  1. @Peewee I must admit, I don't understand what you mean. To add an outfit, simply right-click of the inventory folder and select either 'Wear Items', 'Add items', 'Replace Outfit' or 'Take Off Items'. Yet, no matter what outfit one is wearing, the AO continues to work. The AO normally contains all the possible animations one might want to use. It runs in the background and can be ignored once installed (unless one wishes to change poses, which is done via the hud). I can't see any possible connection between AO and clothing.
  2. Well, if we are going for status, we definitely need a luxury rating:
  3. Short answer: no. You have to take the house that comes with the land. Long answer: it depends where you live. You have a choice of where to own land in Second Life. You can live in a Linden Home on a Linden-themed continent or you can buy land on a Mainland continent. For more information about land in Second Life, see: http://deltango.wordpress.com/2010/12/04/a-lesson-about-land-ownership/
  4. I may be missing something here, but why would you have outfits associated with your AO? The two things are completely separate. Your AO should contain only animations. Outfits remain in your inventory. I'm probably old fashioned, but I use the Zhao II hud with 1.x viewers. Phoenix viewers have a built-in AO feature that works on the same principle. In my case, because I go back and forth between 1.23 and Phoenix, I simply use the Zhao II hud. It's on all the time, never a problem. Changing outfits has no effect on animations. Changing animations has no effect on outfits.
  5. @DQ "the "clubhouse" card" One thing I tend to forget - but it's always a big factor in text-based dialog - is different meanings ascribed to words and phrases. Here is what I meant: Clubhouse = lounge, foyer, agora, cafe, community center or neighborhood pub/bar. A public space open to all that acts as a meeting place. I'll go back to the OP and add a note :smileyhappy:
  6. There are some obvious mismatches between posters and their 'rank', which makes me question the entire ranking structure. Best to get rid of it. Just show our SL birthdate, post count etc..
  7. I wish to begin with a post I made in an earlier thread concerning community feedback: ------------------------------------------------------------------ @ Amanda Manual quote: "Hey all, I wanted to address the "General Discussion" Forum question that has come up. Our goal with the Forums is to keep them as focused and constructive as possible. Although General Discussion no longer exists, we're always happy to create new Forums when the need comes up. That's where the Forum Feedback section is critical. We'll be watching it closely and adding new topic-specific Forums over time." Reply: The General Discussion forum acted as a focal point for the community, like a clubhouse. By removing the clubhouse, the community is fragmented into a wide variety of sub-fora. There is no center, no heart. Admittedly, there were two problems with the old GD Forum: 1) AR-griefing, such that everyone had the power to AR-Veto anyone else. 2) Overzealous moderation by Linden Lab. These problems can easily be overcome by eliminating the AR button and hiring experienced forum moderators. As for the kooks, preachers, sore thumbs and tin hats, the community tends to 'self-moderate' them through peer pressure. I therefore suggest Linden Lab take this opportunity to create a functional GD Forum. ------------------------------------------------------------------ While I am delighted with a general discussion area, the two problems that plagued the old forum persist. 1) Many posts (some of which were innocuous) have been AR-griefed and auto-vetoed without notification or explanation. 2) Off-Topic threads have been closed for drifting "off topic", which will likely become the new textbook definition or irony. Unless these problems are nipped in the bud, the effectiveness of this new resident community communication system will be greatly diminished. The current format, while slick and professional is certainly less convivial, which, coupled with the learning curve of the new software, tends to discourage participation. If, on top of that, we are back to AR-griefing and poor moderation, I believe those who have the most to offer will be the first to leave. In other words, bad drives out good - a classic organizational management and customer relations problem. ------------------ Edit: By 'clubhouse', I mean lounge, foyer, agora, cafe, community center or neighborhood pub/bar. A public space open to all that acts as a meeting place.
  8. The Phoenix viewer has this capability. No matter which group you have 'active', prims will rez based on the name of the group owning the land. For example, if your active group is 'Dogs' and the land is owned by the group 'Cats', when you rez a prim, it is assigned to the group 'Cats' and will not autoreturn.
  9. Okay, if there is active AR-griefing, lets get proof and post it. Alternatively, we can forward the info to Linden Lab. I know of several external fora that ban such people. Perhaps Linden Lab should do the same. Edit: @DD Yes, good point. Best not to post it in the fora. Instead, send proof of AR-griefing to Lexi Linden directly.
  10. I can live with bugs in the software, but if it's AR-griefing then the technological effort of renovating the communication system seems pointless.
  11. I noticed the Strengthening the SL Community (revisited) thread is locked. This follows a rash of unexplained missing posts in that thread. Is there a problem with the new software or are we back to AR-griefing?
  12. Yes, this sounds correct, but I believe one is offered a choice of supplying the names of three friends OR having an email sent to your email address with a reset link.
  13. ChuckBaggett wrote: I do not enjoy seeing animated gif files in forums, they wear out their welcome in one cycle at most Agree. I find flashing images very annoying. Thankfully, one can at least disable signatures.
  14. Edit: It makes far more sense for SL join date to be displayed on the avatar instead of the date one joined the old Jive forum. SL birthdate is: 1) Universal - a common denominator for SL's subgenres (blogs, fora, SLA, SLM, Avatars United etc.). 2) A benchmark with which to measure one's participation in SL. For example, a birthdate of 2004 with 3 forum posts provides a wealth of information, as does a birthdate of 2011 with 350 posts. 3) Easy to maintain across applications. For example, the date currently displayed in this Lithium software goes back to the installation of the preceding Jive software; it does not go back to the earlier vBulletin software (which, incidentally, displayed SL birthdate).
  15. I remember sometime back an announcement in the blog that one could join certain SL communities or knowledge groups in the new forum system. I have looked around for a couple days, but I can't find anything to join. Are there any 'members' out there who can point me in the right direction? I am in the amusing situation of being unable to add to the knowledge base until I become a 'member', but I don't see anywhere to sign up. Edit: It seems that 'Member' is forum rank or status symbol. It does not describe membership in a group, which, intuitively, I was expecting. Perhaps a better term would be 'Contributor' or 'Active Resident'. @ Joshooah The user groups appear to be nothing more than inworld office hours, which were never productive. I had hoped there might be a way to join Linden-related consulting groups.
  16. As there is no 'website feedback' thread, I am posting this here and in the forum feedback thread. I have two suggestions: 1. Create a Website Feedback thread in Community Feedback for issues universal to this software (such as this post). 2. Move the Community Guidelines link (top right, between My Settings and Sign Out) to top left (above the Second Life icon). The Community Guidelines link is quite wide/long and, In its current position, takes up a lot of valuable real estate and is easily clicked by mistake. One might want to visit Community Guidelines once or twice a year, yet the link occupies the most clickable section of the screen. Much better to move it out of the way to a more appropriate location (above the Second Life icon, top left). Edit: I see point 1 has been solved Now for point 2: I'll raise it in Community Feedback.
  17. "I think most everyone lost post count. Probably had something to do with the ranking and promotion or something. I'm not really sure." --------------- - trying to figure out a better way to do quotes All the closed threads and their posts are no longer showing up in search or in personal history. I figure the closed threads were deleted, bringing down post counts of anyone who posted in them.

  19. I have written an article explaining the types of land and land ownership in Second Life. Rather than cut and paste the article, I will point to it here: http://deltango.wordpress.com/2010/12/04/a-lesson-about-land-ownership/

  21. In order to have a complete 'avatar', one must get past a design and terminology problem. An 'avatar' consists of three parts: an icon, a badge and a background. One can upload an icon in the Avatar section of Preferences, but one must go to the Social Connect section of Preferences to choose a badge and/or background. If the background is dark, one's name does not display.
  22. Amanda, Thank you for this post. Things need to change dramatically at Linden Research Inc. - and they need to change soon. Communicating with the residents (your customers) is the first step in this process. Regarding inworld group meetings, they are, in my opinion, poor methods of communication. Far better are the blogs and fora (especially if redesigned with professional software). Regarding Facebook, the whole point of being in Second Life is to get away from RL. I wish one day, Linden Lab could understand this.
  23. I posted this a few days ago. I'm not surprised by the numbers. http://deltango.wordpress.com/2010/10/26/a-proposed-land-tier-fee-schedule/
