  1. Ah, but is it a choice if there's only one? ...I'll see myself out. PS uh? new people and people playing the GoH get the same screen, so that comment had me scratching my head, I must say...
  2. I was kinda hoping for that, actually. I just didn't want to ask a specific instructor at a specific class...
  3. I've been thinking about taking some classes at Builders Brewery, and I know you're supposed to tip the instructors. I have no idea how much I should tip. I don't want to come across as a cheapskate, but on the other hand I don't have unlimited amounts of money… So, would anybody be willing to give me a guide as to how much the tip should be? I have NO frame of reference for this at all! And yes, I do find it embarrassing to ask... (I suppose I could ask the instructor, but that's even more embarassing)
  4. I finished Mahogany last night, so I'm only slightly late... Looking at the picture, I'm thinking the background is mahoganier (what do you mean, that's not a word?) than the top. Oh well. My socks are actually liver, but you'll have to take my word for it.
  5. I love this place. There's a minimalism to it that reminds me of AM Radio's builds. It's not just a landcape, it's a landscape with a story (and what looks llike quite a grisly one, at that). The abandoned police car and the broken down snowplough are only the start. Once you've found the bloody axe, you won't look at the homely dinner table quite the same way... http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Noweeta/36/151/3502
  6. That makes sense. Thanks for taking the time to explain. The only way I've ever worn a skin is by double clicking on it... I'm certainly not about to start with appliers (I imagine they are on their way out now?). And as far as I can tell, BOM layers work just as well without a mesh body, so it's like being back in the old days, lol.
  7. Ah - it took me a while to understand what was meant by BOM mode, but I got it. Thank you. I still don't understand everything, but I'm getting there.
  8. Thanks. But when I wear the Lelutka head, I do need to wear one of the alphas provider, otherwise it doesn't look right, so that's pretty confusing. I thought that BOM was a layer that goes onto a mesh head/ body, the way systems layers back in the day went on the default avatar body; and that mesh heads/ bodies are mesh objects that go over the default avatar body, like mesh clothes but, well, body shaped, and that's why you need alphas, to hide what's underneath. So I've got it all wrong? Is there a handy guide somewhere, written for absolute idiots like me, that explains these thing in really really really simple terms? (I do not know what an applier skin is.)
  9. I picked up the Akeruka gift head for an alt, and when trying it on with the included alpha mask, it looks bright tomato red. Like this: It looks fine without the alpha, so I'm not complaining, but does anybody know what's going on? Is there some kind of setting I should be playing with?
  10. I was going to sit out that one...but then I found this scarf when sorting out my inventory... old sculpty thing, but I still like it.
  11. It's "Log Home". Rapsberry Crystal caught the LP with all 5 house styles and did a screenshot - so handy! It's here (hopefully the linking will work, but if it doesn't it's on page 803 on the 19 Nov. https://community.secondlife.com/forums/topic/439050-when-did-you-last-see-a-bellessarian-home-available/?do=findComment&comment=2217192
  12. @Ceka Cianci Thanks, that pointed me in the right direction. I did clear both, it didn't make a difference, but then I tinkered with the tinting of layer2 in the "taylor" section, and set it to a mid grey, and that definitely helps taking the edge of the brighness. Ah, but see, I like a minimal make up look.... Guess I'll have to look for nude effect make up 😄 Thanks for the pointer about the puffy eyelid slider, that helped too. I'm not using a mesh body... I tried changing the neck thickness of the default body, but it makes no difference. Time to buy some stylish scarves, maybe. French chic! Or maybe buy a mesh body... Nah, I'm not ready for that. Yes, the light doesn't help, but it's definitely more than the light. No, I am using the included eyes (they are lovely). Thanks to both of you @steeljane42 and @Marianne Little for the Simple Bloom recommendation - I see they have lots of choice, which is what I want. So thanks, all the suggestions helped a lot and "I" look much better now.
  13. I've never had a mesh head before, but I thought I'd try this one (can't beat the price…), and I do like it. But there's one issue that really bothers me, and it's the bright coral coloured inner eye line or whatever that's called. It's really, really ugly. Hopefully the pictures I'm attaching to explain what I mean will show up. I've tried playing with the settings, and tinkering with the shape, but nothing seems to help. How do I make it thinner and more natural looking and not as bright? If that's possible? Also, is there anything I can do about the neck seam? Also, can anybody suggest a good place to look for eyebrows? (The marketplace is not helping.) I'm assuming I need to find a skin with no brows, and then I can add the eyebrows of my choice on a separate layer, is that right? (I really don't like the original ones…)
  14. I recently changed my payment method from Paypal to a credit card, and I did not have to agree to anything (as in: "please provide us with gov approved ID otherwise you can't go further"), so it looks like giving money to LL is easy, it's the taking money away part that requires verification... LOL. Oh well, regulations are what they are, and at the end of the day, they are put in place to protect people. I hope.
  15. LOL, now that is an interesting point! Now much I can do about it, of course, but it means in theory, the UK could choose to stop slapping VAT on top of most things... but apparently the value of VAT to the government is about £120 billions/ year (I could be wrong, I only did a quick scan, so don't quote me - it's a LOT of money, at any rate). So the probability of VAT disappearing from tier (to stay within the context of SL) is probably quite...remote. And either LL will keep UK as part of Europe for their accounting purpose, or there will be a separate TOS for UK only, but from a user's POV, it doesn't make that much difference (I think). Thanks - good to know. I actually tested what happens when you try and reduce land holdings to an amount that's less than the amount necessary to hold the land, by having an account that is definitely going back to basic [account 1] setting their contribution to 0, and the system would not let me do it. So I used another account [account 2] to make up the shortfall (the way Pussycat Catnap outlined above), and then I was able to remove the contribution from [account 2]. (Just thought that info might be useful to somebody...) Ouch, yes, best to work on avoiding that...but it's good to know there IS that possibility, if it's unavoidable - thanks! 72 hours? That's actually very generous. I agree, though - best done straight away. I know I might forget too. Yeah, as far as I can tell, this works for UK accounts as well, even with the 20% VAT. I could be wrong, though, and it probably breaks down at higher numbers. I did sell some L$ and they went into my US$ Tilia account, and I can confirm that I did not have to go through a confirmation page for that (obviously, I did not try to take them out). Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but if you're renting and pay for it with L$ you bought, you also don't need to agree to the Tilia agreement? Am I misunderstanding you @Chic Aeon? (it's a long time since I bought L$) Anyway, thanks to everybody for the feedback - it's been very useful.
  16. Yeah, I've crunched the numbers, and using a premium account is about the same price as paying land use fees, in my specific circumstances, so that's probably what I'll end up doing. It's good if the info contained in this thread can be useful to anybody else - there's not much out there (that I could find easily) that deals with managing group land with respect to payment of land use fees, in a really practical way (ie in a way that similar to what Pussycat Catnap outlined above). I've assumed in my calculations that land use fees ARE subject to VAT - do you know otherwise @Alwin Alcott ?
