A lot of us use these things as premiums for guests at clubs, and I can't see where they would fall afoul of these TOS changes. Still, a straight answer rather than "You have to figure it out yourself" and some boilerplate would be appreciated. Thank you! --VC the best you will get off LL is: submit your application and we will inform you: a) as described by you in your application this game does need a license and must be placed on a games region. b) as described by you in your application this game does not need a license. As such it can be played and can be placed on any sim c) as described by you in your application this game cannot be given a license and cannot be placed anywhere in world + the best you will get off anyone else is an opinion. Is my opinion that the board you are describing is b) + as a owner of some little club then to save the $100 application fee which is not refundable (seems like) then if was me I would leave my own board as described out in my club and I would put it thru the AR process in August. Meaning I would AR it myself, fully describing what the board does. If is in breach of policy then LL will take it down ETA: Befor AR myself then I make absolutely sure that I have correct PIOF on my account. Start ARing yourself without this gets complicated really fast

It is for me. I have windows 8.1 when this happens and try to relog back into the same sim then get the "requesting region settings" and nothing and hang. The fix for me is to relog into another sim. I usual relog into "Pooley" after getting this error. After successful login then can TP to the sim I was last on ok and is all good + not sure how to change DNS on mac. but I find that when my ISP-provided DNS is playing up (like lagging and timing me out) then I switch to Google 8.8.8.8 or 4.4.4.4 for a time. Then switch back to ISP when the storm passes
  3. the cool thing about the wall is that at dif places along the way some residents are kind enough to leave rez on for some time can rez your vehicle on their parcel and sit. then Edit lift it onto the top of wall or into the tunnel. and braaaaaammmm!!!! (: sim crossings are better in the tunnel than on top the wall if go fast. On top then neeeeerrrrrooowm !!! skyborn!! and sometimes get murdered by a orb or something when you eventually fall out the sky onto some random parcel (: or even better fall on top off a banline, vehicle stuck in the top. you stand and boing boing boing bouncing up and down on top. jejejeje (:

We get that it's a CYA exercise but the big question is, will YOU accept the creators legal council stated opinion from the OPERATOR given that the operator has no way whatsoever of knowing the innerds of the game. In other words, creator makes available their affidavit available to others to use as their sworn statement, will that work for you or do you insist that both parties incur expense when one can't even verify the claim? I've just had a thought. Maybe it's that LL need confirmation it's lawful for the Operator to run this game in his or her jurisdiction. That is, the sort of games someone in the UK can operate online without needing a licence from the UK authorities might not be the same as what someone in Mexico can operate online without needing a licence from the Mexican authorities, and LL is concerned to check that I'm not breaking the law by operating this particular game from where I live. That would make sense to me, but it's just unclear at the moment what exactly is needed. What we need, I think, is confirmation from LL whether they need an opinion from my solicitor that it's lawful for me to operate this game from the UK without needing a licence or simply a general opinion that this game, as described, is a game of skill and not of chance? yes. Is pretty much spot this In this case the Mexican Operator would have to provide a reasoned argument for why a British made game can be operated by them in SL in compliance with Mexico laws a Operator in a USA state would have to do the same, even with a game made in the USA as the Creators legal opinion maybe be based on the creators State law, which may be different from the intending buyer/operator + about how can I self-certify that a game made by another is legal in my own jurisdiction, if I cant see the source code as others already asking. I think if the game maker can provide a written description of how their game works and how it complies with their own state/country laws to the intending customers then is satisfactory/enough info on which to form/secure a considered opinion for ourselves if the game maker is unwilling to provide this info then nobody is going to buy their games if the game does not do what the info says it does after purchase then is in breach of the Policy and is ban material some game makers are going to balk at providing detailed written info on their games, but if they dont then the market will decide these decisions ultimately
  5. yes pretty much. the law of unintended consequences + just a thought on how you described cones if argue this in this way then can make a case that is not covered by gaming policy. So all good if LL accept this however. have maybe also successfully made the argument that the game contravenes the Camping Policy so win the Gaming Policy argument and lose the Camping Policy argument I played the cone game recently. I had to wait 6 minutes to get my payout at each cone station I went to. The parcel traffic counter kicks in at 3 minutes as I understand it for my dwell/traffic to count. So unless LL have changed this then murky + i think that the worst place anyone can put themselves is in a situation where they are on the edge of policy/law/rules/regs. is lots of scope to change dwell and chance games into skill games and I think the people who make these new types of games will do pretty good out of it + just as a personal preference if I do have to spend time waiting to get paid then I rather be given/asked to do something for my reward. I can spend hours grinding these kinda games to get loot

It would be good if LL made a clear statement on this point, by it's self it should be a clear back and white case, but if you have to first buy a hud or some thing would that change things? is pretty tricky this one. Would need to get a RL legal opinion on it the argument tho basically goes: I own a network of resident Free To Play games. The outcomes of these games is determined purely by chance. Venue owners who participate in the network pay me a fee to be part of the network the legal argument then is: is indisputable that I (the network owner) am operating a game of chance. Entry into which is by payment the resident players are not paying a fee to play. The venue owners are paying it on the residents behalf a Court Judge will ask the question: How does this differ from someone else buying a raffle ticket for me? Is still a raffle, no matter who buys the ticket, isnt it? so to answer this question then will need more than: I dont think is the same thing Your Honour Judge will then ask me to please explain why I dont think so the point the judge will want me (the network owner) to address in my argument is: whether or not I (the network owner)require a gaming license to operate the network + with a grid hunt where get clues and have to work it out to find the prize then is not dependent on chance. Is a game of skill. So agree about that a trivia game is also a game of skill. Have to know or find out the correct answer to get the prize + with games like cones then it gets murky and I think have to be careful about how these games are constructed. Like if are just getting random sent to dif grid locations by the operator, wait a time, and then get paid. Then I think it will fall under the first example I gave to fix this so is compliant then the inventor/operator can change what the resident player has to do to collect the prize. For example can ask the player to solve a puzzle, like correct answer a triva question, etc

We just need to participate in the law changing process to effect the changes we want. if we dont then others do and they get the changes they want

  9. Phil Deakins wrote: There is a popular table game called Greedy Greedy. It's usually played for free and without any prize of any kind. But it includes the option of pay-to-play and of giving a L$ prize. The game involves clicking to roll 6 dice. The result of the roll is down to chance. Trying to mount up point, players select which dice to keepand whether or not to roll again. If they get too grredy and continue to roll the dice too many times, they'll not add any points, or even lose the points they have. That's a very general idea of the game. Rolling the dice is the significant chance part, while deciding which dice to select and whether or not to continue rolling needs thought. My question is this: Will that game be allowed to be played for free and without prizes, without it needing to be in a Skill Gaming region? Or will the fact that it can be set to pay-to-play and give cash prizes, even though it isn't being used that way, mean that it can't be used in a non-Skill Gaming region. I.e. will the fact that it CAN be used with money void it from being used without money in non-Skill Gaming Regions? i think that the inventors will start offering 2 versions of games. Pay to play version. And No pay to play version. Is less hassle for them in terms of licensing. Is less hassle for venue owners and resident customers as well + just on games like greedygreedy i think the key part of the policy is in the Defined Terms “Skill Game” or “Skill Gaming” shall mean a game, implemented through an Inworld object: 1) whose outcome is determined by skill and is not contingent, in whole or in material part, upon chance; the inventor of a game has to show that the outcome is not materially affected by chance. The onus is on the inventor. If they cannot then no license with greedygreedy then can show that like in poker a good player will over the long run beat a lesser player most times. However a lesser player can beat a good player by getting lucky. In this case the outcome is materially affected by chance Poker tournaments are pretty good examples of this. When a good player gets knocked out then they sigh: Variance baby!! What can you do? or as Phil Hellmuth (the best Texas Holdem tournament player in the modern era) says: Honey! if it wasnt for luck I would win every tournament so l think will be difficult for a Pay to Play version of a game like greedygreedy to get a skills game license

  13. am pretty sure that the largest number of people with the same last name by choice was Gossipgirl named after the TV show. Was 1000s and 1000s of new residents running round with that name at the time + is quite interesting what effect TV has like was this doco on SL shown on TV where I live a while ago now. Was about some mad RL couple who was cheating on each other in SL while sitting next to each in the same room RL lol. Lies drama jealousy and my cheateree is way better than your cheateree. Altho am not sure how the lying went given they could see each others screens RL. but plenty of drama (: anyways. In the days after it showed the WAs were inundated with new residents from my country going where all the hunky guys and beautiful ladies at. Imma wan get me some dat. Moose Beach WA in particular seemed to be the WA they was getting routed into. Was worse than Auckland Airport (: all chattering about the TV show and where I go to get it. I said kia ora more times to others in those few weeks than all other time in SL put together
  14. i just like to add what I think is really important and acknowledges some Universal Truths on partnering all male avatars are forced to upgrade to Premium. And the stipend go to their partner automagically every week. And the 512m tiers as well one Universal Truth being: What is mine is mine. and what is yours is mine also Isnt that right Dear?!? umm! aaah! Yes Dear see! look !!! even he agree this is the way it is and always is. And he likes it + and he dont need or even want money to buy new shoes or clothes or anything . He already got shoes and a shirt and coat that he inherit off his Dad. Which belong to his Granddad before him. And he never takes them off ever anyways + have to take the tiers off him as well. Or he just end up waste it. Like on a garage for a car he never finish building is way better to spend the tiers on a doghouse. bc need to send him to the doghouse sometimes. When he do end up in the doghouse then he done something to deserve it. every . single . time like wonder out loud how come I need another pair of shoes that seem to him to be the same as the pair I get last week they not the same Dear ok. These are new another Universal truth
  15. Perrie Juran wrote: LaskyaClaren wrote: Careful segregation of content is definitely a good thing, because it enables choice by the user. My first real exposure to Dolcet in Second Life happened in the pre-Zindra days, before the "Adult" classification was created. I was exploring a nude beach with a rating of "Mature." It was just a nude beach -- there were no sex pose balls or anything of that type -- but it directly abutted a Dolcet sim, owned by the same person. Right on the border of the Dolcet sim, mere feet from the nude beach was an extremely graphic and violent Dolcet machine, and there were others within easy viewing of the beach. I was appalled -- and still am, in fact -- that a visitor seeking nothing more than a nude beach sim could be exposed so casually and inadvertently to that kind of representation of sexual violence and graphic dismemberment. The thing is . . . exactly the same thing as what I've just described could still happen in Second Life, because nude beaches and Dolcet sims (or rape sims, or whatever) still fall under the same rating. When the Adult rating was created, I argued that it was too broad, and that a distinction needed to be made between violence and sexuality. Unfortunately, I think, North Americans in particular tend to be more horrified by sexuality than by violence, so that particular plea fell on deaf ears. "The thing is . . . exactly the same thing as what I've just described could still happen in Second Life, because nude beaches and Dolcet sims (or rape sims, or whatever) still fall under the same rating. " Actually I think you are (partially) wrong here. A nude beach (nudist) with no adult activity can be rated Moderate. But many do set nudist beaches with no other activity as "Adult." But that is not required. Dolcet, etc is Adult. But then you get into a possibly grey area on Moderate land with Dolcet if people are complying with the "Behind Closed Doors" policy in the Adult Content Policy. i just add on here. bc it address what Laskya is mentioning and you also + i think where it gets complicated is when we put to fine a grading on things. The practical answer to this in the RL is classification by type. And then bc we all got our own views on how/why different kinds/types of content should/can be classified then we delegate this task to an appointed group of people. Put some laws round this. Not only on content but also the processes the appointees must follow. and also an appeals process for the creators who might feel that their content has been classified more narrowly than they believe is warranted am not sure that in a private-owned VW that is desirable to go down this road to this degree I think that with SL is pretty much right. Right meaning manageable. Is some broad classifications/standards/groupings of content. And people are expected to use their mentals/commonsense and not be dickheads about it basically people get banned from SL for being dickheads + even nudity on G sims. by example if use our commonsense (and LL enforcers use theirs as well when investigating these matters) then is not inappropriate in our own G rated home to get nekkid in all cases like if get some demo skins. The place most appropriate to check them out is our own SL home. Pull down the blinds (parcel visibility) and we good nobody ever gets banned for doing this in G. And nor should they be just bc: No Nekkie however if run round in public on G wearing a demo skins nekkid then the person is being a dickhead if dont have any home of our own and jump on the posestand (or go in a changing room) in a skin shop and that skin shop is on a G sim and get nekkid trying on the demoes then by the law of commonsense we behaving appropriately If get off the posestand (or leave the changing room) and run round the shop nekkid in a demo then the person is being a dickhead maybe not get banned by LL from SL for running round nekkid in a skin shop but keep it up and the sim owner will ban them from the sim. When go waaah!!! then sim owner goes: I not ban you by the Law of Eminent Sim Domain ok. I ban you by the Law of Dickheads + cant make a rule that all skin shops cannot be on G sims. bc under 18s need/want to buy skins also. Which they wont be able to do if is no skin shops on G. Or if is no G rating available to skin makers on MP + can take Laskya's point about Violence tho i think the question is: Is it necessary for under 18s to be exposed to violence? Not whether is desirable/undesirable or even a question of choice or maturity or freedom even on their part. But simply: Is it necessary? the commonsense answer to this is: No. Is not necesary. Being exposed to violence as a child or underage young person is not necessary. Not in a modern civilised society which is what we have in the RL (most of us anyways) for Adults then is a different question: Is it necessary for a adult to be informed about the content prior to them accessing it? In this case the commonsense answer to this is: Yes. It is necessary So I agree with Laskya's general point A (adult classification) can be segmented broadly into 2 camps. A meaning all general Adult behaviours. AV meaning Adult with Graphic Violence so. G. A. AV the distinction between G and A is quite clear. This clearly seperates Adult-specific behaviours from General behaviours for all. The distinction between A and AV helps the adults to make prior determinations about where they go and the Law of Commonsense and the Law of Dickheads still applies basically with G A AV instead of G M A we have narrowed the segmentation in a more commonsense and practical way. Without introducing any more or less restrictions on Adults. The effective new restriction is on RL children and underage young persons engaging in violence or being exposed to adult sexual behaviours on the platform

This being better for the users (the automagic fitting without tweak and hacks like alphas) and better for the creators who have a fixed range of shapes they have to design/create for like SL but simpler Why? The problem with clothing was that LL never implemented morphs. Because of this, LL had to find a way to make things kind of work. If the new world uses FBX with morphs included, then a clothing creator would just make morphs to fit any shape possible. With morphs, every Avatar, even custom Avatars, would be able to be even more customizable than the SL avatar could ever be. Heck, you could make a morph that turns some1 into a frog. Better tech brings even more wonderous possibilities. i just answer a very similar question over the street i put the question asked first. then my answer + question: "It's actually super easy to make rigged mesh attachments automatically fit to a customizeable avatar mesh. Game developers have been doing it for like a decade now. There is absolutely no reason to make the avatars in a new SL less customizeable. None." + answer: is two parts to this the first is the problem of how to get a topological surface to conform to another topological surface in real time without bleed for all surfaces. If this was easy to do then Qarl (and others before him who have considered this problem) would have solved it already the second is what you mention. That games makers have fitted mesh for years to custom rigs. Which is true. Is not the same problem tho. the second is bounded. The first is not to solve the first problem you have to bound it. So that all topological surfaces within the bounds conform in real time without bleed. Which is how is solved for the second part by the game makers you have to determine what those bounds are. Is not all surfaces. Is no known solution for all surfaces. If this was solved for all surfaces then it will also proof that P is in NP or proof that is not. Either way will be the most significant discovery in the field of computer science ever. And the ramifications of it will be huge. Like for example: every encryption system ever invented will be broken immediately + it maybe that the bounds determined for the betterworld are less than those available than in SL now. It maybe more. There will be bounds tho. And I think that will be less optionally within the bounds this dont negate what you suggesting/wanting. Custom rigs. I think we will get them. People will be able to make own avatars of all kinds custom rigged. and create outfits for those custom rigs. In far more ways than is possible now. But there will be bounds to those also better (meaning more choice) but simpler (meaning what those choices can optionally do within their own bounds) + about bounded the SL avatar is bounded. What the creators can make in SL at this time is unbounded. Bounded + unbounded = unbounded. 24. over the street way down in the chat Wolkenreiter said something really insightful up until now much of my own thinking and lots of others thinking was: How can you make a betterworld that does everything that SL does now but better. And also how to do all of the things SL cant do now but can do in the Betterworld, but Better also then Wolkenreiter gave an example: maybe in the betterworld the avatar is graphically better (speed wise) and artistically better in terms of looks and also better operationally and modally. So the avatar runs/renders as well on a tablet as it do on a PC. The LoD of the mesh adapting dynamically to the device. This being better for a larger number of users overall, than just for the number who make up the creator class who will still need a PC to make stuff on a avatar that has less options in determing shape than we get in SL now. Less options so that fitted mesh clothes fit perfectly automagically every time for the greatest number of users. This being better for the users (the automagic fitting without tweak and hacks like alphas) and better for the creators who have a fixed range of shapes they have to design/create for like SL but simpler + much of what you have written in your last post concur with this: like SL but simpler. Is better bc is simpler i like it. I get it now what LL are wanting to. I get it now what they mean when they say better maybe LL arent as good workflow designers as Apple and maybe never will be. But then neither were Samsung once. So i think is a fighting chance for LL. and I dont think they need be intimidated by deep pockets FB or the crazy genius of Uncle Philip and the even more crazy people with bubbles and goggles pasted on their heads do a Samsung like SL but simpler. in the delivery to the most number of people and more affordable. Which is better
