  1. In 2.0? I'm pretty sure CTRL+T was still there in 2.0, at least it works in firestorm. So question is, is it a customization by the firestorm team, and if, why the heck would LL remove this shortcut? I'm pretty sure that the experienced users using shortcuts use this one VERY frequently to open/close the tabs, while the toolbar is customized maybe once, definitely not in big need of a shortcut.

  3. I really don't think this is about graphics and a portable SL client. This will be about communication with friends, marketplace, the whole social thing that LL is trying to force upon the users since viewer 2.
  4. V3 is bugged in the way that CTRL+T doesn't bring yours IMs back. Well, I HOPE it is a bug. I usually have my friends list (CTRL+SHIFT+F) bound to my Capslock-key using Autohotkey, and together with CTRL+T it's a very comfy way to handle conversations.
  5. You cannot compare the FPS between viewers this easily. Just for example, Firestorm has way higher LOD settings than Phoenix has. I don't know about other details, but this example is evident. Another issue is that you have to take care that the same amount of people are in your FOV, that your state of graphics loading is the same, and so on.
  6. As long as 3 icons flash due to one and the same incoming event, or the search window taking 3 seconds to load EACH TIME, I refuse to use words like "improvement" or "usability" in the context of viewer 2+.
  7. Don't buy a graphics card only for shadows' sake and if you're not a photographer who switches that setting on only occasionally. Using maximum settings it will lag no matter how fast your computer is.
  8. I share the opinion that the overall problem of usability isn't helped by only making those buttons movable. If someone responsible for usability just could give an explanation why the status icons for conversations and notifications had been placed at the bottom right and nowadays at the top right! If the main SL population were arabic, then I could understand it. But it is not. Those are vital functions, I'm experiencing it each time I'm kicked out of SL because I not notice the small number on the small notifications icon saying that the region is restarting. Just an exmaple. Many people still have the local chat at the bottom left because they're used to it. We also got the menu at the top left. For everyone not living in arabic countries it's also logical to place the IM tabs on the top left. In any case we have the left side covered by our attention, so why are those flashing icons placed on the right?! But those icons are an issue alone: Assuming I've got the IM tabs open, if there's an incoming IM then - the window in the IM bar will flash - the single chat icon will show the bubble - the conversations icon will change. That's informing me 3 times about the same event. Flooding the user with information more than neccessary. I don't wanna get started with group notices and such.
  9. Look how fast people's profiles load in contrast to the standard viewer. I wish the firestorm team would do the same to the search.

This comparision doesn't work here as you got a constant frame rate in movies. When SL tells you 22 fps, it is the average rate which means that you'll get sometimes 40 fps but, what's important here, sometimes only 10 fps. That's why you usually need about 40 fps (guessed), being an indication that your card is strong enough to not let 10 fps downtimes happen. You can press ctrl+shift+1 to see what I mean.
  11. I'll be switching back to Viewer 1.3, mainly because of the search. Main reason: responsiveness. It takes 2.5 seconds, every time, for the search screen to load. This is totally inacceptable for me.
  12. Hello LoveAngeL, thank you for the links. I've just tried the Search Project Viewer but sadly all my listed problems remain. About the notifications: I'm on a 30" screen and that's why it might hit me especially hard. What adds to the notification problem in my eyes is that the active notification (when you click one) is not highlighted in the list and neither do group notifications have the group name in the title unless you click them. Then I don't understand why the conversations are listed twice there. On the left they're listed one by one, then there's a button for the same list of conversations. There is so much (party redundant and incomplete) information down there in the very corner (I agree that you will notice a popup if you look at the screen at that moment), at a very wrong place in my opinion, because - naturally we dedicate most attention to the top left quarter of the screen - my attention is drawn almost all the time to the bottom left because of the open chat - if not it's drawn to the upper window because of my IMs Of course I can only speak for myself and maybe people with a 21" screen don't suffer from this, but I don't think it's generally good if the user have to look from one corner to the other all around the screen all the time.
  13. Hello, I've been using Viewer 2 for two weeks now and it still gives me headaches. - Search 1) I just cannot understand why the search is suddenly loaded like a website. Sure it's apparently "cool" to make everything website-accessible-like, but dang, it takes me 2.5 seconds to just get the starting screen of the search. There is no fun in using it anymore, it's rather very annoying and I don't go out expoloring as much as I did before. 2) When I search for "Places", a few minutes later the dropdown box shows "Everything" as selected element again. In addition it takes you 2 clicks now to select a category. I just cannot see the usability in this. 3) The result list makes me feel totally lost. It's hard to get an orientation and I guess it's because a) the traffic numbers are missing and b) each result has 2 lines now, making you scroll more. 4) The additional info to each search result shows up within the list. Making you scroll even more! - Notifications and such I assume that most people, when they are with other people, camera focus on their heads. This is a reasonable assumption. But this means that they want to see everything below. This means they likely put their IM windows to the top, which again means that the most attention is put into the upper half or the bottom left quarter (because of the local chat window). Now could please anyone tell me why things like notifications and everything has been placed at the bottom right? Seriously I believe that's the spot everyone notices last. If there has been a lot of user research that proved me wrong, I'm sorry, but in my opinion this is just a usabilty disaster, especially for people with large screens. Well two things that make using SL less fun for me, that much that I felt the need to express myself in the forums.
  14. Hi Torley, thanks for your quick reply :matte-motes-smile: Indeed I can confirm that Kirstens Viewer isn't affected by the problems that I experienced earlier. The shadows-option seems to be stable, not disappearing anymore when I click or teleport. I like it a lot, together with the Depth of Field (The Global Illumination still doesn't seem to work on any viewer for me, it's like either totally dark or milky, depending on ambient occlusion switched on or off.)
  15. Hello, I've got a problem that occurs to me in Viewer 2 and Viewer 2 Beta. When I enable "Lightning and Shadows" or "Lightning and Shadows" and "Global Illumination" together, it works well, until I click either the options' OK-button again, or press the snapshot-button, or teleport. After this, everything turns a lil darker, the shadows are gone but the Depth of Field, for example, is still there. When I cam very close onto myself, sometimes a kinda spotlight appears around myself and the shadows of myself are back. I've got Antialiasing disalbed and am using a 580GTX. Does anyone have an idea what could solve this problem?
