And yes, I can see that now, thanks for sharing.  Rereading my initial response included a mesh disclaimer.  It appears I have stepped on your toes, when my initial response to OP was only trying to help them when there was no answer posted yet.  You called out my response for being inaccurate, and I responded that it wasn't inaccurate.  I couldn't have foreseen that might offend, and it wasn't my intent on a holiday weekend. Wishing you joy.

If your old system avatar smiled, the teeth showed whether there were teeth on the skin or not.

Most FP skin templates do come with teeth and tongue on them, thankfully.  But a few do not, including very pricey ones.  This FP skin currently sells for L$1000.  On an SL head it shows no teeth or tongue when the SL head smiles.  Not many do the system smile thing anymore though, I just happen to like one I altered back in the day enough to keep wearing it.

Teeth have nothing whatsoever to do with skin.  You have to add the jaw for the teeth to show.

Not my experience. I have purchased FP skin texture files that have teeth, and some that have not had them. When one wears the skin file the teeth do not show on a SL head - mouth is empty.  Skin textures can fail to include the teeth and tongue, and it looks horrendous.  How a BOM skin impacts a Genus head would not be my thing.  But a BOM skin most-certainly can make a toothless mouth if the skin file was made that way.

  4. I cannot imagine someone isn't listening to (or being paid to listen to) a chime if catastrophe strikes 24/7.

That said, generally speaking businesses get to define "catastrophe" on their own/bottom line.  We customers should know that of course.  Future reinvestment is the sole power of the customer, and the market will correct itself.  Thankfully for companies, this power seems not to be realized or invoked by customers.

  5. Are you wearing a BOM skin with it?  If yes, and Genus is a BOM body, I know there are some older skins that don't include teeth on the skin.  I've never figured out why one would not include teeth in a skin file, but who knows.  Have you tried on other skins made for Genus specifically, and 100% of teeth are not showing?  Sorry, but off the top of my head I don't know if Genus is full, part, or no BOM...

TP shortages here in the US. Coincidence?

I've been lucky on teleporting, cutting out only twice in 10 years and both in the very distant past.  I have a consistent login issue though.  Given the number of unique users, it has to be a nightmare number of unique pc and network situations, where any one or several (or no) breaks could be triggered.

Yes, the intention of Complexity was to put a score on people so it would be easy for you to determine (and optionally not display) avatars that are causing framerate issues in your viewer.

But because of how that score is calculated, it's easy to create bodies and clothing so that it has much lower complexity that intended. Everybody does it. What's worse is that even if you're just ignorant or lazy and aren't trying to do it, you'll probably do it by coincidence. I have a huge spreadsheet of different brands and products (I can link it later) that showcases how jarringly inaccurate Complexity is.

It's an entirely useless number until someone changes it. Black Dragon actually has its own complexity formula and it's much more useful.

Interesting, ty!  So I initially read that as that

    some users accidentally,

or incidentally somewhat reverse engineer the complexity formula numbers to,

produce clothing/body items etc. one sells that then show a lower number in Complexity superficially (without really reducing the actual "complexity" of those items).

With all the "changes" in progress it certainly seems a good investment of time to discuss developing that formula.  Just takin up space on my monitors otherwise.

And on the BOM or applier thing, I was smirking at first but very quickly learned I had never had it so good. So now a huge BOM fan.

What does disappoint me about BOM items (not BOM, but BOM items), is that, specific to bodies, we are still in the period where a single seller may have free bodies being in a different BOM category than their demo and/or full-price bodies are.  And also that "BOM" body is used in advertising to describe both full-BOM and partial-BOM bodies. Full- and partial-BOM bodies are substantially different where one flat-out yes uses alpha files no-biggie, and the other does not.  It isn't bad advertising per se, but is just vague enough to be accurate but irksome to users after attempting to set it up.  I've worked with a multitude of users across several great bodies and heads, both new and longtime avis, where just to find out exactly which BOM category "this" body they are wearing is (FULL-PARTIAL-NO BOM) has been neither quick nor easy.  Sellers have been wonderful at responding, but by the time someone like me tries to help users they are generally already days into frustration and ready to bolt or totally over it, etc...

I don't run the world; I wouldn't apply for that job EV-rrr.  But in terms of bodies it seems it would help a good deal if all could settle on three exact terms/definitions that everyone agrees on to describe and define (full, or partial, or no) BOM bodies, and agree to use that term clearly in body advertising.  I mean, clearly, I suppose would help if it were in a body name or ad-picture, and not requiring locating, and reading, a lengthy notecard(s) in a folder.  I cannot imagine there would be any sales "lost" in doing so, and I suspect there might even be a few extra sales made off of lean-and-mean set-ups of free and demo bodies.

Happy, safe holidays to all those celebrating this week!

It's too bad that having low complexity doesn't actually mean anything.

50K complexity can easily be much worse than 180K.

This is soooo not my expertise. Long ago I read up on this, but it seems like lifetimes.  I took the position SL gave users the option to view this number with some intention it would help users or the system have a better experience.  I mean, time was put into adding viewing this number in etc.

So today, given what is now known, how can a mindful user, seeing this number over their own head, use this number to edit their avi-situation in order to improve their/neighbors experience?  This suggests that the number infers absolutely nothing, which if so, I won't blow one more cycle considering it ever again :)  .

That avatar complexities are way higher than need be. And it's in part the reason why people keep yelling "lag".

See now this confuses me a bit.

Looking around me at a very busy skin shop and most including myself are in the lower 40k zone. Very very few have been much over 70k.  Very happy I don't see any 300k+ like in the olden days.  In worn items I'm comfy wearing a mesh Physique yes-bom all-in-one body-hands-feet + SL head, new mesh Slink clothes, shoes, and animated hair which jacked me up to low 40s. Take my hair off and I'm upper 30s complexity.

So today is it seen by those in-the-know about complexity that an avi showing in the 30-40k zone still is "way higher" than could/should be produced and worn?

  10. A search of the forums for "Firestorm viewer" usually finds similar reports, if they exist.

Check this discussion out, and if this describes what you are experiencing there are some fixes/workaround discussed. Early on, viewers made it to a solid black background, then eventually did exactly what you mention.  Start at the beginning, and work forward from there to the Jira if it sounds similar.

    Wishing you well!

There are exceptions, such as HUDs that animate parts of the avatar.

    True, this.

13 hours ago, Wulfie Reanimator said:

need more resizable HUDs. Being able to hide it is not the main problem.

Agreeing absolutely! I am happiest when I can resize huds down tiny when not using.  Some I leave on for quick changes, and making them larger momentarily as need arises.  Complexity and lag for me don't seem to take too big a hit with those I leave on.  The flip-it-to-offscreen-except-for-one-button thing is super for the huds left open, so long as the one-button left there is, itself, tiny.  I mean, its only open or close on that one button, so there is no need to see the detail in the picture on it for me.  But with respect to size of the button, or any hud for that matter, it seems hard to speculate on the viewer every user is using (full screen? window not-full on one monitor? stretched across all/part of 2+ monitors?).  Viewers resized seem to move huds, and on different pc's (one monitor, two monitors, stretched or not-full-screen) huds show as a different size (% of viewer geography). I have always wrinkled my nose at a huge hud, or a 2 huds that open up one right on top of the other for the same outfit.  But I surmised there were too many scenarios out there on pc's where the size was going to be different anyway. Perhaps the seller made a judgment call: Share garment set with all now with a quality hud, or not release the item until a solution is found which could take forever and a day.  The huds too large or one over another (I think of one fav designer in particular I just luvvvvv) in my experience are clothing texture huds, so ehhh I drag em, I click the texture, I may never wear the item never again, so I can deal with that.  But e.g. the AO's, when I am testing stuff I reeeeeally am happy when they are yes-mod so I can resize them.

  12. Here's the possibilities:  You ask for it back and I am convinced many of us - many many of us - would send it back to you.  But - if you mistyped a name accidentally and sent it, it is not impossible that avi/name hasn't been on SL in like years/email changed, etc. So Their not responding to your heartfelt request may be they aren't active, only get IMs from their friends list folks, etc.  You have nothing to lose by posing a sincere request.  But don't lose hope if you're willing to ask for it back.  You have nothing at all to lose by asking, and I'd say a pretty fair chance of getting it back.

  13. I keep reading thread last pages, then forgetting what the thread title I clicked in to was about.  Until the election, all roads lead to this discussion, and I sure do get that. Dear God let's take care of social problems, color it grey, show some humanity and compassion and be freakin superstar human beings already i say. People hurting and needing that now, two decades ago, 2021, are purple.

  14. I just signed in with an alt, which I haven't signed in to since roughly a week ago, to find all my main avi "Notifications" were sent to this alt also.  All the notifications now appearing in my alt pop-up were exactly what I recall were there when I logged off my main avi account last evening. Those notifications copied to this alt account were not all group notifications, also including payment confirm/notifications like rentals I paid etc. The misdirects include groups that my alt is not a member of, just looks like at a point in time they were flatly all copied to my alt also from my main account (dates correct).  My alt inventory seems unaffected. This was not the case with another alt - they did not get copied.  Something must have crossed wires up between alt and main account. Not on its face wild, but for all that we do see when things cross up, I always wonder what crossed up that we don't easily see :)

so not everything is LL's fault.

True.  I feel Noa's pain, and her angst is appropriate since this continues since April.  No communication about a break will do that to folks.  The irony here is that the fail seems to affect those who have purchased huge amounts of items at Marketplace over the years.  And yah, I'll admit it, it has occurred to me that I'm sorry now I purchased as much as I did, and it has made me hesitate to continue to purchase the same volume of stuff on MP since April.  I do not interpret @Noa Noland's post as blaming LL for anything except months of silence and its still broken. Communication, even one that says "oops, we cannot deliver that ability to mega purchasers anymore", really solves the customer service problem when genuine and conveyed in the proper way/tone.  Else folks get irky, and I don't blame the customer either.

webserver had a time out,  it happens, nothing can be 100% all the time.

Hiya, yah no that's not the case here. For those experiencing the search fail, which LL is working on, it occurs 100% of the time.  Speaking for myself, it occurs 100% of the time, only under the conditions above, easily reproduced, for months on end.  This is not a random fail, and LL advises this should work/not expected. Support ticket was closed in error in September, then reopened and remains open. Thanks.

  17. Belindacarson already answered you straight-up:  File a report.  If they do this to bully their neighbors -- worthy of repeating *if* they do this to bully their neighbors into paying gross amounts of money to shut down their ugly-visuals, then SL I am convinced will shut them down because yah that's literally against SL rules.  So file your report.  Proving it?  Gonna be at the sake of the mood of SL because if the only evidence you have is "high price set for parcel sale" and "puts up ugly stuff all over", then I suspect that's almost no evidence at all.  Travel around at available parcels for sale anywhere and move your Draw Distance out. That ugly-horizon clutter thing is all over!  And alone or with a high price set on a parcel is just not enough to say there is extortion going on!

And In my experience it is never good to insist ones own group have MORE rules resulting in LESS lawful use of their properties.  Find a way to understand and accept, make room for those who think differently than you, and if necessary to get you through it, hope they move soon every single day you login.

I think it is quite frankly a wiser use of your time and RL body energy (especially during an ongoing Pandemic) to right-click- Derender + Blacklist, only once for each of what looks like only single-object signs, than it is for your RL body to boil-up and harbor resentment while at SL about a "virtual" thing you can poof in almost an instant and be done with it.  If those signs are not scripted, then your permanent Derender will do what you infer here will make you completely happy, i.e. you wont have to view their "horizon candy" ever again and will eventually forget it was ever there.  But if you're really angry about something different than visual-clutter, then that suggests a RL thing and I'm not sure SL is the best venue to work through it.
