  1. I have not read anything of new materials. I have mentioned it way back on the old xstreetsl forums...wow, that was a while back. I figured they need more shiney control and an ability to use a different texture for bump mapping. I think I also complained about not having specular maps.

If you think about it you can see the ease in just giving more shiney control, another bump texture other than the one you are using for main texture and maybe some kind of more advanced bump map at that. I mean, that all seems pretty easy enough (well, easy compared to making a procedural system or making some kind of harness mapping and allowing like 10 layers with each layer allowing different reactions (specular, harness, diffuse, glow, etc.) and so on. Just adding ONE change to allow a texture that is not the main texture is easy compared to all that. Adding more control to the existing shine is not so hard at all. So....well....I can only assume this is the direction they might go.

I have seen the new shiney in the new lighting and shadow rendering and you can see that the new shiney and light and shadow all sort of are a beginning to a new look in SL and the full potential of windlight being seen/realised. Hey, add to that the DOF camera fuzziness (wow, that stuff is neat. I smiled when I saw this one.

SL is moving toward becoming a leader in mechinima, IMHO. The camera control, the lighting and now features like DOF are all very much stuff that is going to make much more artistic stuff. Any new materials help to make movement and moving stuff and looks are the main reason people use SL, right? The need to chat can be handled by text through IRC or forums et al. Not only that, but even voice or video fill peoples need to interact with a human. So, the fantasy and visuals help out and the better they are the more you can express or emote from the experience and all within the shell of fantasy so you can step away and be removed to aid in healthier mental health BUT be engaged, unlike TV where you are more passive. Maybe it is all bad though, maybe we will end up total SL junkies and all be on TV as they remove the wall from our rooms to pull us out and load us up for emergancy liposuction. :P OR, we end up super skinny supermodel types due to not wanting to leave the PC to eat! I figure it all just makes it more fun, so I will paly around with it and excape my increasingly upsetting life and watch shadows roll around as I move the sun with a slider and dream a little about the neat mechinima I could make if I had a better PC OR find one of those TV in cards and use the svideo out on my present PC....which reminds me! I need to do RL stuff...wow, I am time wasting agian.

  2. If you are a avid HUD user you can help me and all of us by letting us know your fav huds attach point!

So, please tell us all where your your HUDs are attached to. Oh, yeah....'Please'...I forgot to say please!

Um, well...ok, yeah...what attache points are in use is easy enough to see via the right click on your avatar and then go to attachments or 'take off' and then list them all here please.

I will start...um,um... NONE! I don't wear a HUD often and take them off when I drive anyway. I also use default shoes and have only like 3 or 4 prim object attachment (helmet) and...well, yeah I am hardcore about lag reduction with my avatar, most of the time. Sometimes I doll it up and have fun looking at it and will drive with it to (flexi prims when going a medium speed are neat) but most of the time it is hardcore lag reducing. My arc is very very low!

  3. For structures? Many use prims and I think that is for a reason.Prim Composer allowed people to build in 3ds, prim.blender allowed building (but no texture mapping directly on those shapes...they are sort of representative of SL prims but lack the UV mapping ect.) and I think AC3D allows build export to box prims or triangle prims. Once again, not sure of AC3D's ability to export textures with that build, I am almost sure it does not do that bit though.

So, for textures with lighting...um, many use photoshop and use the lighting effects and basically make it up. That is why you see EVERY single floor 10.10 rim with a light under it and no light or window up above lol. GImp has a lighting effects filter/plugin thing right out of the box as well. Um, it is harder to understand and you need to think of light and how it is entering the room and where each texture will go ect. So, this is not for everyone.

3D renders might work. You model whatever you want that will translate to prims (one way might be to basically make the build in world in prims, take pics and use those as references to recreate the look and add some details etc.) and then render from all angles you need. Maybe remove or make invisable (cast sahdows only in blender) or whatever in order to get all the images for all of the faces of the prims you are working on. Um, ortho camera settings might help for some stuff. I mean, there are lots of details and each build might be unique. I tried this and I will say one word. Tedious.

I never did get the build done. It didn't look so horrible, the parts I got done at least. But it was hard to sit and wait for renders and try not to get all the bits mixed up and being restricted to boxes because I didn't want to mess with unwrapping textures for sphers and trying to make the work in SL. I can't figure out the mapping and there is a reason why I have never found a set of objects in a .blend file that have SL's prims texture mapping. I think it has to do with how the mesh works in blender or the UV options....I am not sure. But throw in a face cut or hollow in a prim and you are totally getting different mapping and ALL of those things would have to be made into a set. Then you would bake the textures and use nodes to get diffuse and then again for specular layers, combine those two layers. It is tediuos unless you have the workflow down and down right impossible to get a texture mapped to a hollowed sphere baked out...well, I say this but I spent all of like 20 minutes trying to figure it out...so, you might have more luck and be a hero. prim.blender will not bake textures BUT will make objects you can paly around with if you shut down the prim.blender script and work on the object as a normal mesh object. The rest is tediousness until you are happy. The results can be nice, I got a few walls and a floor with a post in the middle of the floor....um, it was alright! Throw in suclptie furniture you made and baked with teh shadows built right into the floor and you can maybe make a dramatic scene.

The reason I sort of don't play with all that is two fold. One: to tedious for a non selling product. Two: SL has new shadow, shine and lighting that are becoming less and less buggy to the point they are very usable for many peoples GPU's. So, the bynamic shadow and lighting sort of clashes with existing shadows. But I will admit....the textured in lighting does have the advantage of always working for all GPU's and does add a nice touch, if done with the right contrast so the avatar does not look as it spot lights surround it with no shadow ect. from those spot lights. Hard to explain, but you know what I mean.

  4. I know I say this alot..but, I will once again say it again. You can use Blender. Yes, I am not joking! Blender has a video sequencing set of tools. It has transitions (like, glow, fade and so on) and if you look into adding particle effects or some additions with 3D animation bits compositing or whatever. I don't do this stuff, I just sort of see this stuff and go "wwo, neat!" and have played with the sequencer when I was trying out video's in blender for anim reference (another neat feature, you can use not only images as a background ref BUT video as well) so....yeah, you can sequence some video in blender. I guess sequencing is sort of editing, but I will add that film editing is not the whole point and this stuff seems to be added in order to aid compositing (IMHO) and I am sure there are lots of tools you would NOT see in here. BUT, for those into blender and know a bit OR people looking to add particle effects...um, it might work out well. But I do hear people who do compositing talking about using a tracking software after the render thier stuff in blender. So, I assume blender does not do this well at present. I am out of my knowledge base right now, so I will stop typing more of my ponderings and explaining what I DON"T know lol. :P

EDIT: I forgot to mention Lightworks beta offering! I have nothing to tell you about this one, I heard of it through a 3D magazine. You must register to get this. So, well....up to you if you want to try it. It is beta though, so remember that. But it is something used by bi gmovie hotshots, so they say! Award winning ones and they say wonderful things about it! So, it might be worth it to someone who knows how to really use this type of thing. I just play around with this stuff and still have much to learn about film editing. Now...um, sound is something I know a bit more about. If you want music that is orignal but can't play or get a musician to make custom bits I would suggest checking out Acid Loops based stuff. AcidXpress is free and will intro you to how it all works. It has restrictions, but you will see the workflow and maybe be able to try your hand at it before investing. You buy or make loops (great if you have limits on how long you can play an instrument or make alot of mistakes and don't wish to keep "punching in" parts BUT you can still play well enough to make small bits, riffs and stabs!) and ....well, basically you paint it all in and this is starting to drift off topic a bit I think. So, anyway....there is a few more that might help!

  5. I am not sure if anyone has suggested or thought about this and will apolagise if I am repeating anyone elses ideas, thoughts or hopes.

OK, some online marketplaces work with software companies to integrate thier marketplace right into the software. I beleive SL does this now with it's marketplace.secondlife.com marketplace. But, these ones work with software companies they do NOT own and they work with a few.

So My (now obvious) question is this. Wouldn't it be easier to work with a few warehouses to integrate thier marketplaces and also in turn allow them to store some kind of ID to spot things (via vert/face arrangement etc.) and since at least one of those markets also converts models they would be able to possibly offer this service to thier creators. This culls all of their stuff, makes it to where LL can work out a license with them and thier creators AND it obviously might make it easy for SL creators to possibly offer thier creations models right on that site to non-SL use AND have SL covered.

As it is now it is hard to make something for an online market and then sell it here and expect people to understand that when they are selling a model in SL they are selling the model and NOT a greater work..in fact, some license changes would have to be made for those creators who want to sell thier models both here AND offer the same model for others in other creation edevours that do not at all mingle with SL market. Why do this? Because why not! It boosts SL content quickly, lets SL creators now moving into 'normal' 3D modelling to work both markets and not have to create 2 versions, an SL version and a lesser quality (if SL is a major income) model that will invariably end up being bought and used by SLers as it will most likely be also available in COLLADA due to the formats rigging and other features that let the model be sellable beyond SL.

Heck, maybe there might even be a non-SL market for sculpt maps since we have more and more services using the opensim tech and SL style systems might get a boost! A simply 3 step proccess that loads your sculptie creations and charges a quick fee for listing (obviously splitable OR simply goes to LL due to the marketplace getting all the commission..or they might even split commission a little?) um..well, this is all details that mean nothing BUT are obviously teh hard part. But the linden dollar purchase of those 3D objects might really be appealing because some do not want to cash out linden dollars due to fear or worry of taxation. But, I figure someone would have already figured out this and never mention it...but, since it might help create a easy way for SL to get those marketplaces to make a database of some sort of mesh ID system...well, it might help SL creators who make mesh. Really and truly, they are game content makers or 3D cg model creators and letting them sell and keep it all clear offers models for BOTH markets in a much easier to understand way for those most likely to commit copyright infringment! But, really and truly....well, who cares about them anyway, right? Just upset them by sending a DMCA based notices when they basically are just sick of reading fine print and are more or less innocent?

I figure it is a way to easily do a few things that are all a Win win.

First win: Content increase with easy way to keep honest people honest! Happy people is good!

Second win: Both marketplaces being slightly integrated makes it easy for both markets creators to easily get licenses and so on all sorted out and also earn via linden dollar sales for items they might not otherwise have sold. Plus, SLers can offer items easily and safely with a licence for OpenSim users.

Third win: LL gets commisions somehow, stays a bit sticky with creators since some have sort of 'left' for opensim and now they can easily convert and maybe even keep stuff here without needing to run a marketplace.secondlife.com magic box thingy. In otherwords, they don't log in BUT they can still offer thier objects. So instead of lossing rent AND commision they lose rent but keep commission. OpenSim items become profitble via a upload to third party fee from your inventory directly or something like that!

Fourth win: The third party marketplaces can make money via extra sales and also have a new market becasue people who are spending lindens sometimes do not make them into cash and go through all the struggle of converting and uploading. They simply spend it on something else or never spend it. Of course, this does not benifit LL who can keep the money after so long and doesn't care as long as they spend it and buy more Linden dollars. BUT, since LL can win with retention of products and also attract more creators who will pay more upload or conversion fees....well, it is a small loss form dormant accounts vs. population keeping and growing content increase and activity increase.

I will also attack my idea, just for the heck of it! This is all hinged on data I do NOT have. I have no data on demand for any of this, no clue how valuable conversion to SL formats wll be and if creators will bother to convert and list (even if it is like 4 check boxes to get it all done) so.....well, this is a shot in the dark based on noticing software from marketplaces integrated into software AND a hope that a good "mesh ID" system can handle most uploads so people can upload with no bother and no worries for creators.

  6. Rushing? Should have been in form day one. There are other worlds that build this in and build a whole world in the same time we have seen LL make mesh. They already said what the problem was, and lets face it....well, people have been just really pushing sculpts to the max the past 2 years. They really have come along way in some respects. I just think the effort was not enough, it wastes to many verts for some builds. They ended up now offering .dae in some fashion and that will make the sim more likely to be accepted for investment by corporations.

To be honest with you, I am already happy enough we are allowed to test it all out and open beta is here! What I want to know is.....

:smileymad:WHEN IS THIS SERVER SIDE RENDERING COMING OUT!!! WHEN,WHEN WHEN!!! I WANT TO KNOW NOW!!!

Now THAT is the thing to nag about! Heck, we can throw up some links to articles at peoples blogs, "other 'marian' world refs" and all that and keep the nag working on these guys till they see we really want this option! Wait...I will maybe never use it....well, still! It is new technology for SL and we want to see it and press it's buttons and watch it do what ever it is that it does..right?!?! But that is just me I guess. Heck, I lagged my way around another virtual world and could barely move...but wow, it was neat anyway. I can't use it due to the lag and GPU being to wimpy...still, I read about it and see some images and so on! it is neat to see all this build. That is all. The nagging DOES help, it is faster than looking up and reading the meetings minutes!

  7. Since this is a related question I will ask it here. My questions are: are any pets feed optional, a phrase I made up right now to sort of describe them. Um, they can be feedable to give them traits and feedback, but you can choose to not feed them. Also, are any feedable but you don't have to keep buying the food and just use a never ending feed box/can/sack/container or a food bowl you just click and it fills?

For anyone saying, "What is the point of that" well..they are not breedable, so no earnign ='s no need for investment to game with. They are Role Play, the same as ones that are non breedable and do not eat to live. BUT, if you want to have it be hungry, it needs a caloric usage and "feelings" system. So, you can see that I am purely looking at this for a totally causal gaming slant of just keeping up with it and it can die. Of course, like most games, you can reset it without paying for another. So in otherwords, a truly RPGP, a Role Play Game Pet system.

I might ask this in a thread seperate, but since people are discussing this I thought I would ask since no one mentions this feature and I was thinking it might be pretty neat to see this in either pets or even role paly environmental animals...like killable hungry rats that sneak into your home ect. or live all over a distopian city and can bite you. I would just liek to see them and maybe buy one for a game, though I have tiny amounts of money to spare (like 100L-500L) so...yeah, thought someone might have seen these and it is related. Thanks for any responses, and please please don't hijack the thread and anser OP for me! I doubt it will though, because I haven't seen any of these when I looked a year or two ago.

  8. Cna you imagine the upset of people buying things on marketplace.secondlife.com and getting a pile of traingles? Of course, if SL detects objects type in the magic box then no big deal....but do you really think they will do that or change LSL to make it able to seek through all prims and find out if there is any mesh items in there?

But, you are right...99.9% percent of SL will be still usable and viewable and we see blobs sometimes anway because of stubborn sculpties that stop loading now and then throughout the server upgrades we have endured.

  9. I think they sort of like being a sercret or only let die hard fans search them out. I know some people really hate the n00bs and don't have time to clean up and point to rules. So they leave it up to a freind to introduce them, or the ones who really really want to drive and will most likely only rez a vehicle and have something to talk about other than just gamers looking for free cars and leave SL a week later after getting sick of lag. Plus, you can imagine some people don't want compeition lol. But these are all impressions and I sort of look at the stats on this forum and laugh because many will also see it as just a waste of time, which is why they never announce in teh events place? I rarely see anything other than the gaint snail race and chalk it up to them just not wanting to waste time with typing it all up. Who knows, either way....you are right, even if you tell them they will most likely not see an increase in enjoyment, sales or whatever it is they measure an promotion effort "worth it" to engage in. Anyway, have fun...maybe one day I will see you on the track. But for now, I have to slow a network and PC plus other issues effecting my will to participate.

  10. With it being a toon I would think there would be more of a stereo typical loaf with a sort of rounded rased top ect. Plus, we all know it would be a red/orange cat and a chiwawa in that shot as well...or maybe a superhero toastman himself, right? Powerdered toast is maybe different from cinnomon toast though..hhm.

But it is like...well...like a cracker or some kind of thing. So I say wafer, because crackers are sort of flatter. It could be a sqaure chip/crisp type of thing. Maybe it is the monsters religious wafer...never thought of that! Maybe it is a sugar packet! OR maybe he is an action hero and it is a peice of paper that holds a key to some amazing....object. It can save the world! OR maybe it is just not a round thing. I have a feeling it is a non TM breaking hint or inspired creation that is based on a monster that really likes cookies. But, we will never know...maybe that is the art of it! It is nothing, just not a circle and not chocolate chips!

EDIT: OK, this is now looking like a thread hijacking!

So yeah...how about those liers, huh! Ok, now we are back on topic.

  11. You might have more luck in this forum: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Second-Life-Viewer/bd-p/SLViewer

But, then again there is a developers part on the wiki, I think. It tells you all about the SL viewers architecture. Wow, I forget about that and should read that myself to figure out something about animated textures vs. prim animations I was wondering!

So, here is teh link I am looking into myself (but for different info BUT it seems to cover some of that stuff): http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Second_Life_Develop

  12. This reminds me of monks who balance on spear points (or was it swords) and attache bowls to thier bellies and use suction to as a form of ....well, I guess pain or they hold it on there and it is fatigue that we are supposed to be in awe of? They are weird, I can't remember what they are called at the moment. But they are wacky, but we are supposed to be not laughing at them and thier ancient form of...well...sort of like this!!! Their leader must have had a sense of humour and they all kept thinking he was some enlightened guy or something lol. But there was a basis to it and it was about defense, since they where practicing thier martial arts and other feats of macho sillyness we are supposed to be in awe of because it is anceint lol. But yeah, the guy would hold a weapon and the guy would lay on it with this belly and then balance on it and hold himself there without getting cut ect. He was basically almost doing what these guys do. But the new planking thing seems to be way more like the pancake on the rabits head bit....just not so anceint and tough looking. I always laugh at some monk pushed around as he holds the end of a spear and tries to slowly balance on it so the guy can't run him through lol. Crazy useless stuff that is sort of more funny but I am supposed to be in awe lol. Planking seems to be reaching that level...will people think of it as a religious thing 1000 years from now? Why the heights? If you just plank smaller items you will not fall far? Some people dont' understand spirit of it all and just go for height? :( I mean, planking off small stuff looks like you are hovering from some angles....that is cool enough, I think. Oh well. I never was cool, so what do I know?

  13. This is a rather old post (as far as the OP) BUT, I have been here and enjoyed the place!

OpenSim. Rezzables has a software to help them move to an open sim. They have nothing there that open sim can't handle!! It is a prim and texture build mostly, windlight is in opensim as well. There is Zero reason for them to say this is dying, they just are ending it...which means they are killing it.

oh, "...can be measured by the vibrancy of its art and culture" This makes me think of a Art Index and we can value ALL locations by thier art factor...or "Scylla's Artistic Worth Index" S.A.W.I....hey, a tag line "Saw U the SAWI! SEe I, See U see the SAWI TODAY!!!" Wow, that one is really bad...ok, moving on..uh....ok. Yeah, it has a slight ring to it though...The SAWI. Sawee is the way it can be pronounced!

Yeah, this thing would be amazing! Schlla could get a flame post going on almost each addition to the list as you work out the top 100 artistic endevours in SL! People would have broken teeth and healthy colons from all the popcorn they grab.

I would love to read 10% of those threads to, which is all I can muster sometimes. I would read them and laugh, think Schlla av is pretty and the person behind it is so smart and seemingly caring...WOW, I almost want to marry her!! Even if prim hair is far lower poly than real womens hair! She can jump  right off the screen and down the isle(wow, a land mass instead of a pathway in a church!! Yeah, a whole island is our chapel!!! Ok, this is where I stop editing as tears blur my vision from laughing at myself for being such a loser with the english writen language!) with me! Then I remember I can't due to being stalked by maniacs and all the voices and so on....BUT, it is a funny thought due to my general lamaness and total lack of a college education...I could sit and listen to her talk to people and look up the words on a laptop and laugh and then walk off and shout at the walls when the voices say something that sounds like they are arguing or insuniuating something about it I could scream "It is HER name on teh index, so you can see this is obviously HERS and anyone who thinks it is some kind of official government based index would be silly...no one will put you iin jail for disagreeing you jerks (*&%86F#$*) ARGHH!!" and then I will go and walk around eating crackers while she continues talking and debating at a coffee shop tiny table thingy...I will drop crackers as I mumble and looked angry at a post and start pointing and sayiing "You keep putting your words off this post, you made me spill me crackers you freak weird *%#$@ ARGGHHHH" and it would be awsomely wierd.....I mean, of course we would sleep on seperate sides of my dungounless castle (no, I don't wish to be whipped and such....I just like the security a good mote and a heavy draw brindge can provide....plus, schlla can really get some flame wars up....we have to be careful!" /me laughs and then wonders off to go look at car pictures and stop thinking about women and how funny they are and how cute they look as I curse genes and glands that release chemicals to dope my mind into digging the knife of lonliness far deeper while I also wait for the twist...slowely wishing I was dead...then I laugh and go look at pretty flower pictures and think of monster trucks bouncing through medows with little flowers and funky looking grass churning up as they happily bounce along and take a bit air when they hit a depression deep enough...."yeah, when life gives you depression...drive a monster truck through it!" I say while forcing a grin and try to feel the chemicals of fatique wash away somehow by trickery and monster truck imagery.....I usually take out the

  14. I think it is worth commenting that they might have meant Ambient Occlusion, which is a lighting feature in blender and other Rendering Engines. Sometimes people will just call it "shade map" or something, but others might say "AO map" and these are with sculpty maps so the purchaser of a full perms or mod sculpt item(or just the map) can use this layer in a image editor to ad some that lighting effect in.

But, AO is a phrase used 99% for Animation Override in SL. So, they might of meant something else...but I don't know what the context was. That being said, you can make a set of animations to add to a AO HUD or other attachment, but there is a huge difference lol. It could be a texture or a Animation they where referring to...buy yeah, blender can do that.

If you are interested in blender for animation you will need 2.49(a or b) and a file from Tentacolor for exporting .bvh files from blender. It is a blender .blend file and you will need to fire up the script and it uses blenders rather complex and heavily featured animation tool set! It has a few neat features but has a learning curve, like many powerful softwares for 3D do.

  15. Wow, the forum avatar/pic wafer monster is becoming popular now! it was just me and a linden that I noticed using it....this is like the 4th or 5th forumite who is using it now! We can't all be the wafer(which are not cookie) monster! So, I guess this world is not big enough for the several of us..I will simply have to make one...but like tommorrow or next month. Until then...Yeah, the wafer sales must be increasing...or square cookies...I never did find out what that thing is.

  16. You can use 'sculpties' as well. They are more flexible to work with than what are known as 'Prims' in the SL world. I reccomend the wiki and Torley's Video's.

Here is a link to the wiki's Creation Portal: http://www.youtube.com/secondlife#g/u

To Torley's Videos at Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/secondlife#g/u

Next, find a "sandbox" via search and go out and build some things. You need to use linden dollars to upload 'sculpt maps' to make non prim shapes and also to upload the textures. You can buy textures from in world texture artists, or buy libraries ect. and load them up if you get alicense from them. Of course, you can simply make your own with a camera, procedural (genetica is neat for this!) and bake whatever you have in blender or render and then use a photo editor to prep themfor prims. Prims can be a pain to texture, so I advice seeking out Robin Woods in world place and web tutorials: http://www.robinwood.com/Catalog/Technical/SL-Tuts/SLTutSet.html

Basically, sculpted prims will need some special plug ings and scripts if you want to go beyond using the in world build tools. You will need to use one of the softwares for it or also you might benifit from using a in world tool that converts prims to coordinates to help make sculpties. There are a few tools in world that do this and some specific software all available at the marketplace.secondlife.com website (the official Sl marketplace online) and well...from all these tools you will sort of have to find which ones work for you. I will give you a quick idea of what I use and my thoughts...but really, this is personal and I make certain shapes and my best stuff is not made yet as I learned 3D while making my present objects for sale...so they are...well, rough and not reflecting my present skills. BUT, as far as what I use and like for making sculpties: Blender(2.49b) with Domino Marama's Primstar 1.0 script/plugin is my main sculptie tool set. I also have seen the Scultp Studio in action and it's output and like the way it handled the rool cages and moto frames I saw. The exporter for blender I tried (pre-Primstar 1.0, it might be better or I was missing something in teh technique) didn't do the rollcages well on my cars and I have seen people do better with Sculpt Studio. For textures I use Gimp and also blender materials and baking using the sculpt shape to get ambient occlusion and shade or shadow.

  17. You could make a online indicator type of script that sits and acts as a 'server' and when you log in it checks this every x seconds or you can click it (clickign it is way way lower lag) and it basically checks when it last communicated and when you where offline or online ect. and you then can do whatever you want from that data. But, more or less...well, you are running a timer every x seconds and that is a tiny bit adding to the lag, but I mean...it is not like everyone in SL is not running timers. That being said I think some AO's' might do this to overide all other animations that come along ect. So you wil not be any more a blight to your neighbour than many others are.

Um, but yeah...you can also modify the open source veiwer code and make your own viewer with some code that is sent to a server and that server sends a signal to a in world prim based 'server' that talks to the HUD.

  18. Mesh is still in Open Beta testing. The stuff you upload with that special viwer are not connected to the main grid we all use daily!

So, if you still want to try and learn about mesh and test out stuff, you will have to visit the mesh forum and get the veiwer and the info and it will log you into the beta grid. From there you need to open the map or use a slurl link from the wiki to find the mesh sims. If you open the map up, just type in "Mesh" into the search box in the map window. You will see sims numbers and named like "Mesh 24" ect. Teleport to one of those and you will then be able to upload a compatible Collada file (.dae) and so on.

I reccomend the wiki for info on the format and how it all works, as well as any vids and the mesh forum here at the forums all have help and helpful people.

  19. I don't think the reaction is to be hateful toward you, It is more that they fear for you. I mean, back in the days (in the 90's) people trusted a lot and thought no big deal about info and there where horror stories. Heck, I even read one today where 3 teens hunted some dude down after robbing him when the poor guy responded to a classifieds ad they faked to lure him! THey shot him dead! If he had of questioned about the laptop a bit more and maybe went with a group of people instead of alone (sounds like they where preppared with three because you know most people will only go with one other and even then they dont' have guns with them...the teens did) and I mean....babies on the way screams vulnrable to an extent, as well as maybe needy for money and wanting to sort of pulll people closer as you have the difficult times ahead with trying to raise a kid ect.

I mean, the horror stories with ZERO internet to hide behind of bad spouses is crazy. 50 percent divorce rate in the US, wher you can argue it is just more able to because there was historically more jobs available ect. so....wow, people are really sort of fearing for you a bit.

I mean, the funny thing is you might be a like angry dude who sat by and watched all these losers marry your girlfreinds after "stealing them" and the last one used to say she was abandoned and find guys to have sex with. BAM, he assumes the same story and is like "Oh, I lied because it is like my boyfriend is ignoring me so much he has abandoned me even though we sit in teh same room right now!! Beside I love you now!" and then the poor dude takes the bate! He goes to meat Sam...but Sam is a 6ft 8' angry guy with a club foot and not job and seeks vengence on all of the slime bags who would cheat with his ex...or at least thier kind and type!!! BAM, a big fist up sid ethe head and some wierd guy wonders what the hell wrong turn he made and how he just insulted...."I am SAM you idiot....surprise, surprise...you ended up on your back and on both knees crawling away for you life instead of on one knee to make a new life!! HahahahahaaaaggghGHGHGGHHG :manmad:"and then he pulls out a big butchers knife!!! :o /me hides under desk and wonders why he ever logged onto the net today.

BTW, I doubt anyone is offended....although I should I  be? HHhhmmm...

  20. /me gets done moving cats across the midwest plains to a new catnip field

What, you never hearded cats and drove them before!?

/me calls midgets with tiny basset hounds and whips to speed up the straglers and chuckles "More unbeleivers Earl, can you beleive it!"

I know I did sctipting for someone and I also know that 10USD$ can buy some food. I mean, a can of food in many countries must be less than 75cents US dolllars, right?  But SL at the library? Gosh, a freinds house? Can't they feed them lol? I guess 10cents of electricity is no biggy, but yeah,....some don't have themoney for food as they spend it all on neet connections to live a cheap social life in SL. Seriously, you can sit around in no clothes and post ect. and have far less laundry bill then going on. Heck, you end up spending all day on SL anyway right...so yeah, might as well just not go out and hang in the house and peel off that last pair of pants you wore for 3 days..1.3 the laundry expenses man!

Anyway....back to hunt for cat rustlers and other scoundrels of the cat **bleep** valleys I must stay in until mating season is over./meturns to earl and shakes his head "Hey Earl!..yeah...that's right Earl, that one doesn't respond to whips, give him a phone and tell him it's the IRS"

  21. 0_0 don't laugh at super computers, there is at least one online game that used super computers(s) and you yourself can start getting old pentium 4's and stringing them together with some snappy network gear and make one in you spare room..supercomputers are here AND the newest ones fit onyour desktop! Heck, even china has super fast supercomputers and even GPU cards are being used to help create supercomputers. Everyone is getting them, it is only a matter of time you have 10+ parrall CPU cores running in your home AND two or three GPU chips doing double duty for some tasks!

Maybe you know this and figure they are testing that new server side rendering stuff and have those 15CPU core desktops ect!!!

I bet they have wicked fast bandwidth though, they don't have as much stuff to deal with and wicked low ping times I bet! One day I can imagine someone sneaking in there JUST to load all thier fav stuff and make funny machinima with like100fps on thier secret supercomputers with super insanely fast GPU cards that cost more than some peoples entire desktop system!!! YOu know secret stealth helicopters drop in new GPU's at night and they also have secret curriors carrying extra CPU cores smuggled from the factories prototype labs to...right? I think I might have said to much already.../me drops from wire and slides out of vent and runs for cover as teh security cams roll around to sweep the area.."I hate dumpsters....ugh, goulash special in the cafaeteria :( This aint gonna dry clean out..."

  22. Um, I like LSLEdit, teh eclipse thing looks neato and I can't be bothered to set it up and I use the fastest to use on this PC with is a highlighter file from schill for a text editor!

I remember one guy had the build stuff so the internal LSL editor could be built stand alone! This is neato and really my fav would be a offgrid stand alone sim on my PC with full physics and LSL in it. But last I heard the only way to do that was the HUGE corporate grid offering LL used to sell..way more than I can afford. The opensim stuff I tried, but they have very little that helps me and I read up and see they are still (obviously) not using a Havok clonish implementation close enough to allow me to make physics items and that is most of what I do! I don't finish a lot of projects but I do work on stuff and try things out and one of the reasons I use an external editor is the colors in the new lsl built in are a bit terrible. I can't see the find highight very good...not sure why.

LSLEdit was nice and a simple fast install, so it used to be my fav. But now it is all sort of online to play with havok and oflien to clean up or rearrange and then dropped back into inworld items.

  23. People are always upset with expensive software, so I will post this link for one I have found for very low cost (considering) http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7040856&CatId=4434

I am not sure of TOS at the forums here, but I think this is appropriate and I do not work for these guys, buy at your own risk ect. It is 29.99 and many price comparison sites will bring up low costs on Poser 7.

Now, Poser 7 Pro is a bit more, but that is maybe not so important for SL pre-mesh and maybe not so important post mesh since there are no rigs for objects and blender seems to be getting a little help from LL and others to be working well enough for the new mesh attachment avatar rigs ect.

  24. Um, if you are using the .blend file from tentacolor website you will need 2.49. I mean, that is maybe not true now IF the owner of that script and file has made another or someone else has a new version. They said they where not maintaining it way before blender 2.5x was in RC.

BLender 2.49 is easy enough to get at the site though, so no worries.

  25. I seem to remember FIA signage up at the last classic car club track...I think that is what she might be saying. Technically, if you have no FIA approval then it is not the "real" F1 racing track? Not sure, not even sure if they are allowed the signage lol. But, anyway...yeah, isn't the season out for RI and they are doing oval track stuff right now? Wow, I dont' really pay enough attention and chicken out on participating :D

Millenium, you are saying they should...but did you tell them of the thread? I think 99% of SL does not at all use the forums on a regular basis. I think there is like 100 or so people who you see post here on amonthly basis..though I am making number up and it is not even a real guestimate. All I know is I see like 20 or 30 names here I have seen before BUT not many more! I also know I don't check every forum each week and also do not look at all names and sort of might have 2 avatars mixed up here and there...so I figure a 100 or so regulars with a whole bunch of one time to 10 posts a month posters that don't use it but for a purpose and will never see this forum lol. You will need to ask them I bet...or simply ignore taht and list it all yourself in the name of journalism and freedom of press!?
