  1. Hello, welcome to the forums... Feel free to add me if ya like. I do wish you the best in SL!
  2. Just curious, is there anyway to contact the admin of this forum? Thanks. PS. Sorry if this is in the wrong section.
  3. Wow, we definitely have very similar interests! Welcome to SL! I'd sure like to meet up in game and chat. I'm not that much older, I'm 24. I too like animals, I currently have Two cats. I also like chocolate and sweets he he...
  4. You really should keep this in the adult section, this is for looking for friends...
  5. Wow... Stalker much... Your personal attacks on all of my posts don't phase me lol I just enjoy the laugh. When you resort to personal attacks then you've already FAILED.
  6. My husband went longer then 4yrs... But anyway... I'm off to shop a bit. As its getting really personal here ... Instead of calmly stating an opinion it somehow instead goes directly to personal attacks ...
  7. I'm from wv we talk/write differently so go ahead and poke fun lol no worries. Anyway I'm not gonna argue I stated my opinion and I'm sticking by it. Good luck with ssds etc.
  8. A car and a PC are two different things... Cars run on gas, PCs run of very little power... Turning them off and on daily will wear them out, but if that's what you wanna do go ahead.
  9. I'm really not trying to insult anyone as we all have our opinions on things... I'm not like certain people I don't use personal attacks to prove a point.
  10. I'm not gonna argue as you think you're right and that's your opinion. Every PC savvy person knows that you do not turn a PC off daily, let alone even weekly... Yes you may save a few cents at the time but in the long run you'll pay more for killing your hard drive. Its hard to explain things to people who don't know what they're even talking about.
  11. So you're saying you turn your PC off? That's not smart. Again my husband would know more as he has worked in IT etc for a long time and has many degrees... Just search for ssd RMA and warranty failure and people who lost data... That's your choice but again I still stand by the 2-4 year longevity. Its your opinion that I'm wrong, you too have no proof in that. You can use it if you want but I won't.
  12. Its up to you if you want to try them or not but I still stand by the lifespan. Most users do run their PCs all day everyday...
  13. I actually was not referring to linux, my husband uses linux and windows, but my opinion still stands on macs, they're no good. As for viruses, I agree there are many viruses that attack windows, but if one were smart they could either avoid the viruses altogether, or buy a virus protection software. Macs may not get as many viruses as windows but then again no wonder, the hackers/etc don't want to waste time with junk, they want to hit the major businesses etc (as many business use windows). NSA is not just spying on windows, any OS, cellphones, tvs, you name it... Just because someone runs on a mac or linux don't mean they're safe from spying, you use the web? do you have a webcam? use email? use any kind of messenger - yahoo, etc? Then you're being spied on... Do you go outside? You're being spied on. Ever heard of drones? Or facial reconnection? Go to walmart or any store at all? Then they already have your face and your walking pattern and your voice in the system... Also if you drive a newer model vehicle with GPS then yea they're already tracking you everywhere you go -- So that argument is invalid.
  14. I'm not sure if he has the documentation but I know he has a Masters in IT and Computer Engineering, he still stands by waiting on SSD's, he don't trust them currently.
  15. You referring to Windows? Maybe because 99% of programs are built for Windows... Majority of softwares are written for Windows machines. Lol Macs are the most expensive and incomplete OS not windows. I mean Macs can't do hardly anything but play music and surf the web...
  16. Sounds like a program SL is still running in the background. Could you tell me more? Sometimes this could happen from a memory problem or something is hanging... Like for instance you could of had two SL tasks running in the background, your best bet to find out if this is so is to check the task manager.
  17. Oh OK thanks for replying, I'll definitely look into it further. I'd like to get a home some time, so me and my hubby can live together.
  18. Lifespan on any ssd sadly won't last no 8yrs, I'd have a backup ready just in case. I do give them 2-4years tops... Don't get me wrong they're fast but for me I'd wait for them to get better, the life in them is no good. Those predictor softwares don't work, its just a guesstimate they could fail tomorrow. Ssd's are built for speed but they're not build to last, you cannot fully rely on them as you could a HDD. I also know they can only be wrote to so many times and they fail. Predictors are known for having false readings... (Husband has a masters degree in computer engineering and IT.)
  19. I will add you later tonight and IM ya in game
  20. Honestly I'm glad you asked for a second opinion, my opinion is don't get it, It's not built for gaming... I would save up and shell out a few extra hundreds to get a PC that can actually run Second Life well. The i3 is like the lowest you can go, i5 is medium, and i7 is the best so far. As for the Ram 6GB is nowadays really on the lower end, a standard for now is 8, but you can of course get even more like upto 64 gigs plus. The hard drive space is meh honestly, again not big enough to hold a lot of games or much of anything else, I personally try not to go under a Terabyte. Basically you're looking at a notebook which is really good for just doing web browsing and light things like that. With the "3rd Gen Intel® Core™ i3-3120M processor" that's entry level, VERY basic it's like the lowest. If I were you I would aim for an i7 or get AMD. Really the main downfall is low end processors, graphic cards, and ram comes into play with speed, etc. You definitely need to mention when you're out and about looking to shop for a laptop/desktop that you're looking for a system that is built specifically for gaming. Gaming PC's are built totally different, they're built to be able to withstand games, as other lower end PC's are not able to usually run the newer games with higher end graphic requirements. With that laptop you may not crash, but you'd probably lag around so much it would just be a hassel... For me I usually try not to go under $800 for a laptop, and $1,000 for a tower... I know that's expensive but it's worth it as most PC's last 5 or more years and with good specs it's so worth it!
  21. Sadly Macs aren't really built the best for gaming, they can be good for music, movies, and light media, but that's about it...
  22. I'm actually looking into buying a house with land if that's possible? Could I even own land and a house while still being on basic membership (not premium). Also I am very curious as to what it would cost to own a home and land, like outright buy it? Thanks to anyone who replies or who have replied, I sincerly appreciate it!
  23. Let me ask you this first of all dear, are you using windows 7 with 32 bit or 64 bit? If you're using 32 bit your PC will literally only use 3 gigs of that ram, if you're running on win7 64 bit you could use the full amount of ram installed. Also I noticed you're using 9 gigs of ram, which is not even, as typically people use 4, 8, 16, 32, and 64 gigs of ram. Did you add that amount of ram in your PC? As your issue could be your PC isn't able to understand it because some PC'S have a maximum limit of ram that can be allotted.... And your graphics card if I'm not mistake seems older, so that also could be an issue, not to mention you're using an HP which is sadly the standard they're not really for gaming unless you get the HP Envy. Then again I'm not really a fan of any HP, they're kinda junk I recommend getting better, then again it could be worse it could be a Dell... You want to make sure any laptop or desktop is built specifically for gaming, any less wouldn't run second life honestly... Second Life has changed within the last few years, it's definitely a PC hog lol. The main thing it uses is good Internet (not dsl)! that's gonna make it terribly slow, decent ram around 8 gigs, and a good graphics card. Also you're gonna want to have a decent sized hard drive, usually if the hard drive runs out of space the PC will get slow and basically crap will hit the fan. I know PC'S can be expensive but it's worth shelling out for a PC built to last and built for gaming! I'm talking a PC with crystal clear graphics, all the way up on Ultra no lag and no hiccups! PC'S if kept cool can usually last a good 5 or more years... So please consider getting a nice gaming PC, may cost a tad more but you'll be in gamer heaven! You can usually get a good gaming tower, yes just the tower for $800. Buy a good tower and buy a screen separate is what I always do, trust me.... Please also look into Bitdefender or Kaspersky for your antivirus needs, Malwarebytes is like a last resort, it's not good it doesn't catch hardly anything. Also while I agree updating windows is always good but in a sense it can be bad, if your computer is on the lower end of specs updating could make it run even worse, it all depends... I recommend you don't get windows 8 running on your specs, it's best you stick to 7.... So updating the windows is probably more than likely not the issue.... Basically it boils down to you probably need a better Internet, not dsl, more ram, better graphics card, and make sure to have enough hard drive space... Sadly usually with laptops you can only add more memory... Second Life uses a lot of resources, so it's more than likely hardware issues, nothing to do with your windows or drivers... Even if you updated your windows or drivers, you'd still be using the same lol...
  24. Honestly I'd need to know more about your specs, how big is the HDD, how much Ram are you using, etc. I don't know your specs but usually those laptops well the one you're using isn't really built for gaming... I will say this, no you do not have to get a new desktop. You could get a good laptop to run second life just fine, of course you're going to need to get one for gaming. You're also going to want to make sure you look at the specs, because not all laptops are built for gaming. Also I'll add it's not fair to say that laptops can't handle games, trust me some can handle it way better than some PC'S it's all in the specs. The more Ram the better, of course an 8GB will do just fine and a good graphics card that can run any game is a must.
