  1. I suggest doing a clean reinstall instead of trying to download on top of whatever is already on your computer. The instructions here >>> http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_clean_reinstall were written for Firestorm users, but the procedure is the same for any SL viewer. Basically, deleteing the viewer's EXE file, or simply overwriting it leaves your user settings and other files intact. Removing them completely means starting with a fresh slate. As you reinstall, be sure once again that you have made exceptions in your firewall and antivirus proigrams for your viewer's exe file and for SLVoice.exe. Norton's utilities are particularly unfriendly to SL.
  2. I'm shooting in the dark here. Your laptop is probably marginally OK for SL, although I do worry about the integrated chipset. Depending on exactly which chip it is, that has been a problem for many SL residents. An actual video card is much preferable. Be sure that your drivers are up to date, because that can be a problem regardless of which video card or chip you have. Please go to Intel's site and select the appropriate download.Being able to play online games is no guarantee that you can run SL on your machine. SL's graphics are based on OpenGL, not DirectX, and its virtual environment is updated continuously rather than being static like most games. That put a lot more stress on your graphics system. Check your router too. Try bypassing it temporarily by plugging your computer's Internet cable directly into the modem to see if that improves things. If so, then you need to at least reboot the router and possibly think about updating its firmware.
  3. And did you also forget to upgrade Phoenix to 1.6.1.1691, like the OP?
  4. Make the track as a simple cylindrical sculpty or mesh object (or a less inspired but even simpler hollow, stretched cylindrical prim), apply a tread texture to it, and animate it with llSetTextureAnim. Since the treads don't actually move the vehicle, you just have to do a convincing job of texturing and animating them.

  7. Welcome to Second Life! Check the Library >> Clothing folder in your inventory. You'll find a large selection of outifts, some of which include non-modesty skins. You can also find skins throughout SL, ranging in price from L$0 to several thousand L$, almost none of which have underwear painted on them.
  8. We can't do a thing to return your L$ or redeliver your purchases. We're all SL residents like you, not Lindens. To get a record of the individual items in your order, open Marketplace and click the My Marketplace menu at the top of the page. Select My Account >> Order History from the pulldown menu. If you do not receive items within about 24 hours, you should cut and paste the information about a missing item from that Order History and send it in a IM or notecard to the merchant, along with a polite message (NO SHOUTING)requesting redelivery. Most merchants are very kind and willing to redeliver. This happens all the time and they are aware of it. Do be patient, though. Not everyone logs in to SL every day or checks their e-mail. If you still haven't heard in another day or two, follow it up with a second polite note (STILL NO SHOUTING) and finally, if you STILL haven't heard, file a support ticket at https://support.secondlife.com/create-case/ , selecting Marketplace from the pulldown menu.

  10. That depends on the RP sim. How big is the weapon? :matte-motes-nerdy:
  11. Yes, it would be great to be able to attach things out of a HUD, but that's not the way SL (or LSL) works. You have to rez them, then attach them, and (when you're done) detach them. That means that you get an extra copy in your OWN inventory every time, because there's no way to detach the object back into the HUD. A couple of the new tools that LL has developed for use in Linden Realms will be able to solve part of that problem, so that copies don't pile up in your inventory, but you'll still have to rez and then attach.
  12. No. You can configure some joysticks for use as control devices, but you'll have to do a lot of experimentation >>> http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Flycam . Basically, SL is not a game so it's not set up for it.
  13. The only "almost foolproof " way to keep a skateboard on a rail, a toboggan in a track, or a kid on a waterslide is to raise the sides. Make an invisible tunnel to keep from falling off. Balancing is virtually impossible (or is it "virtual balancing is impossible"?).

  17. Why does that keep you from editing the prims? The only thing that matters is the permissions set on them. If you check the Edit Linked box, then you should be able to edit any individual prim in a linkset, if you have mod perms, regardless of what those fields say. If you do not have mod perms, then no, you can't unlink or edit the object or its individual prims.
  18. CTRL + P when you are either in world or on your login screen.
  19. That's a communication problem between your computer and SL's servers. Information about your appearance has to be "baked" onto your avatar on your own computer, saved there, and then uploaded to SL before it's fully visible there. If the necessary information is messed up in transmission, you may end up with a borked file on your computer, or SL's servers may end up with a borked image. Either way, your av's appearance defaults to a fluffy cloud. If you are seeing it as a solid oval instead of a cloud, it's because you have also turned off particles (Turn them back on with CTRL+Shift+Alt+=). What works to repair the damage for one person won't necessarily work for the next person, and it may not be the same thing that works for you tomorrow. See the full list of possibilitites here >>> http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/doku.php?id=fs_bake_fail . Start with the simple things at the top of the list and work down until you find what works for you today. You may find that the bake fail problem comes back repeatedly, even after you fix it with one of the suggestions on that wiki page. If so, you have a chronically weak Internet connection. There are many steps to take for repairing it. Perhaps the simplest ones -- ones that work best for most people -- are: (1) Don't Use WIRELESS. Wireless connections are inherently less stable than direct cable connections and are more vulnerable to interference. Then, (2) Reboot your router. Unplug it from the power for a few minutes to let it clear its RAM. The plug it back in and let it get a fresh hold on an IP address.
  20. 4.0.1 is not Phoenix. It is Firestorm. Anyway, you will usually get that message if SL's servers really are having a problem with your files. You might have better luck if you simply move to a different sim and try again. However, I suspect that there's actually something wrong with the files themselves. That's the problem on those rare occasions when I get that error. You can only upload images in TGA, PNG, JPG, or BMP format. Any others will hang up and refuse to upload. The software you are using to process images on your computer may also have introduced some funky information too. Finally, you might try rebooting your router, on the off chance that it is somehow misbehaving and needs a swift kick.

  23. Marketplace was off-line for maintenance this morning. I suspect that odd behavior is either the cause or the result of that maintenance. If it's still going on, I suggest that you file a support ticket and possibly a JIRA report immediately.
  24. You can't. That's not an option. However, you can use the Revenue Distributions option at the bottom of the EDIT page for any item in your store to designate how to divide the proceeds from a sale among two or more people. So, while you can't pay an official group, you can make a de facto group and do the same thing.
  25. If you are running the current SL viewer on the same computer you were using two years ago, it may simply be too old and underpowered to handle it. You didn't tell us anything about the machine, though, so there's no way we can tell whether that's the problem. You also didn't give us much else to go on. "It crashes" is not much of a diagnosis. Exactly when does it crash? Does it really crash at all or does it disconnect (any error messages?)? Click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and select EDIT to add important information. Please do NOT start a new thread.
