  1. I never said I speak for those who support LL. My race has nothing to do with anything being discussed here and you are out of line to introduce it. I have no idea who you are or what you do or don't do with regard to the Second Life platform. I have not made any reference to you personally except to say that you seem to be violating the Community Participation Guidelines.
  2. In my opinion, the money a person spends on Second Life is an entertainment expense. In a very loose sense, I guess one could say they have "invested" in entertaining themselves. However there is no contract explicit or implied for any return on the money you spend to participate in Second Life. You are not an employee or contractor due any payment. You are a customer. That's my opinion. As far as the phrase "just shut up and do it" being an attack of some kind, in my opinion it is no more offensive than the phrase "just shut up and dance." You may consider that a personal attack on some group too, I have no idea. I already apologized for your appearently very delicate sensibilites and I don't think another apology is in order.
  3. You have dumped a pile of unsubstantiated accusations and slurs on me that are completely off topic. I think this is against the rules, isn't it?
  4. The precise reasons some people have left may well be known. A calculation of which customers are expendable may even have been made. Linden Lab may know they will lose certain customers through certain policy changes. It's their call. There are choices Linden Lab could make that would cause Second Life to be useless to me. I won't argue with them about it. I will move on, find something else to do. But so far the choices they are making suit me. I like Homestead class sims. I'm happy they sequestered Adult content. I'm happy they have allowed teens into the Main Grid. I'm glad they continue to tinker with their various technological improvements. Even the thing with Facebook is ok with me so far. I think it may tend to clear out some of the crap hiding behind anonymity. I just wish the land didn't cost so much.
  5. The time and money you spend on entertainment is an expense, not an investment. Linden Lab is not a bank. You don't earn dividends or interest on the money you pay them for their services. I apologize if the wording "just shut up and go do it" is too strong for you or if you take it as some kind of attack directed at you personally. The statement is not directed against anyone in particular, and it is certainly not directed to you.
  6. Opensource, I agree. These are people who have already chosen to not be customers. The resources and effort it would require to try to change their minds would probably be wasted. It makes a lot more sense to focus on those who want to use the platform rather than those who don't.
  7. Why are there so few posters offering a reasoned defense of LL's policies? The reaction in the blogs and forums to any show of support of Linden Lab policy has tended to be extremely negative and abusive. I support a change in policy to enforce the Community Participation Guidelines so that everyone is free to express their opinion without risk of personal insult and harassment. On the topic of Linden Lab products and services, my main complaint has always been that the price is too high. I am delighted with the technology supporting the platform even as it continues to lurch forward unevenly in its development. I am excited to witness and experience what I believe is the dawning of a tremendously useful and entertaining new medium. I'm not going to throw rocks at Linden Lab. I'm not going to heap scorn on them for their accomplishments, which are clearly beyond anything anyone else has done in this field. I get tired of listening to other people insult the company and its employees. I think those who are extremely dissatisfied with the virtual world platform Linden Lab offers should go make their own damned virtual world platform. If you think you can do so much better, just shut up and go do it.
  8. uh, ? I guess this is the kind of stuff we need to get rid of in the forums, right?
  9. They may have ignored you, but that doesn't mean they ignored all of their users.
  10. Some of these people seem to think they are speaking for everyone using Second Life, but they are not.
  11. I think the blogs and forums will actually turn out to be a lot more interesting if they stay on topic instead of derailing in personal attacks that have nothing to do with the discussion. Not as sure about a rule where you can't say anything negative about the company or the platform, but that kind of stuff does go over the top into abuse sometimes, too. It doesn't make sense for LL to provide a place for people to call their employees names.
  12. I should also mention if you post to the blog again after deleting the thread listing, the listing will automatically be regenerated and will need to be deleted again.
  13. I found a way to fix this. It is actually under Your Stuff -> Profile -> Manage email notifications. There is a list of threads you have automatically been subscribed to receive emails with checkboxes. You can check them and then delete them, and ta-da! The emails stop : )
  14. Great to hear new and improved means of communicating with LL are being developed. I am excited about trying some of the new things such as User Groups. I will admit I am especially delighted to see Community Participation Guidelines being emphasized. The ongoing abuse of and in the forums and blogs has been disappointing. I would love to see even the rules as they exist now followed, but improved guidelines that are actually enforced to keep blog and forum discussions constructive will be a very welcome change. Thanks
  15. There have been other events that required the use of Facebook or flickr. There was a Valentine's Day event last year that required posting a snapshot, for example.
  16. I want to enjoy pay-per-view sports events, first run movies and live concerts with friends in SL.
  17. A computer game can be described as entertainment whether or not it contains an element of user-generated content and whether or not it has a business or educational aspect.
  18. Do you know where the Linden Homes sims fit into this and how many sims that is?
  19. Nelson, if you are going to inform us of the income, will you please also inform us of the expenses? As you know, most of us suspect we are paying too much for the services Linden Lab provides. It would go a long way toward promoting good will among your customers if Linden Lab can offer a reasonable explanation of why land prices are so high.
  20. Fredrik, Will I lose years of notes I have compiled in the Profile / Notes and Privacy panel when we switch to web-based profiles? Profile Notes are one of the most important ways to keep track of the hundreds of people I have met in Second Life. It smooths the awkwardness of needing to ask someone who the heck they are when they contact you out of the blue months later. It's a good place to jot down email addresses and phone numbers, or the last time you talked to an avatar that has been sitting unused at the bottom of your Friends list for months.
  21. It looks like groups set to not show in Profile are still listed in the web based profile.
  22. And, on a different note.... WHY the bleepity bleep does this blog STILL default to you receiving email notices of every post here after you post? I have to come in every time and turn it OFF again! I want to turn it off and have it STAY off! I think I have finally figured out how to do this. The control is under My Stuff -> Profile -> Manage Email Notifications. There is a list of each blog and forum thread you have commented on. You can individually select them and delete them, and they seem to stay turned off at least until you post in that thread again.
  23. Performance Improvements When Teleporting and Crossing Regions... um....What's up with all the new "No valid agent id" errors when I cross region boundaries? I end up partially disconnected or in a demi-crashed state and have to reboot. This is happening at least once a day on my own land now.
  24. Those are great suggestions, Serendipity! I'm inspired to add one of my favorites to your list : ) Please give us html formatting on Notecards! Or any kind of formatting, please. Even bolding and tabs, anything.
  25. What the heck, Too late to worry about endless email alerts now. Dear Mr. Humble, I am so glad you have joined us! What a wonderful Christmas surprise your arrival is. It sounds like many Residents feel as I do that you represent a very bright future for Second Life in the coming year. My wish list for SL includes a revival of customer service and support. The level of response has gotten so low that it is really disconcerting. If something serious goes wrong I am afraid I will not be able to get any help with it. I have been waiting for more than a month for a botched region order to be straighted out. The mix-up is blocking progress on a time critical project. I have been filing multiple support tickets and calling Concierge, and the problem just continues to sit there, apparently untouched, day after day. I have heard other people complain about the same kinds of things. This is a complicated program. Your customers need to be able to get reliable help with it in a timely manner. Responsive and reliable support is part of what one would normally expect for a service that costs this much. Thanks, Nany
