Keira's reaction was like if a bank advertises "If you don't want to get robbed of your money, withdraw your money you want to keep".
LL chooses the for them easy way by simply doing nothing.

How would the lab react if it were possible to link every Linden with their real name and every cent they make at the Lab by using information on their website?
Bad luck, don't work for us?

LL has an obligation to secure essential data about their customers on their websites/in world. How much money a resident makes as a merchant is one of them.

I'd actually agree 100% with you Sid, BUT using Burks example that merchant has their RL website on their profile? So of course they can be looked BUT they chose to put that information out there, well, it's their choice.

I'd be more turned off at businesses using bot clusters to generate 95% of their traffic rating than I would at random survey bots coming and going all day.

It might be nice if Scripted Agent status could be read by script so visitor alerts and/or moderation could be more "efficient".

Also, aside from the horrible practice of forever equating an IP between a RL entity and any one user, something that other systems like Voodoo and CDS use, the final nail with Red Zone was the discovery they were harvesting incorrectly inputted passwords on their website with the hidden data field "possible Secondlife password" or something similarly titled in each user's account data.

The final nail with redzone was publically outing alledged "alts" by creating a hud that allowed anyone to view them.

Voodoo collect IP address only via the prompt that a user gets to verify before they can play a sploder - user gets a blue pop up telling them that by clicking that their IP address is collected so places the choice firmly in the user's hand (IE gdpr compliant).

CDS, haven't seen that in use in years 🤔

  3. What exactly, is "public knowledge"? your RL info, which is not published by LL on these forums or inworld.  Anything else is public information (albeit anonymised stuff) so there's nothing RL wise publically disclosed?

Please feel free to correct me here, but your RL info is nice, safe, and secure (unless you have chosen to share it/disclose it within SL of course, which is your right).

Personally, I don't see any issue in another avi seeing my avi's age.

There is a difference between posting about an individual and a brand's product.

We can't even post a critical review here.

"The brand X fancy pants fit ok on my brand Y body, but the ass kept glitching and there wasn't an alpha layer included"

It would only be patently unfair if one persons opinions we're allowed to stand in isolation, this is a forum, that's not what would happen.

As an aside, If I had a bad experience with a merchant, I would like to share that experience. But you will never know which one stalked me from a meh SLM review, spent 2 hours (H O U R S) threatening me personally in IM and saying I would be banned from his store and everything I had purchased remotely bricked. I had easily spent 20K at his store by that point and was entirely unaware half the stuff was actually lifted from online mesh libraries. If only ....

Only one side of the story here 🤔

    That's nice.

It is only a major enough update away from being unusable.

Stop trying to encourage users to grab it from unofficial sources (which may or may not have altered it), stop trying to pretend it is still a viable option. use it while it still works sure but ... Move. On.

If you do not, the day when it does cease to function is going to hit quite hard.

Please remember to check your facts are accurate before posting, it usually helps.

I haven't encouraged anyone to download it from questionable sources, it is still a viable option for those who want to use it to chat only.

No, it doesn't. Not in any truly meaningful way anyway. Any location you *can* download it from is either suspect (such as third party app stores like aptoide) or simply out of date. Badly out of date in fact.

Lumiya's days were numbered the moment all development ceased and the Dev vanished. Much as I hate to say it, it is beyond time to move on/find another method for doing what you want to do, on the go.

    not entirely accurate.

if all you are wanting to use it for is chatting, it's still ideal.  graphics rendering is woefully out of date, granted.

  7. time for a helpful answer, from another lumiya user.

where were you when you got disconnected? wifi or mobile data?

if you're on a busy sim, and using mobile data you'll crash repeatedly as the bandwidth gets overloaded.

check the permissions for lumiya to make sure you haven't hit something by mistake.  ensure it ignores battery optimisation.

lumiya setting, login and connection.  make sure that "auto reconnect" and "keep wifi on" are ticked.

how often do you clear lumiya's cache? if not that often, clear it.

failing that, go into the app list on your phone /tablet and clear the app data to reset all the settings back to normal.

  8. There are pre existing rez zones already around there.  Been there years.  Directly east a small one, north near that mountain and near that city one

Blake sea is also full of Linden rez zones, don't the majority of those Sims have rezz zones in the corner?

It would not prevent them from showing up say, on another parcel, so I prefer to send them away as soon as they arrive. And they are not alone, so with a list of currently 254 known active bots of a list of 430 names total I don't care to track and manually add those pests on rather limted space of parcel ban lists in multiple places. Instead I'll continue to rely on my own little "NoBots" system in the places which don't want to have to do with your not very good looking data collection system.

Let's have a look at that innocent and fun statistic about current and upcoming attachments used. So it's allegedly totally anonymized and all public information.

First, it's not that anonym as you can not collect a list of attachments without collecting the wearers UUID first. So the data collection already begins pretty much non-anonymized and no one said that it's stored in an anonymized form. Which would be hard to tell with a straight face when there's that "birthday board" to display avatars on their rezdays which indeed points to an avatar keyed data pool.

Second, publicly available information may as such be fine to see but a massively aggregated collection of them tends to fall into a different category, especially if the whole ethics behind the collection comes down to "I think it's fun" and "Because I can do it". Where is the reason to trust any of this?

Is it really a sensible attitude to hit up "at least every region in SL once a day" as I seem to remember one of the statements to find 20 or 30 crowded spaces that are not already on Destinations? If there even are that many.

I would strongly recommend the implementation of an opt out mechanism, both for lands and avatars because hitting up random places multiple times a day that aren't even some random shopping event, meeting place or party bunk is just plain inconsiderate.

    "Nobots"? Do enlighten us?

  10. I'd suggest you try ringing the billing support numbers and ask the staff on that.  Here are the numbers from support website:

    Toll-Free (US/Canada 800.294.106

    Long-Distance: 703.286.6277

However, if you're not in the USA, I'd suggest you download Skype to your phone/tablet, then you can call their free number internationally, for free.

  11. Today, LL live chat unavailable 1030-2pm PDT so no live Lindens.

Tomorrow Live support closed for Xmas, next live agent available 6am 26/12

so 48 hours without access to support.

Support closed 1/2 January 2023 so live support unavailable nearly 96 hours/4 days from 31st December/3rd January.

Linden Labs - you have a user base worldwide, in many different timezones.

You have thousands (or more) paying customers, so why is access to support so restricted over the holiday period?

I'm sure that I'm not the only user who would like to know? other organisations provide live chat support 24/7

    Cue this post being deleted.
