I'm late to this thread, and I don't know if this has been said before but, imo, the real secret of Second Life is its ability to provide a pleasurable pastime plus (and it's an important plus) the ability to control the environment in which to enjoy the pleasurable pastime (i.e. create or go to an environment of choice). That's not a secret to its users, but it is to those who don't use it, so I claim it a secret ETA: it might also get the topic back on track.
