Also, it's not saving some settings (ie you can tick "Don't show this again" when you're taking a TP or logging out, but it won't save it for next time you log in).

I have noticed this too.  Noting more frequent "region having trouble..." disconnects and such.  But if there is not now (or never was) any way possible to have a general public user on a never-cut-out internet connection because there is a list or reliances per viewer a mile long that can cut out at any second, then I find it difficult to blame the cloud.

Though I have asked myself out of curiosity, has Amazon built into things a way to clean up the bottom-line, by building in auto-disconnect triggers, by their own definition of user "inactivity", regardless of any setting of "never" in the viewers for timeout and away-logout-timer.

my connection to the sim doesn't affect my connection to the website. The music stream (which you can't hear) didn't stop either, but after I paused it myself I wasn't able to resume it.

Makes perfect sense thank you!  Thanks for checking!  It just never happened that I actually tried that before, and I thought the firestorm "pop-up" telling me to quit or check chat said similar to [check my internet connection] which to me mean disconnected from the internet was the cause.

What actually happens is entirely dependent on how Firestorm programmers have defined that behavior.

Yes, no way to know that outside of that group.

  3. Hoping for some understanding of how/when viewers dis/connect to the internet.  Not a complaint or an issue, and Firestorm is mentioned only because that is the viewer I use and saw this in.

    Today:

    • So-when I am logged out unexpectedly using Firestorm viewer, we/I am asked if I want to view IM and CHAT first before quitting.  I usually say no what the hey right, and I log back in whatever.  Today I just happened to be typing in what I *thought* was a viewer-managed "browser" window in an avatar profile in the "Notes" section - you know the window: the browser that we cannot drag "outside" the viewer, when this surprise-disconnect of the FS viewer happened.  K so what I see when the viewer disconnects on me unexpectedly: The FS viewer top right X turns to a red background indicating (my words) a weak internet connection for 2-8 seconds or so > I see viewer visuals go generally grey-overcast like usual > I see tiny pop-up window offering to see IM and CHAT or just go straight to QUIT, and I still have that viewer-browser window open with half text still there but not yet saved... So I thought oh man do not make me type that again and in the profile in the viewer browser window I take my chances and click the [Save} button, and shock-of-shocks it works!      Works = after the FS viewer tells me I have disconnected, I can both view nearby chat and also type text entries into the profiles form box and click save on the web profiles page, over and over, and it saves successfully (on the live internet page).  I mean, either I am disconnected or I am not was my guess, but that seems not to be the case.  Surmise:  I am not "disconnected" from the internet "please check my connection" - I am instead disconnecting from something else in between... Noting that in this state I realize/cannot travel to another web page profile I can only edit in the one that was showing when the viewer froze/disconnected from something... but that still indicates something in the viewer is still very connected to the internet enough to allow me to edit and edit and resave again and again..   Not expected, but this is not my expertise, and I am now intrigued how the viewer can disconnect from the internet, but not disconnect the browser it seems to rule.  Adding if the Firestorm > Developer > Show Info > Show Time (fps) means anything, then fps is not the trigger for what cuts me out. Though I recall the ICK days of 20 fps average sighhhh, on this pc generally/today I am 100-140+ fps easy.  Until something triggers a surprise disconnect.

So after all that blah blah, the question:

If I am being disconnected from FS viewer=SL because I have lost a connection to the internet,

and the FS viewer internal browser window is controlled by the FS viewer,

then why would I be connected *in the internal browser* enough to keep typing and keep saving new info typed,

when the viewer managing the browser has said I have lost connection to the internet...

Is the viewer's internal browser managed by other-than-the-FS-viewer (so it has a stream of its own maybe, but the viewer graphics do not)?

Is the timeout span on the FS/SL/viewers shorter/cuts out quicker, than the separate stream/timeout on the internal viewer-managed browser and its contents (including my accessing the web-based profiles)?

Initial raw guess would lead me to ask - if I have edited the default viewer PORT in the viewer, would these two run across two ports and maybe one port is struggling when the other (internal browser) is not?

Grateful for anyone who might offer a short perspective, of why one could stay internet-connected enough to still edit/add text, but the viewer otherwise has frozen is not functioning and seems like it has already logged me out of SL.

  4. Yah see I thought I recalled the free body was never advertised as a demo, and at the time that meant to me take it as a freebie, count blessings, whatever doesn't work well you know the old saying, and if ya get more, well then yay for me :)))

So I just loaded the body up, used the shapes inside (small aint small to me though smiles).  Honestly all those skin tones included in the free are really super (compared to what I recall in the olden days were included in stuff - used to take me forever changing bodies!).

    So to OP @DarkEmperor13

This HUD suggests you can ROTATE THE BODY front, back, yes even the free body, from within the free HUD, and actually drag the areas you want to alpha out.  [[I thought whahhht?!]]

I suspect if I tested that it would not be quite that simple, I mean ya gotta read and try right, but it reads like the intent is that it should work just that way.  Course that doesn't help if you have e.g. a T-shirt with short sleeves that cut right into your arm...

but wow is that the only body with drag-alpha ability?  Call me duh, but I felt very taken care of with Slink all these years, and with full-BOM Slink Redux, of course I can make alphas and right-click ADD.  Grateful for that because I just grrrr when skin sticks through!  But drag and erase just seems like the ultimate dream if it works like that!

In the LiveHelp group just now (see MESHBODY website), I got detailed answers pretty quick, including it works in the free HUD too.  Of course, detailed answers given happily in chat help means when I asked I expected to received some documentation and take the time to read it... and I did, and I will, and it isn't even my body.  I remind myself that customer service folks don't write up documentation because they're having a good time doing it, its because it is cumbersome (and let's just call it prolly NOT entertainment time for them) to answer over and over very lengthy answers freehand to every customer that comes to chat. I get a lot more quick, detailed, happy, answers from sellers of high-end products by letting them know I will do my part (read) along side their responding to questions not answered in the documentation.

Recommend joining LiveChat second life group for answers:  https://my.secondlife.com/groups/8068d711-193b-9ce4-e91e-4caaac454163

You know, just my twenty-five-cents-worth of course, and test avi/he's still neh-kee in front of me so I haven't tried to find clothes to cover him up yet, but if even some very basic jeans and shirts are available that work, this free classic body (with an SL head), is a nice giftie.

I have since shelved the legacy and went back to my maitreya because of all these branding issues make finding clothing hard to do.  The body looks amazing but I cannot walk around naked all day and very few outfits fit well.

I feel for ya, I do, no question.

I did get the free body to test and check out possibilities.  I asked a few questions and got pretty detailed (=no time wasted I can move forward) answers pretty quick.

I cannot recall with great detail, but was the "free" body ever advertised as a "demo" for the new Legacy body itself?  I may be wrong, but it looked like there was a separate Legacy "demo" body?  I haven't been back and am running out of time today even to check again, but if there is both a free body and a Legacy newer-body-demo, then it might be a loss to go straight to judging the Legacy body as well.  I suppose at the time I saw free as giving new avis a chance to have *any* upgrade to the System avatar and let them get a taste of at least a step in the right direction.  I kind of left my testing of the free body with the feeling a generous seller shared an older free version with no benefit to the seller.  Knowing there are a lot of things over the years from MP (my primary purchase vehicle) that have just been pulled, disappeared, and sellers no longer offER them (or their redeliveries), when I see someone offering an older version now free, I am generally impressed.  Given they don't have to.  But I certainly understand the frustration, the naming, and the time lost on figuring stuff out.  I remember those days and I sure don't want them back.

  6. I've learned to ask myself:  How long does one watch a JIRA, support ticket, etc. - anywhere not just SL - before one recognizes that response time is relative to the priority that company has already decided to set the issue at.  No response or fix for 4 months? 8 months? 12 or more months?  It may set the world on fire, the break, but if no response, fix, or resources have been assigned to it or communicated in [ ] months it becomes pretty clear there has been an analysis and it was decided there are and continue to be more important issues to devote time to.  To each his own level of hope, but for this I would likely fall in the 4-ish months group.

You should have posted more since 2010

    True that!

From sensitivity trainings over the years I morphed into trying not to subject others to my lack of a sense of humor totally boring streams of consciousness, so its a bit of a blessing thus far that I haven't posted much really

    I could turn block-worthy!

ADDING: I can hear the moans of no, please, do nottttt

ADDING2: I just reread this thread's keywords, LOL, spot on!

+ADDING3: Dang, I could have posted this in three posts and ramped up my post-ism-forum-math-thingy!

That's another one I forgot about, good one!

This is a Peeve of mine if I focus on peeves,

because looking at those in the forum I might think are (momentarily?) block-worthy

they have already received that forum benefit (to change that text),

but (whine, whine) it is taking me forever and I am *not anywhere near* that number.

The math is just wonky I tells ya's 🤣

  9. omg i have to come up with another one?  swimming in the negative eek i'd rather live in the absolute denial of human lunacy...

Peeve-new:  Math and the forum ratings.  Ratings give benefits to those posting $%## just by virtue of hitting "Submit" regardless of [ fill in the blank ], but those of us that try to post added-value stuff (I said try lol) have to work and work and work just to get the total number of posts up to get added benefit?  Pandemic-weary of being an Advanced Member of Advanced Age and Advanced Patience in a world which continues to reward those who scrap more than think. 😫

    Bada-buhm-bum

*Disclaimer-don't even think this is about *you*, cos it ain't quite likely, it ain't I tells ya, everything ain't about you, its about me seeeeee

    Seriously though, the math, really?

and they have been doing this since

Yes, aware.  I am testing for something unrelated to what I know is this expected behavior, and only asked for any settings available in the event I could change the setting during testing for rule-outs.  I asked for the settings only if they were even available at that level, and thanks to those who shared.

auto-collapsing the Quote block as opposed to wholly hiding it.

Said forum does the latter in addition to the mentioned bits and boy oh boy does is mess with the thread flow! makes some responses seem .... disjointed.

Picturing the latter there and yes I see what you mean, if there were a succession of several blocked folks replying quickly together, then it would be hard to follow the next not-blocked short reply.  Though some of those kitty pictures speak for themselves :)

Another Forum I frequent does something rather similar to that ... and frankly, I personally hate it as it goes so far as to hide entire threads if started by someone you've put on Ignore.

I so agree, I wouldn't like that at all!  Thread manually per thread, yes.  Auto-block noooo.

Blocking, if individual user is all we have, should be both the *text* of their direct posts (not the title though), and any quoted *text* by replies to their text posts.  Otherwise to me it isn't really blocking at all if I can still see their quoted text.

but for saving time--just ignore the thread.

Truly the obvious, and the first reaction of course yes.  In a world where every thread title is what the discussion is, sure.  One comes to mind, obviously not about someone needing help with a broken SL something or other.  But again, titles generally do match the *start* of the conversation, but once a thread diverts into an off topic wrestling match there is no way to tell until *bam* you've already read it...

look at the list of threads in a section... and then just mark that whole section as being read, without reading anything.

Admittedly I do this a lot.  But you know I miss more good info this way, than if blocking a single entire thread were possible.

If it isn't possible to block individual threads, then it just isn't oh well.  No one will perish, just asking if it was.  If available it would sure come in handy at times.
