  1. Apologies in advance if this should be in the 'Your Avatar' forum? Happy to move it there? But anyone know why this happens, or how to avoid it happening - it's getting embarrassing? So - Whenver I sit or lie on anything (chairs, beds, beach towels, cars and boats, etc) I start out being sat totally normal - in the right position - looking normal and everthing fine. But then after about 15 - 30 secods, I suddenly 'sink' into the chair. The only way to then get back to sitting normal, is to EITHER use the adjust setting in the sitter control box (which takes forever). OR if I turn my (VISTA) AO off, I then also return to a normal sitting position. It's a real pain to have to remember to do this every single time I want to sit / lie on anything. Or is it just the way it is? Or is there a setting I can change to avoid this happening. And is it just me, or does this happen to eveyone? Example Video GIF below shows me sitting normally, and then suddenly sinking, (Which happneed about 30 seconds after sitting). I then return to normal if I turn my AO off (as I did shown right at the end of video GIF) https://gyazo.com/11777c9b2d4f70bc9dfdec172bb9e214
  2. I realize this is probaly a ridiculously noob question. But how do you know you are standing exactly center of your parcel? (and presume you mean centre of my Linden Home?). and if not in the exactly center when doing this, will anything bad happen (like crossing the beams in Ghostbusters, bad I mean?)
  3. oh - and by the way, from what you said about Bandit boats - i went and looked - tested one - and guess what - i am now also the proud owner of a powerboat (and the impact on my land is quite small too). Thanks for the 'Bandit' tip off.
  4. wow - thanks for taking time to provide those answers. Brilliant. Thanks again 🙂
  5. I will do - thanks. I do love it actually. I just set environment to sunset - stood on the 'balcony' and looked out to the setting sun over the water - and it blew my socks off. 🙂 (I needed a long cool drink in my hand to finish it off). Thanks again
  6. Ha - yes thanks. I have now. And have come to terms with the initial shock of being dunked under water, like some kind of weird Linden Christening/Baptism ritual for new home owners. Anyway....I'm now in, I've changed the 'model' of the boat, and now wondering how on earth I furnish and decorate this place with a limit of 350 Land Impact (points)? But do have some more questions, if you or anyone know the answers at all 🙂 Is there a way to see the perimeter of my house/land I can use as mine? Is there a way to change the name of my houseboat - i gave it a ridiculous name in the exciteme of choosing it? (and also can i change the silly picture.icon that shows up on the map / location info - currently of an Japanase Anime character. Wonder if this is a default, or if i can change it?) Am I allowed to have parties on my houseboat? (eg a houeboat warming) If so - is there a limit to numbers? (and if so how do i stop people crashing any paries on my houseboat?) And am I allowed to play music on my houeboat (and if so can others hear it nearby? I don't want to be the noisy neighbour!) Can I allow other people to stay or live with me? (friends I mean?) Do i have to accept that others may just enter my houseboat when i am not there - and use it - and thats just the way it is? Anyone know if I can buy and moor an actual boat at my houeboat - and if so, any ideas where I could buy one? Whenever I am in my houseboat - does that mean I am invisible to people outside of it? If anyone knows the answers - or can link me to where they exisit, that would be great.
  7. Or I might just buy one of those big massive outdoor pool inflatables - so they can bounce their way into my living room.
  8. But it's the official 'Visit your brand new Linden Home' link that Linden provided me when I acquired it. You'd think they'd make that link more accurate to make sure 'new customers' didn't get 'trapped under their houses', or 'left drowning;. Oh well, clearly they couldnt be bothered by that important aspect of the detail of their new customers exprience. If I ever invite anyone to a party at my place, I'll make sure to tell them they need to bring a swimming costume, and not to have anything they don't want to get wet in their pockets!!
  9. Thanks. So just to clarify - everyone (friends/visitors) I give my houseboats map location to, will have to fly up out of the water to visit me in my new house? Is this the same for everyone with a houseboat. The door into it though is off a jetty/beach. Still don't get why they couldnt provide a map location link to the actual entrance to the houseboat, rather than landing me in the open water behind it? That's crazy. 🙂 (also when you say congratz - are these hard to get then? It was just there when I joined and went to the house selection page - along with lots of other house types).
  10. I decided to take the plunge - and try out being a Premium member. So after upgrading, I excitedly selected my New Linden Home. But the location/map/teleport link I have been given By Linden Homes to get to it, literally drops me in the ocean/underwater? That wasn't quite the 'plunge' I was hoping for when I upgraded!! And definiteley not a very warm welcome for myself as a new homeowner (or for my friends/visitors to it!). I have raised a ticket, as the live chat was closed (even though I accessed it well within the promote opening times on the Linden support page. which provided an additional frustration, and let down as a new premium member). But while waiting for the ticket reposne, anyone know why my offical map location provided for my new Linden Home drops me in water near to my home - but not at actually at or in my home?
  11. ooohh - this sounds good. Where do you get these from. Any recommendations?
  12. Hey - I don't want to get into a petty argument with you about your misinterpretation of my original post. But in answer to your first question. "Isn't this akin to saying "Hey pretty lady, why aren't you smiling?" - the answer is of course NO, my post is NOTHING like akin to that! And specifically - me saying that 'I'd love to see more smiling avatars in SL' , is VERY different to me saying I WANT or DEMAND to see more smiling Avatars. My original post (which you've chosen to remove one line and use totally out of context) was very clearly asking the question about smiling avatars out of curiosity. And clearly I wasn't asking or trying to force anyone 'to smile against their will'. People in Second Life can choose to scowl, frown, cry, or bounce their breasts/pecs up and down all day long if they want (which i see a lot of). Totally up to them. But I don't see many AVI's smiling, and I was simply curious as to why? #EndOf
  13. Ha. But seriously - I am new, and I may think different in future. But at the moment I find the value in SL brilliant. Sure, it's easy to go 'wild in the aisles' and very quickly overspend buying loads of clothes and accessories. But individually I think everything is well priced, considering what time and effort must go in to making these things. And so I am fine with rewarding the creativity by paying. And there is always the option not to spend. Yes, it makes it slightly less enjoyable I guess. but at no point as SL made it compulsory to 'Pay to Play'. And when using/exploring/enjoying SL - I always usually at some point find myself smiling or laughing in RL at some of the things people are doing or saying.
  14. That is correct. And just to clarify - my original post was asking the question out of curiosity as to why you don't see many smiles in SL. I have no opinion on whether people should or shouldn't smile - that's entirely up to them. But I was just curious as to why seeing smiling SL residents is a rarity. I think though, a month or so on since I originally posted, the most common answer to this question is that the current animations available for smiles just make most if us look creepy if we do smile. Yes, of course there are a few exceptions. And certainly if you edit your avatar pics outside of SL you can make the smiles look decent in static shots. But within SL, it appears it's much tougher still. I just find it interesting though that every other aspect of SL seems to have improved leaps and bounds over the years. Dance animations are unbelievably realistic nowadays. Hair and eyes the same. But the simple smile? That still seems to be a no go for most of us.
  15. ahhhh yes, you are right. And yep, its poss to make stills outside of SL look good smiling, with this and other apps. But, reading back through all responses it seems it's a no-goer for Linden to get this happening without it looking like Creepyville, anytime soon. And it seems many people are happy for that to be the case, and prefer the 'serious look' going on. I have no hard and fast view yet personally. But wanted to pose the general question if there was a reason, given all the other seeming visual and animated advances made in SL I hear have been made over the years - why the simple smile hasn't been cracked. 🙂
  16. Good point. Although I'd have thought a 'smile in response' or 'on demand' gesture is not beyond the realms. It would just trigger the smile in the head or animation. I thought that was already possible. but may be mistaken. Apparently in RL. the average woman smiles 62 times per day (men less so, at around 8 times).
  17. Or make other people feel better. As Mother Theresa famously said: “I will never understand all the good that a simple smile can accomplish.”
  18. Nice find - and most of those look great. So it does I guess show that smiles can look good (not creepy) in SL (although I've not personally been able to pull off a non-creepy smile myself with my Lelutka head). OR could be that these have all had additional editing/touching up in photoshop outside of SL?
  19. A little bit bias here, cuz already a fan. BUT this is fantastic.
  20. I notice it most of all when watching youtube videos (such as group round the table discussions in SL) when there is a lot of witty banter going on amongst the AVI's , but just no expression in faces. But it will be something I get used to I guess.
  21. Thank you. That makes sense, and reassures me Is that script part of the default SL/Firestorm install? Or would it have come from a third party?
  22. I am quite new to SL, and I LOVE IT. But one thing i am starting to notice more and more, is that no one seems to smile, and almost all of the beautiful, creative and fantastic avatars, have very sullen/serious expressions. Is there a reason for that? I did try to experiment with my own head HUD (Lelutka) and did notice that if I did put a permanent smile on my face, it looked more creepy than happy. So turned it off. Wonder if this is the same for everyone else, and that it's just hard to capture that normal smiling face in the current virtual technologies used for this sort of thing? It used to be eyes didn't it with video games (YES, i know SL is not a game, but you know what i mean) and they could never get the eyes right. (or am I getting that confused with The Stepford Wives?) Anyway - would love to be able to have, and see more smiling avatars - how about you ? 😀
  23. Hello. I realise I am a bit paranoid. But can anyone advise me if this script I have found in my inventory is normal, ok and should be there. or shouldn't be there, but harmless. or is something I should be concerned about? It's in SCRIPTS folder and called access. And starts like this... // NewAge Access Script // By Asia Snowfall // Version 2 // // Access Mode: // public = anybody // group = agents with the same active group // owner = owner only string accessMode = "public"; integer asAccessCheck(key id) { string accessModeToLower = llToLower(accessMode); if (accessModeToLower == "public" || id == llGetOwner() ) return TRUE; if (accessModeToLower == "group") return llSameGroup(id); return FALSE; } default { touch_start(integer num_detected) { if (asAccessCheck( llDetectedKey(0) )) llWhisper(0, "Access Granted"); else llWhisper(0, "Access Denied"); } }
  24. Thanks. And hey, you guessed exactly what I am trying to do - take a pic of the texture on the billboard I built. And yep, I can straighten it up in photoshop after. just wondered if I could get it centred within SL by the press of a single click of something. 🙂
