  1. Hi welcome, You're very savvy for being new. Already in the forums. Impressive. From your viewer if you go to the top of the screen and click world and map, type in Bellihub there's a lot of newer educational information there, as well as, the premium home demos (very fun to play with the different home controls). All around that area is Bellisseria lots of peaceful places to explore. Here's the destination guide link; lots of places to explore Destination Guide (secondlife.com)
  2. I hope you're feeling better. Neat question. I'm not too sure about how performance factors into number of assigned materials per object. Anytime I build anything I will always try to use all the material allowances in the most logical way because it makes objects in world more modifiable. The more modifiable objects are in world the more useful they are, to me at least. There has been desire from community to have the maximum number of materials increased per object without object breaking.
  3. Maybe @Strawberry Linden can get us some sneak peaks with Lab Gab, nothing too formal. Will there be a hud to control the alpha parts? What will it look like. We need some behind the scenes spoilers pleeease. Because the last time I remember seeing anything about the NUX avatar was meet the moles 2022 at around 14:00. Will the clothing and accessories be modifiable?
  4. Recently saw documentary about exploding rice to make rice cakes. The process is super secret proprietary. Shows process around 18:00
  5. Several users in several topics have expressed desire for more professional names added to the last name list below. Professional clients would appreciate more professional names. Baker, Builder, Mesher, Scripter, Animator, Reanimator, Texture, Sculptor, Coder, Data, Nano, Writer, Reader, Glasses, Monocle, Pleasent, Triumph, Epic, Hero.
  6. Users in SL like collecting things. I love the idea. Seems logical when purchasing multiple names offered over the years to be able to keep them, not lose them; and toggle them. Wearing a special last name does not currently have any advantages yet. If they had advantages, there would be more reason to collect them. Maybe a last name will have content associated with it that is specific to them? Maybe they will unlock access to regions, events, (insert imagination here).
  7. gee i wish I could earn some lindens but im only 12. Gosh I wonder how I can get into horizons game. Hmm If I make an alt I can pretend to be 18! Offering an adult area from a G area is unacceptable.
  8. I remember something Philip Rosedale said during an interview regarding regrets he had, one of them went something like this. In the beginning workers were allowed to assign themselves work, and he voice some regret he had for allowing that. Did he mean he regretted what the workers did with that power? and if so is this problem so large that correcting it would be impossible for leadership because they are compromised accomplices?
  9. The more I think about it, the more disturbing it becomes. LL pays users to play their games. Example. Being on social island. Gee I wish I had a few lindens so I could buy something. You can earn lindens by playing the horizons game. Children need money, adults do not. It's clearly a way to traffic children to the adult areas.
  10. I wish I could help more, that's all I have.
  11. Here's the situation. Child goes to social island, child takes portal to portal park, child see games via more portals (build by official lindens and moles) those games are pretty much the only ones in this world. From there they are teleported to the center of about few hundred ADULT regions for what reason? so adults can watch them play? or so when the children open the map they will be like oh this is an adult world. Look at all the explicit content. Maybe I can get a job? I do need lindens. and then we start to get into recruiting and grooming by officials in charge of this world. If your eye is twitching again, totally normal.
  12. the quest starts in a G area aka social island.
  13. While this is happening. I would also like to take this moment to voice concern that the horizons game that children play, you know from social island via portal park. The one where you must save the princess, teleports users to the center horizons which is an adult hot spot. Why build a childs game in the middle of an adult area? Wonder who thought that was a good idea?
  14. Reviewing the SL TOS regarding their current maturity rating model they are not clear, they are all over the place. The TOS references the knowledge base for what the maturity rating is. Users are currently agreeing to a TOS that does not include all the information. This should be in the TOS. It seems like critical information. Maturity ratings overview Important: The Second Life maturity ratings are: General ("PG" in previous Viewers) Moderate ("Mature" in previous Viewers) Adult What are maturity ratings? Maturity ratings designate the type of content and behavior allowed in a region and affect search results. There are three maturity ratings in Second Life: General, Moderate, and Adult. General content is accessible by all Resident accounts, including those owned by individuals who are under 18 years of age. Moderate content is accessible by all Resident accounts over the age of 18 by default. To access Adult search results and regions, you must choose to activate Adult content in your Preferences and be at least 18 years old. For more information on how to access adult content, see Accessing Adult land and content. Note: Regardless of maturity rating, all content in Second Life must abide by our content guidelines. For the official content guidelines, including examples of prohibited content, please see Content Guidelines. General A region designated General is not allowed to advertise or make available content or activity that is sexually explicit, violent, or depicts nudity. Sexually-oriented objects such as "sex beds" or poseballs may not be located or sold in General regions. General regions are areas where you should feel free to say and do things that you would be comfortable saying and doing in front of your grandmother or a grade school class. Institutions such as universities, conference organizers, and real world businesses may wish to designate their regions as General. Likewise their users (and others) may wish to employ Second Life's General search setting to focus and filter search results appropriately. Some landowners and Residents desire a Second Life experience distinct from the activity that occurs in Moderate and Adult regions. Region owners who wish to host this sort of Second Life experience can (but need not) designate their regions as General. If you are a region owner and you feel there is some ambiguity as to whether your content and activities are allowed in General regions, it's probably best to designate your region as Moderate. Tip: Bookmark Community Standards and Second Life Terms and Conditions so you have the overall rules handy! Moderate Second Life's Moderate designation accommodates most of the non-adult activities common in Second Life. Dance clubs, bars, stores and malls, galleries, music venues, beaches, parks, and other spaces for socializing, creating, and learning all support a Moderate designation so long as they do not host publicly promoted adult activities or content and do not use adult search tags. Groups, events and classifieds that relate to this broad range of activities and themes generally should also be designated as Moderate. Residents in these spaces should therefore expect to see a variety of themes and content. Stores that sell a range of content that includes some "sexy" clothing or objects can generally reside in Moderate rather than Adult regions. Dance clubs that feature "burlesque" acts can also generally reside in Moderate regions as long as they don't promote sexual conduct, for instance through pose balls (whether in "backrooms" or more visible spaces). However if any of these businesses uses adult-oriented search tags, the region may be categorized as Adult and blocked from appearing in non-Adult search. Adult The Adult designation applies to Second Life regions that host, conduct, or display content that is sexually explicit, intensely violent, or depicts illicit drug use. A region must be designated Adult if it hosts, advertises, or publicly promotes: Representations of intensely violent acts, for example depicting death, torture, dismemberment or other severe bodily harm, whether or not photo-realistic (meaning that images either are or cannot be distinguished from a photograph). Photo-realistic nudity. Expressly sexually themed content, spaces or activities, whether or not photo-realistic. We broadly define what is "sexually themed" to include any sexually oriented activities and conduct. Groups, event listings and classified ads that reference these themes or content must also be designated Adult. Linden Lab will enforce these rules but cannot monitor all ephemeral content and conduct within Second Life. Therefore: Regions, groups, and event or classified ad listings that employ search tags plainly suggestive of adult behavior or content require the Adult designation, and will be viewable only by Residents that have opted-in and are at least 18 years old. Linden Lab will conduct proactive monitoring and rely on abuse reports that identify adult content or conduct that is promoted or advertised publicly. Where adult content or conduct on a region is publicly advertised or promoted, that region must be designated as Adult (or such content must be removed). We will re-designate such regions if adult content is not removed. Linden Lab may take into account whether apparent or reported adult content or conduct in a particular region serves only an extremely limited or passive function, or an important educational or cultural function, and therefore would be appropriate for all Second Life audiences. As with all reported activity in violation of our policies, we will actively review all reports of adult conduct and provide Residents with a channel for rebuttal. Parcels that host adult activities or contain adult content must be on: The adult mainland continent, Zindra. A private region that has been designated by its owner as Adult. Region owners are responsible for designating a region's maturity level. Occupants of regions will be expected to locate in a region suitable to each occupant's content and conduct. For more information on what qualifies as adult content, see Adult Content FAQ.
  15. Or the "voluntary" game rating model ESRB: The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) is a self-regulatory organization that assigns age and content ratings to consumer video games in the United States and Canada. The ESRB was established in 1994 by the Entertainment Software Association.
  16. Lastly, I urge LL/SL to work with the FCC to come up with a maturity rating model that all virtual worlds would be required to comply with. Something clear like the television rating, before teleportation to a place the screen will show the rating and ask if user would like to proceed. Linden Lab / Second Life stepping up and introducing something like this to congress would be an extremely powerful asset. They have the power to change the world, not just their platform, every platform. This problem could be eliminated completely. Ratings[edit] The direct description of each rating from the TV Parental Guidelines Monitoring Board is listed above the extended ratings description in italics. TV-Y[edit] This program is designed to be appropriate for all children.[11] Designed to be appropriate for children of all ages. The thematic elements portrayed in programs with this rating are specifically designed for a very young audience. TV-Y7[edit] This program is designed for children age 7 and above.[11] Designed for children age 7 and older. The FCC states that it "may be more appropriate for children who have acquired the developmental skills needed to distinguish between make-believe and reality".[11] The thematic elements portrayed in programs with this rating contain mild fantasy and comedic violence. Programs where fantasy violence may be more intense or more combative.[11] Programs given the "FV" content descriptor exhibit more 'fantasy violence'[11] and are generally more intense or combative than other programs rated TV-Y7. TV-G[edit] Most parents will find this program suitable for all ages.[11] Programs are generally suitable for all audiences, though they may not necessarily contain content of interest to children. The FCC states that "this rating does not signify a program designed specifically for children, [and] most parents may let younger children watch this program unattended".[12] The thematic elements portrayed in programs with this rating contain little or no violence, mild language, and little or no sexual dialogue or situations.[12] TV-PG[edit] This program contains material that parents may find unsuitable for younger children.[11] Programs may contain some material that parents or guardians may find inappropriate for younger children. Programs assigned a TV-PG rating may include infrequent coarse language, some sexual content, some suggestive dialogue, or moderate violence. TV-14[edit] This program contains material that most parents would find unsuitable for children under 14 years of age.[11] Programs contain material that parents or adult guardians may find unsuitable for children under the age of 14. The FCC warns that "parents are cautioned to exercise some care in monitoring this program and are cautioned against letting children under the age of 14 watch unattended".[11] Programs with this rating contain intensely suggestive dialogue, strong coarse language, intense sexual situations or intense violence.[12] TV-MA[edit] This program is specifically designed to be viewed by adults and therefore may be unsuitable for children under 17.[11] Contains content that may be unsuitable for children. This rating was originally TV-M prior to the announced revisions to the rating system in August 1997 but was changed due to a trademark dispute and in order to remove confusion with the Entertainment Software Rating Board's (ESRB) "M for Mature" rating for video games.[13] This rating is rarely used by broadcast networks or local television stations due to FCC restrictions on program content, although it is commonly applied to television programs featured on certain cable channels (basic and premium networks) and streaming networks for both mainstream and softcore programs. Programs with this rating may include crude indecent language, explicit sexual activity and graphic violence.[12]
  17. I would change the "we may report any and all such incidents -- and any and all of your corresponding personal information -- to any authorities we deem appropriate, whether or not it in and of itself violates the law of your (or any) jurisdiction." To "we WILL report any and all such incidents -- and any and all of your corresponding personal information -- to any authorities we deem appropriate, whether or not it in and of itself violates the law of your (or any) jurisdiction."
  18. I personally am mostly concerned about eliminating CP / explicit "role play" / adult situations that involve humanoid child avatars. We could go on and on what if a cube avatar claims to be a child on a nude beach with nude prim cube people, would that be acceptable? I would say no, because child and nude on a mostly an adult platform does not seem to go together. Governance could build something where if the word daddy or mommy is used on adult region the account would automatically be flagged for investigation. I thought "*****" was not allowed? the *** is ag# pla# that word is not allowed in the forum but is allowed in the tos? In the past the Linden Lab CEOs have always dodged questions about adult content, I could attach videos, however, I will not do that. Maybe the next one will take a bold stance on the subject and let it be known once and for all this type of content is not allowed here vs trying to change the subject. For violations I would suggest quoting the specific violation vs spamming offender with the link to the tos.
  19. That's really cool that you are hanging on to the classic avatar, I did the same for a long time. I was kind of anti mesh. In reality the classic avatars are mesh they are just not as smooth, lumpy fingers and no toes. I did away with my hands with what they call an alpha to make parts vanish. I made my hands vanish and I wore gloves to hide my lumpy fingers. It took me a good two years to go to mesh. Be sure to save your appearance so you can always go back to your avatar with your acquired outfit, don't be afraid to try body and head demos. Second Life is working on new system avatars that will be smoothers have fingers and toes, last I heard developers were working on clothing and accessories for them. I look forward to making a new system avatar when they come out.
