  1. That's because llGetSubString((string)llGetOwner(),-16,-1) is not an integer. When you try to evaluate it as one, with its includied hyphens, the answer you get is zero. Hence channel 0. Don't use the entire UUID. Not only that, you should use a negative integer for communicating between objects, so try (integer) ("0xF" + llGetSubString(llGetOwner(),0,6)) as I suggested eaarrlier. Even working with a seven character substring of a UUID, you'll have plenty of "random" channels to play with. The probablity of crosstalk is pretty minimal.
  2. You probably don't need to have rain above your building anyway, so just put a couple of emitters outside the doors so people get wet as they exit. They don't have to create rain over a large area, after all.
  3. I have absolutely no idea. You didn't give us anything to go on. What happens when you try? Exactly what error message do you get? When do you get it? How far through the login process? What computer are you using? Tell us about it.... How are you connected to the Internet? Have you ever been ablke to log in before? There's so much you might be able to tell us. If you just say "my firestorm/ phornix viewer wont let me login," though, we can't begin to guess. Click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and select EDIT to add valuable information. Please do NOT start a new thread.
  4. Yeah, there are a couple of the original mainland sims where they allow +/- 40 m, but the general rule is +/-4
  5. Most sims in the Mainland cannot be raised or lowered by more than 4m. A few (Bay City Regions, Blumfield, Boardman, Brown, De Haro, Nautilus City Regions, Nova Albion Regions, Shermerville Regions, and West Haven) cannot be terraformed at all. My guess is that if your parcel looked like it was above sea level when the previous owner lived there, he had built a platform of some kind. If you can't raise the land enough to get it out of the water, you'll have to do the same thing.
  6. Begging is a serious no-no in Second Life. You will find yourself shunned and quite possibly ejected from groups and in-world locations for begging. Don't do it. You don't need money in Second Life. It's nice to be able to buy things, but there are thousands and thousands of things available for free, and you have the same tools that all other SL residents do for making your own things. Not only that, but you can earn money in world --- not a lot, but certainly enough to take care of simple desires -- by making items for sale, performing, entering contests or playing some games. See >>> https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Guide_to_Jobs_in_Second_Life .
  7. Nope. Flexi only applies to a limited number of primitive forms (cubes, cylinders, and derived forms like cones). You can't make other prims flexi, nor can you make sculpties or mesh objects flexi. See >>> http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Video_Tutorial/Make_flexible_objects
  8. That's fine. I don't export profits either, so it's a non-question for me as well. Everything I earn goes to rent or donations. I'm just saying that if you do sell stuff in world, you won't be able to convert your L$ to USD and get it out unless you put payment information on file. Since it's a painless step, why not just do it and not worry?
  9. You'll have no way to export the profits from Second Life without payment information on file.
  10. A clean install is always a good idea in any case. BTW, if you plan on having more than one viewer instaled on your system, it's generally wise to install the one you plan to use most often last.
  11. Firestorm is already the most stable viewer in use in SL today, so it sounds as if the problem is in your computer, your Internet connection, or your installation. The symptoms you describe aren't normal for Firestorm or V3. Assuming that your graphics card can handle SL well enough, check to be sure that its drivers are up to date. Then reboot your router to clear its RAM and do a full test of your Internet connection. See http://blog.nalates.net/2011/10/26/troubleshoot-your-sl-connection/
  12. Here's what Linden Lab has to say..... "General regions are areas where you should feel free to say and do things that you would be comfortable saying and doing in front of your grandmother or a grade school class. Institutions such as universities, conference organizers, and real world businesses may wish to designate their regions as General. Likewise their users (and others) may wish to employ Second Life's General search setting to focus and filter search results appropriately." If you feel that the club is allowing activity that does not conform to the G standard, file a well-documented Abuse Report and let LL sort it out.
  13. The best guess is that you didn't provide some required piece of information. Check all fields in your Edit form.
  14. You're doing the right things, so now wait. It says right in the Knowledge Base, "We'll review your request and get back to you within five business days." And yes, in order to sell L$, you have to have bought at least a few L$ at some earlier time. Your L$600 is plenty.
  15. Locks are for show in SL. There's no way that a lock will keep anyone out of any place. All you have to do to get past a lock is sit on something on the opposite side, or simply teleport in. Now, if you have a security system in place, that system can eject an unwanted visitor, but there's still no way to keep a camera out. So long as the insides of your home are within camera range (generally in the same sim, but not always), anyone can cam there. You'll have to move to a private island where you are the only resident if you want true privacy That doesn't mean that you have to tolerate idiots like your unwanted visitor, however. That's what Abuse Reports are for. Stay calm long anough to get the intruder's name, take a quick photo, save any typed chat, and submit the report. Be as factual as you can -- resist exaggeration or speculation -- and don't give the person the satisfaction of knowing that you are rattled. People like that seem to live for the shock value of their intrusions. If you come close to ignoring them, they are less likely to return.
  16. That's odd. It sounds like you need a new alpha mask. Contact the merchant that you got that one from and ask for a replacement.
  17. Read the accepted message at the top of this thread. If that's not what you meant, you can always open a new account and have a second avatar (an alt).
  18. It's not quite clear from your note..... Are you having trouble seeing the buildings, or are the buiildings having trouble rezzing? Can other people see them? Click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and select EDIT to add information. Please do NOT start a new thread.
  19. Don't you hate it when you're suddenly blocked from getting at your own stuff? Linden Lab has a way around it, though. You just have to prove who you are..... If you know your username but have forgotten your password, go to the password recovery page. Enter your username and click Send Instructions to have instructions on how to create a new password sent to the email address connected to the account . You'll need to answer the security question you chose when creating your Second Life account. Be sure to check your junk mail/spam folder. If you can't recall the answer to your security question [or your e-mail is no longer the same] , just contact Customer Support, preferably by opening a support case. You'll be asked to verify your identity and, working together, we can reset your security question.
  20. It shows on your web profile >>> https://my.secondlife.com/Misashi.Kohnke But, interestingly enough, not on your inworld profile, and DATA_PAYINFO shows the same. No Payment Info On File. Give the Billing Office a call. If you have a non-technical issue related to billing concerns, you can call the Linden Lab billing team at the following toll-free numbers: US/Canada: 800-294-1067 France: 0805-101-490 Germany: 0800-664-5510 Japan: 0066-33-132-830 Portugal: 800-814-450 Spain: 800-300-560 UK: 0800-048-4646 Brazil: 0800-762-1132 Long distance ( not free, but you can use Skype to save some cost ) : 703-286-6277 **Note: Support is offered only in English
  21. The OP has received the answer several times and has marked it accepted, but keeps asking it again. She has a bad Internet connection. There is nothing we can do except advise her to fix it.
  22. Try setting Physics shape to "None" in the Features tab of your Edit tool before you link the object instead of waiting to set it by script after it's linked.
  23. In this Answers area, click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and select EDIT to respond or to add more information to your post. Doing that does not alert people who have repliued to your original question, but it does make your response visible to anyone who opens the thread. As an alternative, you can click the Permalink on any particular reply to leave a specific message for that person. Anyone who has already subscribed to your thread will be notified that you left a message. Unfortunately, anyone new who opens the thread will be unaware that you have added information there unless she thinks to open the Permalink and look. It's a dumb, clumsy system, but it's what we have. Of course, you can also leave anyone a personal message here by opening their profile (click on the person's name) and selectiong "Leave a Message." The person will receive your message but, naturally, nobody else will see it. The only thing you should NOT do is open a completely new thread. Nobody will have any idea what you are responding to, so we'll either ignore the post or, more likely, be very confused or annoyed by it.
  24. And if it's not today's rolling restarts, ... At times, when attempting to log in, you will get a message like “Unable to connect to simulator”. Unfortunately, this message can be the result of several different things. This page covers some of the more common - and more rare - cases when this might occur. Your Internet Connection is Down Check whether you are able to connect to the 'net using a web browser; try to use it to visit a known website. If that fails, then the first thing to try is to unplug your modem/router for at least a full minute, then once plugged back in, allow then to go through startup, after which reboot your computer. If after this you are still unable to connect to the Internet with a web browser, you will probably need to contact your ISP to have your connection checked. Your Router and/or Modem has Problems Repeat the same things as above. Your Firewall is Preventing the Connection Try disabling your firewall software completely and then try to log in again. If you are successful, then you need to allow the viewer access through the firewall. Some tips on how to do that are here. Buildup of Open Notifications It is possible for a buildup of too many notifications to cause Firestorm to disconnect during or shortly after login. If you experience such disconnections repeatedly on Firestorm, then follow the instructions under “Firestorm Logs Out During Login” here. Domain Name Server (DNS) Issues Users of Firestorm may get “Unable to connect to simulator”, or a message specifically saying that there are issues with the DNS. In that case refer to this page for how to proceed. Region is Down It is possible that the region you are trying to log into is down. So try again but select a different region name at the log in screen. Some regions you can try: Hippo Hollow, Aich, Hatton, Pooley. Group Tag Preventing Login There are cases when your active group tag will prevent log in - most usually when the tag contains unicode characters (though there have been isolated cases where even standard Latin characters have prevented log in as well). If this happens, you can attempt to log in using a text based viewer such as Radegast or MetaBolt, and change your active group in that viewer (preferably to None), log out and then log in with your usual viewer. Should that not be an option, you will need to find a way to get word in-world, to the group owner, and have them either edit the group title tag or, should that not be an option, eject you from the group. If that too is not a viable option, then the only other recourse is to file a support ticket with LL and have them change your active group. This is a server issue, and is reported in this LL JIRA.
