and purchase elsewhere. But do check if it is bots, because occasionally, even now, people are filling up sims with "traffic" bots, and these can be ARd and removed.

  4. /me waves at the Scout, and welcomes her to the forums - but... I have a furrowed brow... after all, aren't you Scouts meant to be the ones who work in the Support office with all the answers to OUR problems??

    Just wondring, is all.

  5. I am sure if I have put this into the wrong category one of the mods will assist !

Once upon a time I saw a list of freephone telephone numbers that someone had posted for people needing to contact LL from outside of the United States. Does anyone have this to hand please?

    Many thanks in advance.

**** editing question because I can't see a "reply" button under your answer Peewee. Thanks - I thought you would have the info stored somewhere. You are quite an encyclopedia :smileyhappy:

I got a very friendly and helpful operator in the UK. And these numbers are useful to have to hand.

Sooooo, the problem is coming from the LL, nothing else.

You are obviously one of the unlucky ones, like Gia in another thread.

Did you actually see - or know for sure - that your "ghost"/stuck presence was on the "last location"?  When you say "admin rebooted the sim twice" are you (a) absolutely sure they did restart the sim? and (b) are you absolutely sure your presence was stuck there - because I am 100% not, and I am 100% sure your ghosted doppelganger has, for all of this time, been stuck elsewhere on one of your previously visited locations.  You hold the key to this.

If you are still around, force a login and contact me inworld. I will try to help you further.

  7. Welcome Dimalk29 to Second Life forums.  I am sorry to hear you are having such a particularly gruesome time at the moment.  I do have to ask you though, why have you submitted 12 tickets? I mean, if LL haven't read one, they are certainly not going to get around to reading the other 11, and your excess tickets will only slow down the Support even more.

It sounds to me like no one knows where your stuck presence is.  Even LL with their God tools cannot always see where a partial presence is stuck unfortunately, and you are one of the unlucky ones, it seems. Sim restarts always remove residual presences, so the sim where your ghost is has not been restarted.

However, if you read all that is contained within the link given in Peewee's post above - that is

    http://blogs.secondlife.com/message/424221#424221

you will find some more advice - but in brief, have a look at your hard drive for where your Second Life folders are all stored.  There will be a teleport_history for your main account, and using an alt you can revisit all the locations you teleported to prior to having the intial problem 3 weeks ago, and undoubtedly you will find where that "ghost" of yours is.  Then it really is a simple matter of forcing a login, as you have been able to do, and teleporting across right to where the "ghost" duplicate is, and that will clear this problem. As simple as that! The "ghost" is somewhere in your teleport history - its your ghost, and its somewhere you've been and YOU can fix it.

Also, you might want to vote on an Avatar Reset Button - the more people that vote on this issue, or add comments to it, the more chance there is that LL will realise how big this ongoing issue is, and will at least improve Support:

    https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-6602

Good luck, and please let us know how you get on.

Maybe a silly question, but the box next to Show Start Location at Login Screen ... are we clicking it of, or clicking it on?

What causes this anyway. I've been on Second Life over three years and never been ghosted. Have I just been lucky?

The answer is - clicking it on.  Then you'll see an extra box to fill in on your login screen.

What causes this ghosting is when your avatar's information doesn't pass all in one go from one place to the next, either when you're crossing over sim borders or teleporting. Or when you log out, if all the information hasn't cleared completely during the logging out process, please see

http://blogs.secondlife.com/message/424221#424221 for a bit more information on this.

We think of our avatars as being like our human bodies I guess, but our avatars and all the attachments are made up of lines of data.  Certain scripted attachments are thought to be the main culprit that causes someone to ghost (but this is yet to be proven - Maestro Linden is asking for more information over on an ongoing JIRA bug report https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-6193

You might have been ghosted before, but just not known about it.  I can hold my hand on my heart and reassure everyone that the ghosting issue is not happening more often, but we are becoming more aware of it via forums, word of mouth, etc.

And ... now I have a silly question for you. Are you suffering with this issue right now, Viciously?  If so, follow the info in the first link I gave here, and please keep adding to this thread as you make progress. And of course, good luck.

  9. Gareth8 you really want jam on it don't you ? !!!!! (said with a big smile on my face)

But you answered your own question there.

And now I want to know why you want to run more than one mini-map. Navigation perhaps? I know you are a racer and pos pilot/sailor. If its for stalking purposes, contact me inworld (!!!! - more big smiles on my face).

I'm going out in RL now for the next few hours. That's quite enough mischief from me in one day!

Oh the joys of SL ..I was to the point i was ready to just give up but you helped me ..I just kept logging in after logging in till it finally decided to work but again ty

    Hi, D,

Your name was familiar to me, so I took a look at your profile. You've ghosted in the past also, a couple or more times.

Maybe you would like to take a look at these current JIRA/bug reports...

If you would like an Avatar Reset Button, to enable you to be able to simply click a button and clear your own ghost, please vote on this issue: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-6602

Maestro Linden is asking for personal accounts of ghosting experiences - please take a look at this and add your own comments: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-6193

The more people who vote on and add comments to these JIRAs, the more chance there is of LL working on either fixing or getting more Support for this issue.

Until today it has always been true that restarting the sim fixes the problem, but now 2 people have said that hasn`t worked for them, so I guess we have yet another anomily in the Ghost problem...We can`t win lol

Restarting a sim is the only surefire way of removing ghosted avatars. When people are saying they have had a sim restarted and they are still ghosted, its because they have had the wrong sim restarted.  Often people believe they must have ghosted at their last known log out location, which is often not the case.

Don't believe everything you read - unless I wrote it

And keep doing what you're doing, Peewee, you are fab.

  12. Super duper, Hotrod! I'm pleased you have been able to log in using the technique recommended. Did you also locate your ghost? Its important to do so, or you will continue to have the same problem next time you log in.

Keeping fingers crossed all is 100% OK with you now.

Marigold, I've watched you help SL residents, with the ghosted avatars, over and over. I wanted to thank you and tell you that it's very kind of you. Until today, I haven't seen how one looks like. It's kind of freaky. Every day in SL is a learning experience, especially in this forum. Again, thank you.

The ghost-thing is perhaps my substitute for stamp-collecting, started off really as something to do as a wind-down activity before bedtime, but as with a lot of hobbies (obsessions?!) its grown to something a little bit more than that.   It is a freaky phenomenon, that's for sure

I'm pleased you're having some enjoyable experiences inworld and on the forums; we've all got the capacity to learn new things all the time, and I think we certainly get plenty of food for thought within these discussions.

  14. P.S. Ban, I went to look. Your ghost is just in the next sim to Sonogno. Exact location is http://slurl.com/secondlife/Callisto/1/65/82

    Ban ghosted.jpg

The quickest way for you now to fix this is to either

    1.   Contact Live Chat and ask them to restart Callisto region.

    or

    2.  Follow these steps:

    (a)  Bring up your viewer screen BUT DO NOT LOG IN YET

    (b)  Change your login start location (to do this click on "edit" at the top of the log in screen, then "preferences", "general", and tick the box next to where it says "show start location on login screen", click OK/apply)

©  Fill in your normal name and password details, and now where there is an extra box, type in the sim name of Furball (this is an empty Governor Linden owned sim)

    (d)  Now try to log in. Please ignore the message that may come up on your screen and ignore the time in particular.  Just keep trying to log in, and try, try, try. You WILL be able to log in between 1-30 minutes.

    3.  VERY IMPORTANT.  Now use the slurl above to take you to where your ghost is. When your real avatar gets close to the ghost, the ghost will disappear.

  15. Welcome to Second Life forums, Ban. You should always submit a support ticket on this issue, inform LL that you have a stuck presence that is preventing you from logging in, and with their God tools they might be able to see where you are on the world map and free you very quickly.

There is full and up to date information over on this other forum thread. http://blogs.secondlife.com/message/424221#424221

Please keep this thread up to date with how you get this issue fixed. And good luck.
