  1. And Tom Waits of course, also sang Kurt Weil and Berthold Brecht.
  2. And for those who are wondering who the heck are Kurt Weil and Bertold Brecht. Well outside Europe and in the States their music is known because their music is sang by Marianne Faithfull, David Bowie, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, The Doors and Sting to name a few. This is the most known song Moritat von Mackie Messer, in English known as Mack the knife, the beginning of his Dreigrosschen Oper (Threepenny opera). I think this English version depicts the atmosphere of the relatively liberal Weimar times in Germany (Between the two world wars) most faithfull.
  3. This live clip is from 1979 and in Europe, Nina Hagen is an rock icon. She IS a bit alien but extremely talented and has a rare voice that can go from male bass to female mezzo soprano. She grew up in East Germany (before the wall was torn down). Her paternal grandfather Hermann Carl Hagen, who was Jewish, was murdered at the Sachsenhausen concentration camp on 28 May 1942, at age 56. Hedwig Elise Caroline Staadt, Nina's paternal grandmother, was also murdered at Sachsenhausen. Her mother Eva Maria Hagen was also well known as an actress and singer, and she grew up with the repertoire of Kurt Weil and Berthold Brecht. She had her greatest fame in the 1970s and 1980s. She also learnt classical singing in the theatre where her mother performed. A classical singer taught her and said, "You just have to pretend to yawn and then put power from your belly. And she did and then she could do it. She became notorious in Germany when she told a live show how a female orgasm works (because she was annoyed that it was only about male lust) - but she is at the same time hugely religious, though liberal.
  4. Great song from the masked South African country musician: Orville Peck - Let Me Drown
  5. I am reading books about New York's legendary Chelsea hotel this year-end holiday. Although it has been saved from destruction by being sold and pimped up, it is now going to become a luxury hotel that will no longer accommodate future artistic bohemians, if only because of the room prices. And legendary it was! Bob Dylan composed songs there. The poet Allen Ginsberg wrote there, but also lived and worked there: Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Leonard Cohen, Andy Warhol, William S. Burroughs, Arthur Miller and Patti Smith. And, of course, Nico, my tragic heroine of all time.
  6. Dance of the Tumblers from Kurt Weill by Willem Breuker Kollektief
  7. Siouxsie And The Banshees - Last Beat Of My Heart (1988)
  8. Siouxsie And The Banshees - Dazzle Incredible to realise that Siouxsie Sioux (Susan Janet Ballion) is now 65. Here (in 1984) she is at the top of her game. But: big news, July next year the old ice queen will return to the stage with a concert at the Latitude Festival!

  10. Salvation is created bij Bifrost Arts feat. Aimee Wilson
  11. Joy, Joy!!! from Bifrost Arts (feat. Devon Sproule) A few years ago Bifrost Arts made the - in my opinion - most moving Christmas album of all time. Sincerity without embellishment and pure beauty. Really have to shed a tear on this from time to time
  12. An old Czech version (1973) of Cinderella in Christmas spirit. And with a quite emancipated Cinderella!

  17. A foggy day in London Town from George & Ira Gershwin performed by Angelo Badalamenti (music) & David Bowie (voice).
  18. There are of course wonderful things being created in SL by builders. I would like to eulogise for that! Without them, we cannot set up our land, let's be honest. But sometimes you see things in RL that would be also wonderful in SL. Not for builders to recreate immediately, but for inspiration. Today I saw such an RL inspiration thing on the internet. Bacchanalia restaurant in London with sculptures from Damien Hirst. Picture of the restaurant feels allready SL-like to be honest. Born to be on SL! And you, fellow residents, do you have seen things in RL that could be an inspiration for SL?
