  2. The status blog says it's all over, so hopefully it will stay that way.
  3. I'm sure it will - hopefully today during their working hours, because nobody was working on it outside of their standard working hours last night. Or it looks that way, since the last update to the status blog was at 5:18pm yesterday - round about the end of their normal working day. The recommendation remains - "don’t rez valuable (no-copy) objects or transact L$ or land yet." which applies to everyone, but it seems that's not an important enough problem to have people trying to fix outside of normal working hours. What other company would knock off for the evening and night with such a major problem in their system?

After about 10,000 metres, desperation set in as I realised it wasn't doable. It seems unattainable, which is sad as I'd quite like a little 512 up there, to get away from it all. Oh...sorry...wrong universe It's too far away to be reached. It's further away than even the stars. If you watch it, you'll see that that the stars pass in front of it instead of behind, so goodness knows how far away the moon is - and how big it must be for the distant stars to pass in front of it.

  6. After a good night's sleep, I wake up to find that it's still not resolved, and it seems that some regions are "unable to return from restart". This is an unusally long problem.
  7. I wasn't watching but I've changed the thread title accordingly. Someone said that they've closed logins again but I just ran one of my bot programmes and the first one logged in without any difficulty. I logged my main in while the going was good and I've been using it to work on a script - editing, testing, and saving without any problems. I haven't tried to TP anywhere though.
  8. Although there is nothing on the status blog to say everything is back to nomal, I altered the title of this thread to reflect that we are able to log in again.

FS also likes to crash if your mesh upload settings are the slightest bit off For quite a while, I'd thought that temp uploads were local and I was surprised to learn that they weren't. They only need to be local, imo.

Sy Beck wrote: They will only tell you something if they can pin the blame on somebody else (another company), they would never tell you about a DoS attack or that a cheap piece of junk they've bought has just been fried or that some server monkey unplugged the system to charge his iPhone up. Brilliant! It made me laugh.
  12. evoluchun1981 wrote: but that dont help the people that jsut rent ingame from people the days or hours we lose after paying anyways No it won't but when this is over, it won't really matter because these things usually last for just a few hours at most.
  13. There is a period of downtime, after which LL does charge less for the month because of it, but I don't know what the period (or maybe it's a percentage of downtime) is.
  14. Lexbot Sinister wrote: By they way, does anyone know if ANYone at all can log in? Or is SL down for everyone? Whats the concurrency? Nobody can log in because logins are disabled, but there are still plenty of people in who were already in when it happened, including one of my alts, so tjhere's plenty of concurrency although I don't what the number is.
  15. Thinkerer Melville wrote: Profiles also broken. I hadn't thought of that. The first oddity I had was when someone's profile wouldn't open. Soon after that I couldn't TP home, but I hadn't put them together until your post.
  16. I wonder how many people, including people who have posted here, are sitting with the viewer open and clicking the Login button every minute or three - perhaps in a race to be the first to post that it's over
  17. Maybe the marketplace purchase was made that finally broke the whole camel's back (the marketplace part of the camel was already well and truly broken).
  18. Vania Chaplin wrote: Anyway, "and last but not least: why they can't set up a normal forum with normal software???" That would be too easy, and the fun and surprises? They did. And a few years later they scrapped it in favour of this pseudo-forum and its predecessor. It's Linden lab, for goodness sakes. What do you expect from them? Sense?
  19. hehe. We started threads at the same time, but yours was posted just before mine. You won!
  20. I'd TPed to a place and was going back home, but I couldn't TP back home. So I logged out to log back into my home. I'm still logged out, of course. My other av is still logged in.
  21. From the status blog:- Unscheduled MaintenancePosted by Status Desk on April 26th, 2012 at 07:21 am PDT [Posted 7:20am PDT 26 April 2012] We are currently undergoing unscheduled maintenance. This may cause some Residents to be logged out or prevent some from being able to login. Please keep an eye on this blog for updates. So don't relog or you may not get back in for a while - which is how I came across it :(
  22. To be honest, I don't consider flying in a no-fly zone as cheating anything. Anyone can do it and most people who can do it actually do it quite often around SL. I don't think they'd think of themselves as cheating anyone or anything. Not everyone knows how to do it, of course, but not knowing how to do something is not the same as it not being possible to do it. So anyone can fly in a no-fly zone. LL hasn't made a rule about not flying in LR so anyone flying there isn't cheating. They are using an advantage over some of the other players but it isn't cheating - and it isn't immoral. Cheating may be descibed (somewhere) as "an immoral way of achieving a goal" but being immoral (or even unscrupulous) isn't cheating either. Ity's only cheating when it breaks the rules to immorally achieve the goal. The reasons that LL had for creating LR don't come into it. I made a camping system and set up some camping chairs. If that's all I'd done, one person occupying several chairs with several avatars wouldn't be cheating, even though I intended it to be used by one-person-one-chair. But I made a one-person-one-chair rule that is shown to everyone who sits on a chair, so anyone using more than one avatar simultaneously on the chairs is cheating - because of the rule. Whether or not LL's reason for LR is "fun" doesn't really come into it. I expect that those who use speed to beat others to the crystals, find it as much fun as those who move slowly to find crystals.
  23. The question is, what is "unfair" (as in "gain an unfair advantage")? If there are no rules against something, then everyone can do it, so I don't consider it to be unfair. I don't consider anything that gains an advantage to be unfair as long as it is within the rules - and definitely not cheating. To cheat, you certainly have to break the rules of the activity - taking a shortcut in a race, for instance.
  24. I'm a Brit and I like being a rare breed. It suits me well
  25. Qie Niangao wrote: I'm surprised it's taken this long for the LR game to become unplayable -- and I'm more surprised by the low-tech way people are still using to reap the crystals. I'd expected there to be special-purpose bots, long before now, that would scoop up the crystals as fast as they can rez. If the other, "cheating" players are still able to respond to you, however, they're not just bots. Ah, the good old days You reminded me of a pre-internet time but still a time when there were the odd multi-user scrolling text adventure games - generically called MUGs or MUDs. I wrote a script in Telix (I think that's what it was called) to auto-collect treasure much quicker than people could do it. I called it 'Autowiz' because gaining treasue (points) moved you up through the ranks until you became a Wizard (Witch for females). It's nice to reminisce sometimes
